Chapter 1391: The Sky Opened Fire

Ethan’s confusion vanished.

That light wasn’t natural.

And it definitely wasn’t the sun.

"That’s their weapon! It’s charging!"

He immediately turned to the others.

"Get ready to meet it!"

Before he could finish, Andona spread her golden wings and flew straight through Seraphine’s shield.

Meeting the attack didn’t mean standing there and taking it.

Some of them stayed behind to set up defenses, while the others charged forward, hoping to reach the enemy before it could fire.

Elira unfurled her Divine Sovereign Moth wings and followed Andona upward. Phoenix Queen Ignara rose after them. The three of them passed through the clouds Seraphina had blown apart and headed straight for the mechanical pyramid in the stratosphere.

Above them, the red light contracted one final time.

A massive red laser erupted from the bottom of the mechanical pyramid.

The beam punched through the clouds in a straight line toward Seraphina. Heat and pressure arrived ahead of it, sweeping aside the surrounding mist and carving a clear path through the sky.

Seraphine thrust both hands forward.

The first shield spread above the dragon. A second barrier quickly formed beneath it.

The red laser slammed into the shields head-on.

Boom!

The point of impact became too bright to look at.

Blazing energy spread across the shield’s surface, forming a red ring that expanded without stopping. The outer barrier showed no visible damage, but violent tremors traveled through it, forcing Seraphine’s arms to bend slowly under the pressure.

Her expression grew grave.

If she hadn’t been cautious enough to add a second layer beforehand, the laser would have punched straight through the first.

And if the beam struck Seraphina directly, it might not kill her on the spot, but it would leave her dragon body severely wounded.

Andona, Elira, and Phoenix Queen Ignara had already reached the stratosphere, but they were facing problems of their own.

A red dot appeared on Andona’s chest.

A second and third followed, locking onto Elira and Phoenix Queen Ignara. After a brief silence, countless red dots lit up across the mechanical pyramid, covering the three women’s heads, chests, wings, and limbs.

Each marker came from a separate weapon port.

Andona had already raised a pale golden shield, but she didn’t relax. More targeting points continued to appear as gun barrels and laser cannons rotated along the pyramid’s exterior, gradually taking aim at them.

Waiting would only surrender the initiative.

Andona extended her golden blade beyond the shield.

Divine Power flowed along its edge, forming phantom golden blades around the barrier. She intended to destroy the pyramid’s weapons first, but the enemy gave her no time to finish charging her attack.

Inside the mechanical pyramid, Ferrick stood in the center of the control room.

His left eye opened wide, and a mechanical eye extended from the socket. Tiny gears turned inside it as a red beam swept across the screen ahead, recording every fluctuation in the energy surrounding Andona, Elira, and Phoenix Queen Ignara.

The readings kept climbing.

Ferrick raised his mechanical arm at once and pointed toward Korrick.

"Energy fluctuations detected!"

His metal fingers closed into a fist.

"Open fire!"

At the command, mechanical components unfolded from Korrick’s back and limbs, completely enclosing his body. Layers of outer armor closed around him one after another, forming an oval mechanical pod that hovered in front of the console.

An energy display lit up before him.

Three three-dimensional models appeared at its center: Andona, Elira, and Phoenix Queen Ignara. Colored lines marked the paths of energy flowing through their bodies.

Korrick’s voice came from inside the pod.

"Activating energy suppression..."

Down in the troposphere, Ethan slowly raised his head.

With the clouds out of the way, the mechanical pyramid’s full outline was finally visible. Its enormous base blocked out a vast section of the sky. Flying beneath it, even Seraphina looked no larger than a slightly oversized lion.

The others were already moving. Ethan didn’t need to say another word.

White energy spread from his back and formed a pair of lightning wings. Violent energy gathered rapidly in Kaelira’s hands. She hurled an energy sphere into the sky, then spread her own wings.

Seraphina carried everyone else toward Andona’s position.

Standing at the center of the dragon’s back, Seraphine poured more power into the shields. The two barriers deepened in color, and every crack across their surfaces sealed shut.

Then an invisible pulse spread outward from the mechanical pyramid.

It reached Andona first.

The phantom blades she had just formed flickered violently, several dissolving into motes of golden light. Elira’s Divine Sovereign Moth wings sank as the runes across them grew dim. The energy surrounding Phoenix Queen Ignara was suppressed as well, its intensity falling rapidly.

The three of them quickly realized what was happening.

Their power was being restricted.

The shields that had been protecting them were now their final line of defense.

Once Korrick confirmed that the energy suppression was working, he activated every weapon.

Flashes of fire erupted across the mechanical pyramid’s exterior.

Machine-gun rounds formed a dense barrage around Andona and the others, closing in from multiple angles. Laser cannons fired immediately afterward, sending beams through the gaps in the bullet storm to bombard the golden shield.

Bullets struck the barrier with an unbroken series of metallic explosions. Lasers left bright red points across its surface, each impact driving more pressure inward.

As Seraphina, Ethan, and the others drew closer, another group of weapons on the pyramid turned toward them.

More bullets and lasers rained down from above.

A defensive beam also lit up beneath the mechanical pyramid, targeting the energy sphere Kaelira had thrown earlier. A thick laser fired from the base and struck the sphere in midair.

The beam pierced straight through it.

The violent energy inside lost its stability and exploded. The blast swept away the nearby clouds as red light and a mix of other colors illuminated the sky.

Ethan beat his white wings and accelerated.

But the moment he entered the area around Andona, the energy inside him was suppressed as well. His once-active white lightning grew sluggish, and several gaps appeared along the edges of his wings.

Seraphina didn’t slow down.

She had two layers of protection.

Her hard dragon scales formed the outer layer, while Seraphine’s constantly reinforced shield protected her from within. Her enormous wings repeatedly swept aside the barrage in her path as she forced her way through the lasers toward Andona.

They were close enough now.

But Ethan stopped.

Kaelira also broke away instead of continuing to follow Seraphina. She and Ethan split off in opposite directions, stopping near the edge of the energy-suppression field.

Seraphina roared past Ethan and continued toward the three women under attack.

Kaelira raised both hands.

Streams of energy shot from her fingertips and condensed into spheres of varying sizes in front of her. Instead of attacking immediately, the spheres arranged themselves at different distances, gradually forming an interconnected array.

Ethan flew to the opposite side.

White lightning rose from his palm into the sky.

The clear blue overhead quickly darkened. Clouds converged from every direction and pressed together as continuous thunder rumbled within them.
