New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP
Chapter 174: Mr. Eyes Legacy
Chapter 174: Mr. Eye's Legacy
The frozen wave Yu Xian had pierced in the distance stood nearly five meters high and was over fifty meters thick. Anyone who had seen Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" could roughly imagine its shape. [1]
As everyone knew, the lower the temperature, the harder the ice. Since Yu Xian had directly extracted the heat from the ocean, the ice he created was extraordinarily hard, harder than even steel. That was also why the ice had not suffered particularly severe damage during the spar between Yu Xian and Xiong Da.
In fact, Xiong Da had already noticed the ice's abnormal hardness the moment he stepped onto it. Thus, he understood perfectly well just how terrifying Yu Xian's air bullet had been. He even suspected that Yu Xian somehow possessed a pair of superalloy lungs.
Yu Xian smiled and beckoned to him. "Come on, let's continue!"
However, Xiong Da had lost his nerve. He raised his hands and quietly said, "Boss, why don't I just surrender? I've already used my ultimate move. There's no point in continuing."
Yu Xian was helpless. He had just finished warming up and did not want the spar to end so soon. "How about this? I won't use any more ranged attacks. Will that do?"
Xiong Da knew that refusing again would be rude, so he reluctantly nodded. "All right, then. Let's... continue!"
He immediately grabbed a chunk of ice from the ground and hurled it at Yu Xian. However, Yu Xian had anticipated this. With a slight tilt of his head, he easily avoided the projectile.
Yu Xian then charged toward Xiong Da, while Xiong Da tried to widen the distance between them. A chase immediately began across the frozen sea.
As Xiong Da ran, he repeatedly waved his paw at the pursuing Yu Xian. This time, he finally unleashed his Black Wind. No mortal flesh and blood could withstand such a gale. Moreover, because of its demonic nature, trails of black smoke swirling within the wind were clearly visible to the naked eye.
Yu Xian had devised an extremely simple way to deal with it. He kicked the ice and cleverly applied just enough force to pry a massive slab free from the frozen surface.
Then, hoisting the slab onto his shoulder, he charged forward and used the tremendous momentum to smash straight through Xiong Da's Black Wind. This was what it meant to overcome all techniques with overwhelming force.
Xiong Da had never imagined that his Black Wind could be countered in such a manner, and his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. By the time he realized that the ability had become useless against Yu Xian, Yu Xian was already bearing down on him with the slab of ice.
"Holy crap!" Xiong Da cried out as the ice slammed directly into his face.
The instant the slab shattered, Yu Xian jumped out from behind it and drove a kick into Xiong Da's abdomen.
Xiong Da instinctively doubled over and clutched his stomach as he slid backward across the ice. It hurts! Agonizing, gut-wrenching pain.
However, Yu Xian sprinted after him, caught up, and landed an uppercut squarely beneath his chin. The fat covering Xiong Da's body rippled violently. His enormous frame toppled backward and crashed heavily onto the ice. Countless cracks spread across the frozen surface, while Xiong Da's head rang from the impact.
Xiong Da was competitive too. If they were not going to fight, that was fine, but once the fight began, he wanted to win. Although his head was still spinning, he knew he had to move.
Acting purely on instinct, he rolled to the right. Sure enough, Yu Xian came crashing down from above the next instant, driving one foot into the spot where Xiong Da had just been lying. The ice exploded, sending countless shards flying in every direction.
Knowing that Yu Xian was to his left, Xiong Da immediately raised his left paw and swept it outward. "Black Wind!"
Black Wind surged across the ice beside him.
"No sound?" As Xiong Da recovered from his daze, he opened his eyes and looked to the left. The Black Wind had swept far into the distance, but Yu Xian was nowhere to be seen. He immediately looked ahead. Sure enough, Yu Xian was already standing directly in front of him, the muscles of his right arm bulging to an exaggerated degree.
"Boss, I surrender!" Xiong Da hurriedly shouted.
Yu Xian smiled. "Too late. Back you go!"
With that, he threw a punch. Xiong Da screamed as he went sliding all the way back. His head eventually struck the beach, and his eyes rolled back as he lost consciousness.
Yu Xian stretched his limbs and felt completely refreshed from head to toe. "That felt great!"
