Chapter 89: Chapter 89 - Undefined

In the next instant, Alear appeared inside the [World Where I Can Personify God], atop a hill surrounded by vast green fields that stretched all the way to the horizon.

The moment his feet touched the ground, his body gave way. A jet of scarlet blood escaped his lips, splattering across the grass. He staggered a few steps, fighting to remain conscious, until he managed to gather enough strength to sit cross-legged in the center of his personal domain. His eyes clenched shut tightly while his brow furrowed deeply. Every muscle in his body remained tense, as if he were enduring a pain capable of reaching not only his flesh but his very first soul.

Something chaotic was happening inside him. Fine, luminous, almost living golden threads began to appear throughout his entire body. They snaked through his flesh, his soul, and his energy, moving frenetically as if obeying a will of their own. Still, they all shared the same destination. They were irresistibly drawn by a force similar to a powerful magnetic field, converging toward the deepest core of his existence: his [Divinity].

The [Divinity] began devouring the golden threads with terrifying greed, absorbing them and incorporating them into its own essence. At the same time, his demonic nature was also dragged along by that same overwhelming force. The two energies, which until then had coexisted in a delicate balance, collided violently.

The result was immediate.

His entire body shuddered. The veins in his neck and arms stood out while cold sweat ran down his forehead. An excruciating pain coursed through every fiber of his body, reaching his soul and his very existence. It was as if two primordial forces were disputing absolute control over his being: on one side, the [Divinity], evolving unceasingly, trying to elevate his existence to a new level; on the other, his demonic nature, resisting with all its strength so as not to be completely assimilated.

Neither was willing to yield. The collision between them turned his body into the battlefield where that conflict was being fought.

All he could do was minimize the damage caused to his own body while his mind tried to understand what was happening. From the few clues he could gather amid the pain, he reached a rather obvious conclusion: the energy that had been drawn to him was ’faith energy’. For some reason, that energy had awakened his [Divinity] far more intensely than before. Until then, it had been strengthening gradually and steadily, without causing any significant side effects. Now, however, it seemed to have found an unexpected source of nourishment. It absorbed the faith energy voraciously, growing at a speed far above normal and shattering the balance that had existed between his divine nature and his demonic nature....

The faith energy probably came from those who had bought the potion for the cure of the Sleeping Disease. Strangely, he could hear countless prayers of gratitude in his mind. Wait... a devil praying? Well, many of them revered Lucifer the same way humans worshipped a God, so it was not that strange. Still, that definitely was not the moment to think about it...

He could feel, in an almost surreal way, his [Divinity] completely consuming his demonic nature. In a few instants it devoured the lineage traits present in his body and soul, using them as fuel for a single purpose: to give birth to an [Authority].

He was obviously excited. An [Authority] was a mystery that transcended magic itself, an existence that, in his former world, was considered a manifestation of omnipotence itself. While magic and ordinary abilities achieved certain results through principles, formulas, or logical processes, an [Authority] simply imposed that result upon reality. It did not need to obey laws, mechanisms, or any kind of logic; the phenomenon occurred solely because its bearer possessed the absolute right to make it so. And considering the concepts being incorporated into it—such as ’Immortality’, ’Soul’, ’Sea’, ’Space’, and ’Gravity’, originating from the various lineage traits he had acquired—the potential of that ability far surpassed that of an ordinary Authority...

At the same time that his [Authority] was being born, his demonic power was gradually being replaced by mana, without him losing the ability to use imagination to create magic. The difference lay in the source of energy and its scale. The amount of mana that had previously been equivalent to that of a High-Class Devil evolved to the level of a Ultimate-Class Devil, becoming only slightly inferior to someone like Grayfia in volume. In terms of quality, however, the difference was literally of another dimension...

Even having lost his demonic power, he could still feel with absolute clarity that he remained a Devil in every sense of the word. In fact, the sensation was exactly the opposite of what he had expected. Instead of moving away from his demonic nature, he perceived that he had become even closer to it. It was as if he had merely abandoned an inferior form of energy while his own existence evolved into a purer and more primordial state, preserving intact the essence that defined him as a Devil.

Wait...

Did that mean he had become a [True Devil]?

In his former world, the True Demons were existences brought into light by the Lord, beings that represented demons in their primordial form, even before they received names or concepts imposed by humanity. It was said they were entities comparable to the horrors described in a famous fictional myth of the twentieth century; beings similar to the so-called Outer Gods, whose existence transcended the universe itself.

The main characteristic of those entities was precisely the ability to perform the miracle of magic through the simple release of magical energy, without the need for formulas, incantations, or any other intermediate process. And from what he was feeling at that exact moment... that was exactly what he was now capable of doing.

But there was a detail that complicated that conclusion.

At the same time that he acquired the characteristics of a True Devil, his [Divinity] was also giving birth to an [Authority], something inherently divine. In other words, he could also be classified as a God.

