Chapter 48: Easy Lightning Tribulation

Realising why Ting Ting had burst into tears, Gu Chen had to explain that she couldn’t transcend the lightning tribulation on the mountain because the barrier around the mountain would be considered an interference.

If that happened, the lightning tribulation’s strength would increase, and it would be even more dangerous.

"I’ve prepared everything for you; you have nothing to worry about." Gu Chen stated, still standing beside the lake.

Only then did Ting Ting calm down and climb onto Feng Shuran’s flying sword, and both women flew into the sky.

After they left the mountain, Gu Chen relaxed on his wooden chair and watched as the sky above the mountain returned to normal.

He wasn’t worried in the slightest about Ting Ting’s safety. With everything he had prepared for her, a tribulation lightning like this was nothing!

He closed his eyes and waited for the two women to return.

Feng Shuran flew for several minutes with Ting Ting. Her speed wasn’t very fast, but she still covered a large distance easily.

Soon, they were several kilometres away from the territory of the Bloody Rose Sect; only then did Feng Shuran descend to the ground, and they jumped off the flying sword.

Ting Ting glanced around. The place they had stopped was an empty field of dried grass that stretched for hundreds of meters. There were no human settlements within several kilometres of this place, and they hadn’t encountered any beasts either, so it was safe for Ting Ting to break through here.

After Ting Ting left the mountain, the dark sky moved along with her. Currently, the clouds were twisting, and a black vortex was gradually taking form. The aura of this vortex was severely weaker compared to the one that had appeared when Feng Shuran had broken through to the Nascent Soul Realm.

It was to be expected, after all, Ting Ting was only breaking through to the Foundation Establishment Realm.

"Sect master," Ting Ting called out, still nervous.

Even though Gu Chen had explained everything to her, she was still scared.

Feng Shuran glanced at her and then at the forming vortex in the sky. Without saying a word, she waved her hand, and several items appeared around her.

Ting Ting’s eyes lit up when she saw them. There were several formation flags, a formation plate, and a piece of body armour.

"Here," Feng Shuran said, and the armour flew towards Ting Ting. This armour was a mortal-grade magical treasure that she had gotten from the storage pouch of one of the cultivators she had killed back then.

It was useless to her but would be helpful to Ting Ting, even though she might end up not needing it. After all, with everything that her Master had prepared, it was very unlikely that the lightning tribulation would be able to get to Ting Ting before exhausting all its strikes.

For one, there were the formation flags. With it, Feng Shuran would be able to set up a tribulation lightning barrier for Ting Ting. Secondly, the formation plate that had been used to suppress Feng Shuran back when the forces of Oghara attacked them.

The formation plate was able to suppress a Nascent Soul Realm cultivator; how could a lightning tribulation at the Foundation Establishment Realm hope to survive it?

These two were Gu Chen’s arrangements. With them, Ting Ting would be able to survive the tribulation without lifting a finger!

While Ting Ting was putting on the armour, Feng Shuran started planting the formation flags according to how Gu Chen had taught her. It took her less than a minute to set up everything.

After she was done, she told Ting Ting, who was now in the armour, to step into the middle of the formation flags.

"Hit that one with your qi to activate the formation," Feng Shuran instructed while pointing at a particular formation flag that looked no different from the rest.

Ting Ting nodded and did exactly as she was told. The moment her qi touched the formation flag, all the other flags trembled and rays of light shot up from them before curving about her.

They quickly connected and formed a dome of yellow light around her.

The reason Feng Shuran had not activated the barrier herself was that its strength would correspond to her Realm. The lightning tribulation would see that as an interference since Ting Ting was only at the QI Gathering Realm, and would then cause the strength of the following lightning strikes to rise to the Nascent Soul Realm!

Ting Ting was dazed as she stared at the yellow light covering her. She had yet to recover when Feng Shuran threw a yellow formation plate at her and instructed her on how to activate it.

Ting Ting was even more shocked that the formation plate would be able to weaken the lightning tribulation strikes!

A tribulation barrier, protective armour, and formation plate. Uncle Chen really prepared so much for her!

Ting Ting was extremely touched.

By now, the vortex had completely formed above her, and the wind was chaotic. Black clouds twisted in the sky and streaks of lightning flashed through them.

Rumble!

The pressure of the vortex increased slightly; the tribulation was about to begin!

Feng Shuran gave Ting Ting one final look before moving back, creating distance between them.

Ting Ting didn’t notice this; her attention was on the black vortex above her. She grabbed the formation plate and quickly did as Feng Shuran had instructed.

A while later, the formation plate was floating above her, and its oppressive light landed on the vortex, instantly causing the pressure of the lightning tribulation to reduce.

Btzzz!!

Boom!

The first strike shot down and crashed into the yellow barrier protecting Ting Ting. Startled, the girl closed her eyes and let out a frightened yelp.

Only after some seconds did she open her eyes and look up.

Under the effect of the suppression formation plate, the strike from the lightning tribulation barely reached the 2nd stage of the QI Gathering Realm and was easily blocked by the barrier.

Ting Ting’s eyes flashed with excitement; she had survived the first strike without doing anything!

Some distance away from her, Feng Shuran stood with a calm expression and stared in Ting Ting’s direction. She couldn’t help but recall the times she had transcended lightning tribulation.

From the QI Gathering Realm to the Foundation Establishment Realm, Core Formation Realm, and then finally reaching the Nascent Soul Realm.

She didn’t have anyone to set up so many survival means for her, and she had been in great danger every time she broke through. She had eventually met her master when breaking through to the Nascent Soul Realm, but even at that time, he didn’t help her with the lightning tribulation and had held back her pursuers instead.

Feng Shuran was slightly jealous of Ting Ting for a brief moment; this was the girl’s first encounter with the lightning tribulation, yet she received so much help and wouldn’t feel the danger at all.

A strong outburst of pressure exploded from Ting Ting’s body as she successfully entered the Foundation Establishment Realm!

Ting Ting stared at herself with excitement written all over her face. She could feel it; she was much stronger than before!

She looked in the direction of Feng Shuran.

"Sect master," she said, her voice overflowing with emotions.

Feng Shuran slowly walked over while looking at the girl.

"The energy from the lightning tribulation is precious; don’t waste it." She stated. The qi from the vortex was still surrounding Ting Ting; the girl was being emotional instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to absorb as much as she could!

When Feng Shuran broke through to the Nascent Soul Realm back then, she had used this same opportunity to directly enter the 4th stage. If Ting Ting was lucky enough, she might achieve the same result.

Hearing Feng Shuran’s words, Ting Ting forced herself to calm down. She immediately entered a meditative position and started absorbing the qi around her.

Feng Shuran nodded when she saw this and stood next to the girl.

Time passed. Ting Ting opened her eyes after a few hours. The qi from the vortex had disappeared; sadly, she only managed to enter the 2nd stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm.

She was just too excited and could barely focus on absorbing the qi, causing her to only achieve a little progress.

"Sect master, I’m done!" Ting Ting said in high spirits as she got up from the ground. She had reached the 2nd stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm and was quite satisfied.

Feng Shuran stared at her with a blank face. If this girl knew that she could have reached the 4th or possibly 5th stage, would she be disappointed about reaching the 2nd stage?

Anyway, Feng Shuran decided to not mention anything about it. She summoned her flying sword, and both of them left the place.
