Chapter 1569: Clash of Alphas
Chapter 1569: Clash of Alphas
The mountain plateau trembled with tension.
Dozens of werewolves had gathered around the clearing, forming a wide circle of fur, muscle, and uncertain loyalty. The scent of sweat and fear lingered in the air. No one dared move , not yet.
Whispers spread like sparks. Some wolves growled under their breath, their claws digging into the dirt. Others looked torn, shifting uneasily between the two figures standing in the center.
Rogan. The Alpha who had given them order, safety, and structure.
And Steve. The wolf who had saved many of them, the one who had risked everything for their freedom.
They were both legends in this camp, but legends could not coexist for long.
The crowd was split, and the silence began to fracture as Rogan’s deep, thunderous voice rolled through the clearing.
“Are you all fools?” he roared. His crimson eyes flared as his voice reverberated off the mountain walls. “Since the beginning of time, Alphas have fought against each other! Packs have clashed, blood has spilled, that is our nature! That is the law of our kind!”
The older wolves stood taller at his words, their instincts answering the call of dominance and order. Rogan’s power still ran through their veins, commanding them even as doubt stirred in their hearts.
“The Red Wing Pack knows this too,” Rogan continued, his voice rising. “What you’re seeing here is a trick!” He pointed a clawed finger toward Steve and Jack. “Steve has been deceived! The Red Wing Alpha whispered lies into his ears , and now he’s brought him here, to our home, to divide us!”
He began to pace, his voice dropping to a growl. “If the Red Wing wolves truly found their way here, do you think they’d still live? That Alpha, ” Rogan thrust his arm toward Jack “, he would have slaughtered them himself! And now he’s brought his poison here to finish the job!”
Gasps and murmurs rippled through the crowd.
Steve clenched his fists. Rage burned inside him, but beneath it was a deeper ache, disbelief.
“You make me sick, Rogan,” Steve said, his voice trembling but strong. “I used to think, at the very least, you believed in what you stood for. That even if we disagreed, your choices came from conviction , not fear.”
Rogan’s red eyes snapped toward him, but Steve didn’t falter.
“You told me yourself that you killed them,” Steve said, his voice echoing through the clearing. “You looked me in the eyes and said it! I came back alone, and everyone here saw it. I only returned to stop you, to stop this madness! But now, you lie to their faces, pretending you didn’t. Even though you know what you’ve done is unforgivable.”
Rogan’s nostrils flared, the air shaking with his low, guttural growl.
“Rogan,” Steve continued, his voice softer now, “you’ve lost your way. You don’t even realize it , but fear is leading you now, not strength.”
For a heartbeat, silence filled the air. Then, like a storm breaking, Steve’s body began to change.
Fur rippled across his arms, crawling over his neck and chest. His muscles bulged, and his eyes glowed gold as his bones cracked and reshaped. With a swift spin, he reached behind him , grabbing his shield and bringing it forward in a single motion.
By the time his transformation was complete, his body was covered in dark fur, armor molded perfectly to his frame.
In a blur of movement, he lunged forward.
The ground beneath him shattered as he launched across the clearing, a gust of dust and stone exploding outward. His speed was incredible , far faster than before. The armor and weapon Jack had given him amplified every ounce of his strength.
In that instant, Rogan transformed as well. His growl turned into a roar, his entire body bursting with black fur and muscle. White bone erupted from his forearms like ivory blades, jagged and sharp. He brought both hands together, swinging them down to intercept Steve’s charge.
The shield collided with Rogan’s bone-covered fists. The impact cracked the air with a deafening BOOM. Dust burst outward, several wolves shielding their faces as the ground splintered beneath them.
Steve pressed forward, driving his shield harder until the sharpened tip stabbed deep into Rogan’s arm. The Alpha’s snarl twisted into a grimace of pain.
“You’ve fallen so low,” Rogan spat, his voice a venomous snarl. “Using human tools , their filth , just to keep up with me! You call yourself a werewolf? You disgrace what we are!”
Steve yanked the shield free. “You talk like we’re nothing but beasts!” he shouted. “But we’re more than that, Rogan! You want to cling to instincts that only lead to blood and hate , but I won’t! If we truly want a future, then we have to evolve. We have to choose something better!”
Rogan’s snarl turned feral.
The bone on his arm began to shift and grow again, cracking and reforming until it covered his entire right arm, forming a massive bone gauntlet twice the size of his body. The ground quaked under his feet as he leaped high into the air, his silhouette blotting out the sun.
Then he roared, swinging the monstrous arm down with all his might.
The impact never landed.
A flash of gold cut through the air , fast, clean, and heavy.
A great sword collided with the bone fist mid-swing. The sound that followed was like thunder shattering glass. Bone fragments exploded outward, scattering across the field. Rogan was flung backward, crashing into the earth hard enough to crack the ground.
Steve turned his head.
Jack stood behind him, one hand gripping the massive sword now planted in the ground. His golden armor gleamed, faint steam rising from its surface.
He gave a faint grin. “You’re right,” Jack said, his voice calm but edged with amusement. “That’s the strangest , and ugliest , looking werewolf I’ve ever seen.”
