My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 562: Mess Up
Chapter 560
BANG! BANG! BOOM—!
Felix and an Aberrant exchanged punches for several seconds, neither side willing to give the other an inch. The ground beneath them cracked with every collision, the force of their blows sending chunks of earth flying outward. Sometimes, the ground even caved inward beneath their feet, unable to withstand the sheer weight of their impacts.
Yet, through it all, Felix wore a grin that stretched from ear to ear.
The werewolf was enjoying himself.
To him, this was more than a fight. It was a contest of strength, an opportunity to test just how much punishment his body could dish out against an opponent of comparable size.
Two Aberrants suddenly attacked from behind, their enormous feet sweeping towards his back.
Felix didn’t even bother turning around.
With the punch from the Aberrant in front of him still rushing towards his face, he cocked his arms backwards and dropped his body, bending at an almost impossible angle. His torso came dangerously close to the ground, his face practically kissing the earth as the incoming punch sailed over him.
At the same time, the two kicks from behind passed over his lowered body.
CRASH!
The attacks collided with one another.
The punch and the kicks met with enough force to send a miniature shockwave erupting around them, kicking up dust and scattering loose rubble across the battlefield.
Felix planted both hands against the ground.
His arms bulged as he pushed upward, the strength in his shoulders and triceps propelling his entire body into the air. He twisted his torso mid-flight, his lips splitting into an even more satisfied grin.
His arms had grown noticeably thicker. There was still no fur emerging from his skin, but the muscles beneath it had swollen to an almost ridiculous degree, making him look like a bodybuilder who had spent decades pushing himself to the absolute limit in the gym.
He tightened both hands into fists.
An incoming punch came hurtling towards his face, but Felix tilted his head at the last possible moment. The attack swept past his cheek, missing by a hair’s breadth.
His counterattack came immediately.
Felix’s fist blurred forward and slammed into the Aberrant’s arm.
CRACK!
The creature’s rocky armour fractured under the impact, its arm bending backwards at an unnatural angle as the force of the blow travelled through its entire body.
Felix didn’t give it time to recover.
He kicked the air with such explosive force that a thunderous BANG resounded around him. The resulting burst of momentum sent him hurtling forward, closing the distance between himself and the Aberrant in a single second.
His fist shot forward like a bullet.
BOOOOM!
The punch connected squarely with the creature’s body, sending it flying backwards and crashing straight through the side of a nearby building. Concrete shattered around its enormous frame as the structure trembled from the impact.
Meanwhile, the livestream comments continued pouring in.
[Anime weeb: Oi, oi....what sort of monstrous strength is that? Why the hell does a sixteen-years-old kid have such strength when he isn’t a werewolf like Ray?]
[Justapyscho; Man. Man. What’s with all these kids? Why do they feel like psychos?]
[Daigeto: You have to be a psycho to actually do what they are doing. Heading in here when knowing the full danger.]
[Citizen No 1: I don’t know who the hell they are, I only know the mecha child and the silver haired werewolf right from when they were kids. But if these kids can help retake our home, I don’t care if they are mental patients or not. We need them! Go kids! I’m behind you all!]
The comments reflected what many watching the livestream were beginning to realise.
These teenagers weren’t ordinary Vanguards.
They were fighting creatures capable of massacring entire groups of humans, and they were doing so with a ferocity that seemed almost insane.
But the danger was far from over.
An Aberrant lunged at Felix from behind, its enormous body surging forward as it prepared to strike the werewolf while his attention was elsewhere.
Before it could close the distance, two beams tore through the air and struck the ground directly in front of it.
BOOM! BOOM!
The sudden explosions forced the creature to halt and reconsider its approach, its attention shifting towards the source of the attack.
Van.
Fortunately, the technological genius had managed to reload his exo-suit with beast cores, replenishing the energy he had been burning through during the battle.
And now, he was an absolute menace.
With the power supplied by a King-Rank core, Van unleashed beams capable of tearing into the flesh of King-Rank beasts. Against the Aberrants, the attacks were devastating, ripping through their rocky armour and leaving terrible wounds wherever they struck.
His suit’s mechanical components hummed as he continued firing, each blast forcing the surrounding creatures to reconsider approaching him carelessly.
Felix, meanwhile, had already found another target.
He landed on the ground for a brief moment, his knees bending to absorb the impact. Then he pushed off with tremendous force, launching himself towards the Aberrant that Van had just disoriented.
The creature barely had time to react.
Felix’s fist crashed into its jaw.
BANG!
Its teeth smashed together violently as its enormous head snapped backwards. The force of the punch lifted the creature almost entirely off its feet, leaving its body momentarily suspended in the air.
Before Felix could follow up, however, another figure appeared above the staggering Aberrant.
Caster.
The young Legacy descended upon the creature with his short swords already in hand. His movements were so swift that the Aberrant barely had time to register his presence before the blades struck.
In the next instant, the creature was finished.
