Chapter 432: Chapter 425: Is It Intentional?
She stood up again, then took her suitcase out from under the bed. She opened the suitcase and pulled out all her belongings. She took her toothbrush and other toiletries to the bathroom. She hung up the towels and neatly arranged her clothes in the wardrobe. She also put the books she had brought on a reachable spot in the wardrobe, then tucked her suitcase back under the bed.
She clapped her hands upon finishing, signifying that she was done.
She took out her mobile phone, found Gu Ning’s number, and started to type a message. She failed to notice the faint smile that pulled at the corners of her mouth.
“Uncle Gu, I’ll treat you to dinner someday to thank you for the quilt.”
Soon, her phone buzzed with a reply from Gu Ning.
“Okay,” came the simple reply, lacking any tinge of superfluousness. It was just like Gu Ning’s character.
Tang Yuxin put down her phone and sat down at the desk. She grabbed a book to read, to pass the time. In this era, without the overwhelming influx of digital information, a book or a TV show were their only means of entertainment. However, she didn’t have a TV right now.
“Knock knock…”
Soon, there was a knock at the door.
Tang Yuxin put down her book, walked over, and opened the door.
“Yuxin, we’re going to dinner,” Li Jia put her arm around Tang Yuxin’s shoulder, “Let’s go.”
“Sure,” Tang Yuxin took out a card from her bag, which was the hospital’s meal card.
“I’ll treat you,” she waved the meal card in her hand.
“Where did you get a meal card?” Li Jia snatched the meal card from Tang Yuxin’s hand. It was indeed the hospital’s. She noticed it earlier at lunch. However, they were not eligible for a meal card until they formally began their internship.
“My uncle gave it to me.”
Yes, her Uncle Gu.
“Let’s go,” Tang Yuxin had already closed the door. However, three people were standing outside, and Wei Jiani was missing. She didn’t ask any further questions, but Li Jia could never keep a secret.
She’s still waiting for someone to send her a quilt, not knowing if it will come at all. It’s better to count on oneself than others. We’re all sleeping on soft and clean quilts, while she’s still lying on the bare bed board. Besides, the day is almost over, maybe the person isn’t coming anymore.
Tang Yuxin didn’t know, but whether that person came or not was Wei Jiani’s business, and she had nothing to do with it. She took the others to the hospital cafeteria. In addition to the doctors from the hospital, there were also soldiers from the nearby army base. Hence, the cafeteria offered a variety of dishes, and they were not too expensive due to the hospital’s subsidies. Even if they ate their fill, it wasn’t going to break the bank.
Tang Yuxin ordered a few dishes and ate with Li Jia and the others. Li Jia wasn’t shy at all, but the other two, who weren’t familiar with Tang Yuxin, felt a bit embarrassed. It wasn’t an ideal situation to have someone else pay for the meal on the first occasion.
However, the first meeting tends to be a bit awkward, and it will get better the second time around.
They can familiarize themselves in due course.
After they filled their bellies and were about to leave, the hospital notified them that their uniforms were ready to be picked up. The notification was sent to Tang Yuxin’s phone. They wondered why they were being notified again. Wasn’t there a notification during noon? But Tang Yuxin didn’t receive any such notification, nor did anyone call her, she was sure of it. There was a record of calls in her phone, and this number was unfamiliar, so no one had called her.
By the time they went to collect their uniforms, the staff who was distributing the uniforms gave them an extra look and spoke with a bit of irritation.
“Why are you only coming now?”
“We just found out,” Li Jia said in a low voice. They really weren’t lying, they didn’t know until now, and it was not deliberate on their part that they hadn’t picked up the uniforms yet.
“Just found out now?” The person distributing the uniforms looked at them for a while, “An intern came over at noon, and I asked her to notify you all. Didn’t she tell you?”
Upon hearing this, the others were immediately flushed with indignation.
Was there any need to ask? Could it be anyone other than Wei Jiani who was so shameless?
Why didn’t she tell them when they got back? Why didn’t she tell them when they left? Was she expecting them to get scolded? This was their first day of the internship, and it left such a poor impression. Wouldn’t this impact their future?
They had seen shameless people, but none as shameless as her.
“Maybe she forgot?” Li Jia wanted to defend Wei Jiani, but even for her, this excuse felt weak and fruitless. She couldn’t convince even herself, let alone others.
When they got back, Wei Jiani was still lying on her bare bed. Surprisingly, she didn’t have a quilt yet, but there was a stack of clothes by her side, presumably the internship uniform.
“Wei Jiani, why didn’t you tell us to go get our uniforms?” One girl couldn’t restrain herself from questioning Wei Jiani. This situation would have made anyone furious. It was their first day here, and they didn’t deserve such unfair treatment. The importance of the internship, she wondered if Wei Jiani understood. Any small mistake could render their years of labor in vain. It may deprive them of the opportunity to stay in the military hospital, and it might metamorphose their future.
“I forgot,” Wei Jiani languidly rolled her eyes, of course not missing their uniforms. She retorted, “I wanted to notify you, but I didn’t know how to contact you since you didn’t have a phone. I then forgot about it. Besides, why are you blaming me? Am I your babysitter who needs to manage everything for you?”
Her words weren’t wrong, but they upset everyone including Li Jia.
Li Jia was well aware that Wei Jiani was selfish. She only cared about herself without considering others. However, she never expected Wei Jiani to stoop so low.
This was their internship. Did she have any idea how important it was for them as college students?
Yes, Li Jia could say for sure that Wei Jiani knew very well how crucial it was. However, she deliberately withheld the information from them. The opportunity to stay after the internship was incredibly important. Everyone wanted to stay, and no one wanted to be eliminated. The best candidates remained, and it was they who decided who was the best.