He really did need to exercise more often. Although mutated Blood Energy and his other abilities were extremely convenient, nothing compared to the exhilaration of a close-quarters fight where every blow landed solidly.
He slowly walked back toward the beach, where Zhang Shou had already finished treating Xiong Da. Xiong Da's injuries were minor. Even without treatment, he would have fully recovered by the next day. However, Zhang Shou felt that since he was already there, there was no reason to let anyone's injuries linger until the following day.
When Gong Qian saw Yu Xian return, she eagerly asked, "Salted Fish, is it my turn now?"
She was curious about the true extent of Yu Xian's strength. After all, she had always ranked first among Qilin's younger generation, yet her accomplishments fell far short of his.
When the media extensively dug into Yu Xian's past, they had brought all his previous achievements into the public eye: saving Silver City, subduing the Supreme Martial Zombie King, discovering the Perfect Lifeform factory hidden within Silver City... It had been one dazzling achievement after another.
This had ignited Gong Qian's competitive spirit. She now wanted to accomplish something significant as well. Of course, she first needed to understand exactly where she fell short compared with Yu Xian.
Yu Xian sat down in his lounge chair and smiled. "Give me a moment. We can begin once I've had some rest."
Gong Qian agreed with repeated nods. "Right, of course. Rest properly, and we'll spar once you've fully recovered."
She wanted to spar with Yu Xian while he was at his best. He had just finished fighting Xiong Da, so his condition had probably declined somewhat. Naturally, she had to let him rest first.
Only after Gong Qian sat down again did Yu Xian say, "Auntie, check whether the impurities inside me have decreased."
"See for yourself." Eternal Purity tapped Yu Xian between the eyebrows.
Yu Xian examined himself. After a moment, he frowned. The impurities were almost completely unchanged. Evidently, the spar just now had done nothing for him.
After pondering it for a moment, he asked, "Auntie, is there any way for me to learn the ability to see impurities?"
If he could observe the impurities within his body in real time, he would receive immediate feedback during battle and determine the proper direction for his training. At present, he still needed Eternal Purity's help whenever he wanted to examine the impurities within his abilities. It was far too inconvenient.
Eternal Purity smiled. "You cannot learn my method. However, I do possess a legacy that can grant you this ability. The problem is that inheriting it may bring deadly peril upon you in the future."
Deadly peril?
Yu Xian gulped. If Eternal Purity described it that way, it was probably extremely dangerous.
After hesitating for a moment, he said, "Auntie, why don't you explain it first? I'll decide whether to learn it after hearing everything."
Eternal Purity explained, "Many cultivation methods have been passed down from ancient times within the Tree Universe. Unfortunately, most of them are now incomplete, though a few legacies have survived intact. The most famous among them are the Five Supreme Legacies. They consist of five separate inheritances: Mr. Eye, Mr. Hand, Mr. Foot, Mr. Key, and Mr. Strange.
"By a fortunate coincidence, I obtained Mr. Eye's Legacy. It's a legacy devoted to cultivating the eyes. Its inheritor must also collect all manner of eyes, hoping that one day, they may use countless eyes as steps to cultivate the Omniscience Eye and become an all-knowing existence."
Yu Xian's interest was immediately piqued. "Can this legacy really make someone omniscient?"
"In theory, yes, but accomplishing it in practice is extraordinarily difficult. The legacy requires you to collect the eyes of every creature that possesses them, along with every kind of special eye. There are countless varieties of eyes throughout the Tree Universe. Even I would find it difficult to gather them all."
Yu Xian immediately understood. "Auntie, the deadly peril you mentioned must come from other inheritors of Mr. Eye's legacy, right?"
Eternal Purity nodded. "Correct. Once you have collected a certain number of eyes, other inheritors of Mr. Eye's legacy may decide to take a shortcut and come after you. As long as they kill you, all the eyes you gathered will naturally become theirs."
Yu Xian smiled. "Auntie, I'll take this legacy."
His reasoning was simple. All he wanted was the ability to see the impurities within his body. As for attacks from other inheritors, he could simply refrain from collecting eyes. It was not as though all sorts of eyes would come knocking on his door by themselves.
1. The Great Wave off Kanagawa is a world-famous woodblock print created around 1831 by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. It is arguably the most recognizable piece of Japanese art in the world. ☜