Caster landed lightly, sheathed neither blade nor wasted a moment admiring his work. He simply glanced at Felix.
"No mention," he said, before vanishing in a blur.
Felix remained where he was, blinking in confusion.
For a moment, he couldn’t quite process what had happened. Then the realisation sank in, and his expression twisted with anger.
"You damned Legacy, did I ask for your he—!"
"—Look ou—!"
Van’s warning was cut short.
An Aberrant’s enormous foot came hurtling towards Felix and slammed into his body before he could finish turning around.
BANG!
The impact sent the werewolf flying.
Felix crashed through a building wall, his body tearing through the concrete before skidding across the floor inside. He continued sliding, smashing through debris as his momentum carried him towards the opposite side of the structure.
CRASH!
He burst through the other wall and shot back into the open, rubble tumbling around him as he hurtled towards the ground.
Blood threatened to spill from his lips.
Before his body could slide any farther, his hands transformed into deadly claws. He drove them into the earth, digging deep into the ground as the friction and resistance gradually brought his momentum to an abrupt halt.
Chunks of earth tore loose around his fingers.
Felix remained crouched for a moment, his breathing heavy as he lifted his head.
His eyes flashed yellow.
Across the battlefield, he locked gazes with the Aberrant charging straight towards him. The creature’s massive frame bore down on him, its feet pounding against the earth as it closed the distance.
Felix’s muscles tensed.
He was about to move.
He wanted to move.
But for some inexplicable reason, his body refused to respond.
Not a single muscle would obey him.
Hands locked to the ground. So were his feet.
’Huh?’
Felix blinked in confusion.
He wasn’t scared. He wasn’t worried, either.
So why couldn’t he move?
The answer came when his shadow suddenly rippled outward.
....
Blitzing between the projectiles being hurled his way, Kai avoided each and every one of them despite having his eyes firmly shut beneath his black bandana.
With his vision obstructed, his other senses had heightened to an incredible degree, allowing him to perceive incoming attacks and react accordingly. He dodged and ducked between the projectiles before leaping into the air, the crystal around his elbow expanding and shifting until it formed a saw.
CLANG!
The crystal saw collided with an Aberrant’s claws.
Kai spun furiously, the rotating saw tearing through the creature’s claws as blue blood rolled down his nose. He paid it no attention, pushing the arm away before kicking off a pillar Captain Raze had erected earlier.
His body shot forward.
His hand was now completely encased in dense purple crystal, and he rocketed towards the Aberrant at a speed far beyond what someone his age should have been capable of achieving.
His crystal-covered hand spun like a drill, blurring through the air as he closed in on his target. The Two-Spined Aberrant’s eyes widened in genuine horror.
As a Two-Spined Aberrant, it possessed considerable strength and speed.
Yet, the speed of Kai’s incoming attack surpassed anything it was prepared to deal with.
What the creature didn’t know was that Kai was manipulating his crystal ability around his hand to make it move even faster. The technique allowed him to push his attack beyond its usual limits, but it also consumed more Meta-Force from his body.
A second.
He was just a second away from blasting a hole through the Aberrant’s head when something pounced towards him from the edge of his closed vision.
Before he could react, a massive fist sliced through the air.
Kai managed to thrust his crystal-encased hand forward, bringing it into the path of the incoming punch at the very last moment.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough time to reinforce his guard before the fist of a second Aberrant hammered into his crystal defence.
BANG!
Kai felt as though his entire arm had exploded inwardly. His bones vibrated under the impact, the sensation resembling being struck by a sledgehammer.
CRACK!
The crystal encasing his arm fractured under the tremendous force.
Blood burst from Kai’s mouth as his body was sent shooting out of the air and straight into a wall. The neglected structure, already weakened after months without maintenance, collapsed upon impact.
Rubble came crashing down around him, burying his body beneath the debris.
The Aberrants wasted no time rushing towards the collapsed structure, determined to finish what they had started.
Hearing their approaching footsteps, Kai twitched beneath the rubble. A groan escaped his lips as crimson liquid trickled down them.
With a strained movement, he slammed one hand against the ground and pushed himself upward. Pieces of debris and dust slid off his back as he lifted his head.
A massive foot came rocketing towards him.
It was too fast for him to react.
Well, he didn’t need to react, though.
Shadows rippled forward like the surface of disturbed water.
Dozens of shadowy hands shot outward, grabbing the legs of both Aberrants and halting them in place as though their enormous bodies weighed nothing.
Silence fell around Kai.
The sudden stillness was almost deafening, prompting him to tug at his bandana and peek out with one eye.
And there, he saw the shadowy hands holding the two Aberrants in place.
It didn’t take even a fraction of a second for recognition to dawn on him.
Rising out of the shadows like the Grim Reaper itself, a young girl who appeared to be in her early twenties came into view.
And she definitely didn’t have the friendliest look on her face.
"How dare you touch my brother?"
’Oh boy.’
