Chapter 399 - Chapter 399: Chapter 392 Sister's Treasure

Chapter 399: Chapter 392 Sister’s Treasure

“Sir, I’m not naive. I chose my stepmother for my father because she could give me a younger brother,” If it wasn’t for my brother, she would never have let Ren Li become her stepmother. This title of stepmother always felt dismissive, and whenever people heard it, they would look at her with sympathetic eyes.

In her experience, having a stepmother wasn’t scary, but having a stepfather was. The stepfather was truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Mr. Huang rubbed his forehead, wondering what exactly these kids were thinking about these days?

Tang Yuxin cleaned the black ointment off Mr. Huang’s leg with medicinal water. At this point, the flesh on his leg was mostly restored and indeed didn’t need a skin graft, therefore, didn’t have to endure additional harm or multiple surgeries.

It significantly alleviated the burden on his legs and his body.

So, Mr. Huang no longer has to live with dressing ointments every day. All he needs to do now is wait for his bones to heal. Also, the scar on his leg wouldn’t be too serious. This was something Tang Yuxin could guarantee, he could definitely feel confident wearing shorts in public.

Tang Yuxin needed to return to school. She hadn’t been back in a long time due to hospital stay of over two months, halfway through her junior year.

When she offered to return the doctor’s uniform she had been wearing, the Dean declined, stating she might still need it in the future,

Tang Yuxin thought about it and agreed. It’s possible she might need it soon anyway. Oh, and she also returned her meal card.

The Dean didn’t take the meal card either, explaining that Gu Ning had arranged it for her. The name on the card was hers, and the doctors dining in the cafeteria received subsidies from the state. Gu Ning personally funded the portion beyond the subsidy.

Tang Yuxin never expected the meal card to have such a special status.

She pulled an invoice, which had her name and Gu Ning listed as the payer, out of her bag.

Uncle Gu, how am I supposed to return this card to you?

A low-key off-road vehicle entered Li Tang Village. Although the village had seen tremendous development in recent years, the villagers had never seen such a vehicle, clearly a military vehicle, which parked right in front of Tang Zhinian’s house.

People said the Tang Family had really made it big. They bought land and built high-rise buildings in the city. Each unit in those buildings sold for over a hundred thousand, even over two hundred thousand. Who would have thought the formerly impoverished Tang family could achieve such prosperity? Once in need of taking out entire savings just for marrying off their daughters, the Tang brothers were now famous figures in Qing’an, frequently appearing on television. Also, the Tang daughter first achieved the highest provincial literature exam score and then enrolled in Qing University. She too had appeared on television and newspaper multiple times. She was a true Golden Phoenix who had flown out of their village.

And now, another guest has arrived.

Could it possibly be some sort of trouble?

Some jealous people suggested that perhaps the Tang family was living too well, and something was bound to go wrong. Perhaps their building construction was faulty, or the Tang brothers were in trouble.

However, they seemed to forget that if the Tang family were really in trouble, the police would’ve been visiting, not a military off-roader.

When Zhang Xiangcao opened the door and saw the visitors, she was momentarily taken aback.

“May I ask, whom are you here to see?”

“Hello,” said the man at the door, quite handsome with a tenacious, unabashed air.

“Are you Tang Zhinian’s family?”

“Yes, we are,” Zhang Xiangcao nodded, “May I ask who you gentlemen are…?”

Before she could finish her sentence, a little boy emerged from the house and ran towards the man, hugging his legs tightly,

“Brother Gu, did you come to visit Chengcheng? Did you bring Chengcheng a gift?” Chengcheng lifted his little face, batting his big sparkling eyes. He held a certain resemblance to Tang Yuxin, albeit a more rounded, rosy-cheeked version. There was no telling what he might look like when he grows up, as long as he doesn’t develop a burly figure with a pretty face.

Gu Ning bent down, lifted little chubby Chengcheng with one hand, and let him sit on his arm, “How is it that every time I see you, you’ve put on more weight?”

Little pudgy Chengcheng cupped his chubby cheeks, “Mommy says I look cuter when I’m chubby. Auntie says, chubby is adorable. Sister Sisi says, she loves to pinch me when I’m chubby. Godfather says, chubby kids are healthier.”

The little one articulated his words clearly, summarizing all that his elders told him. In his mind, all that mattered was one thing, that he was the most adored kid at home, his two sisters loved him dearly, often giving him their best stuff.

Little chubby seemed to really like Gu Ning, clinging to Gu’s arm and refusing to let go.

“Brother Gu, Brother Gu, Chengcheng will show you something nice,” Little chubby hugged Gu Ning’s neck, attempting to pull Gu Ning to see his treasures. Gu Ning signaled his subordinates, and they brought down many local specialties from the vehicle. He happened to pass by Qing’an and decided to visit Tang Yuxin’s family and check on little chubby.

In no time, the Tang household was filled with gifts. Gu Ning was led by little chubby to see his treasures. The guests seated themselves, smiling shyly. Zhang Xiangcao, seeing that Chengcheng recognized them, didn’t worry much. She immediately invited them to sit, served them water and fruit, and called Tang Zhinian and Tang Zhijun, letting them know guests had arrived.

When Tang Zhinian got the call, he rushed back home.

“Brother Gu, it’s here. These are my sister’s treasures.”

Chengcheng pointed ahead with his tiny finger, his look mystifying, his expression clearly stating that he wouldn’t reveal the secret even if others begged him.

Gu Ning extended his hand to spread the curtain in front of a shelf. Behind the veil was a collection of glass bottles, each of them containing snakes of various colors. Some were thick, some were thin, some of them were soaking ginseng or various kinds of herbs. He scrutinized each bottle; every bottle was labeled indicating the year and type of liquor it was soaked in.