"..."

Hmm...

Could it be that, in truth, he was becoming something similar to an Outer God?

Thinking about it carefully, the hypothesis made sense.

After all, his soul did not belong to that universe. It had come from another world, making him, from a certain point of view, a true alien to that reality. The only reason he had not been rejected by the world itself was the fact that he had been reborn in it, allowing his existence to be accepted by the laws of that dimension. Now, however, as his nature transcended the limits of an ordinary devil and an ordinary god, perhaps he was walking toward a category of existence completely different from both....

Well, at that moment he was a [True Devil], a [God], and possibly a [Cosmic Horror] in formation. At the same time, he was also the opposite of all that: the Nothing, a void that transcended any concept, the result of the origin of his past life, whose influence still permeated his existence even after rebirth. Honestly, he could no longer define what his own race was.

The instant that new source of energy definitively settled in his body, transforming him into an existence that not even he was capable of classifying, his physique also underwent a drastic change. Thanks to the ’Binding Vow’ made earlier, all that spiritual and existential evolution was converted into concrete strength. His body became far more powerful in every aspect, while various new characteristics began to emerge, as if his own biology were being rewritten to adapt to the new form of life that had just been born.

When everything finally ended and the pain disappeared completely, Alear slowly opened his eyes. His irises had acquired a deep, almost unfathomable gleam. Upon noticing that, however, he soon realized another change that left him genuinely surprised....

His Mystic Eyes had disappeared!

Still, it took only an instant of reflection to understand the reason.

The Mystic Eyes were nothing more than an extremely specialized form of magic, a phenomenon that used the eyes as a medium to manifest a single supernatural effect. Now, however, he himself had become an existence composed essentially of magic and a mystery that transcended everything he knew from his former world. It no longer made sense to depend on an external mechanism to achieve something that his own nature was capable of performing. In a way, his former Mystic Eyes had simply lost their reason to exist....

"..."

"...Well, in compensation, my perception has increased to a level that can almost be considered a form of omniscience. It is similar to that of that perverted flower magician who likes to put a dick in women. I can ’visualize’ everything that happens within a certain area in the present in the finest details, knowing even what someone is thinking or their intentions far more clearly than before, although this perception is still much more limited in range and focus than his."

He paused briefly while analyzing the changes in his own body.

"Besides that, I can also use a kind of [Marble Phantasm], an ability that under normal circumstances belongs only to Nature Spirits connected to the world itself, but that somehow I am able to use as if I had always been capable of it. Another completely absurd characteristic to add to my collection... Although, I admit, it is a ridiculously powerful ability."

Alear let out a small sigh before continuing.

"I also possess an [Authority] in formation. From what I can perceive, it has not yet been completed and continues developing. In compensation, I completely lost all my lineage traits and, with them, all the abilities derived from those lineages."

He then made a quick mental assessment of his situation.

"In summary... aside from the [Marble Phantasm], a far more powerful physical body, an incomparably superior energy source, my Sacred Gears, the abilities obtained through the [Fate Gacha], and the [Authority] that is still being born... I practically have nothing left. Funny how, sometimes, losing everything ends up meaning becoming much stronger...."

"The principle of equivalent exchange was put to the test once again, huh..."

Still, he would accept that deal again without thinking twice. Although he had become an [Undefined] in terms of race and was only at the beginning of a path whose destination not even he could imagine, the power he had obtained compensated for all of it. Now he no longer needed to fear a Satan or a God of that world. For the first time since he was reborn, he had stopped being a simple disposable cannon fodder and finally reached the level of a powerful secondary character....

Alear slowly raised his gaze.

The world around him seemed completely different. The green fields radiated an almost unreal vitality, while the breeze carried a crystalline freshness that caressed his skin. The colors of the sky and the horizon appeared far deeper and more vivid than before, revealing nuances that his former senses had never been capable of perceiving. Even the air seemed lighter, purer, as if reality itself had acquired a beauty that had always existed but had remained hidden from his eyes.

"..."

Was that the perception of an existence that had transcended the world itself? Or perhaps it was a consequence of his new nature, something close to that of an entity alien to that reality.

It was... beautiful.

Beautiful enough to make him understand, even if only a little, why so many Outer Gods from his former world desired to enter the universe. Compared to the sterile immensity that probably existed beyond it, that place overflowed with life.

A slight smile appeared on his lips.

In any case, that was not something worth thinking about at that moment.

For the first time in a long while, he felt a genuine freedom. It was not only the newly acquired power. It was something much deeper. The empty and excessively pragmatic nature that had always accompanied him, the fruit of a previous existence marked by his origin of ’Mu’, seemed to have loosened its chains. It had not disappeared; it continued to be part of him, but it no longer dominated every one of his thoughts. For the first time, he had the sensation that that emptiness could, at last, be filled... and that he might truly be able to find happiness....
