Chapter 27: CH-27: An Jian, a child of luck, literally!

Jin Hui shifted his stance, allowing the blade to pass just in front of him before turning his wrist, his sword sliding against the other’s blade and knocking it aside.

Dong Mulan and Ning Rongrong weren’t fans of fights, so they decided to spectate, cheering for Gu Changsheng, who was clearly losing.

Soon, the sparring ceased, with only Su Mingyue winning. Both Ye Che and Gu Changsheng lost to their opponents.

Gu Changsheng gave out a helpless chuckle, knowing full well of his shortcomings. His sparring partner, Jin Hui, however, praised him.

"Though your sword techniques are crude, you have worked well with the basics."

And judging by how easily Jin Hui had dictated the pace of the fight, he should have observed his fighting stance rather carefully.

Dong Mulan and Ning Rongrong also came forward, comforting him, while Su Mingyue and Ye Che chatted with each other.

This was clearly unexpected. Gu Changsheng and Ning Rongrong were left stunned, unable to understand her thought process.

They looked at each other but couldn’t say anything. What could they even say?

"Gyaaahh!!"

Just then, someone was sent skidding violently across the floor, passing right through them.

Left speechless by the ordeal, they looked towards the victim.

It was a young boy, aged 8 or 9. The skid had severely wounded him, with his back and one of his arms bleeding profusely.

Dong Mulan, who was closest to him, quickly reached out and helped him up. The others also quickly followed, and several disciples even went to get medical help.

As Gu Changsheng came forward to help, he subconsciously checked for his status panel, its results baffling him.

He had found yet another Child of Fortune, this one being a sugar baby, as most of his opportunities were guided by Elder Jian.

But then he looked towards the place where the young boy, An Jian, came sliding from. There stood the reason for this incident, the main culprit.

Elder Jian!!

Yep, it was Elder Jian who threw this kiddo like he was a pile of dump.

She stood a bit afar motionlessly, her eyes cold and expression full of distrust.

He quickly turned back to check on the kid.

But the kid, as if made of iron, stood up without any help. Though still wobbly, he gave a respectful bow to Elder Jian. ℴ

"Elder Jian! Thank you for your guidance! I will continue to work harder!"

He then bowed towards Gu Changsheng and the others, apologising for the inconvenience, before limping away.

Elder Jian, as if not seeing the little one’s wounds nor hearing his soft desperation, simply turned around and walked away.

Gu Changsheng was left with a sour taste in his mouth. He wanted to say something, but he held it in. This was not their matter.

It was a great puzzle as to how that kid managed to tame this fierce elder.

Truly, the day the kitty decided the tiger looked more scared than scary.

Bowing towards Elder Jian, who was going back, Gu Changsheng gently rubbed the panda’s head, seeing her concerned look.

"Don’t worry, that kid will be fine, and we’ve already treated his injuries. Though he was bleeding profusely, Senior Brother’s healing pill did its work almost instantly, didn’t it?"

Dong Mulan nodded slightly, then shook her head in denial.

"I know, I am just wondering as to how could that Elder do something like this to a child?"

"Everything has its reasons."

He replied, though An Jian’s beating felt rather dramatic. There was definitely some backstory at play, or else how could Elder Jian become his sugar mama in the future?

As they watched the retreating figures, a new group of Sword Sect disciples approached, led by the same young man who had sparred with Gu Changsheng earlier, Jin Hui.

His expression was carefully neutral, but Gu Changsheng could see a flicker of disapproval, perhaps, or resignation, on his face.

"Apologies for the disturbance," Jin Hui said, his tone formal. "Elder Jian’s methods are... rather peculiar. An Jian is her personal protégé, so the training is quite harsh."

Su Mingyue asked, her gaze following the path where Elder Jian had disappeared.

"Personal protégé? To treat a child so..."

"In the Sword Sect, strength is the only thing that matters the most!"

Jin Hui interrupted, his voice flat as he continued.

"Elder Jian sees the potential in him, and that potential can only be forged with heavy training."

Ning Rongrong, who had been quiet until now, scoffed at that.

"He looked more like a rag doll being thrown around."

This left Jin Hui speechless, and he just gave a wry smile and minded his business, as meddling with others came with a punch in the face.

"Let’s try not to meddle in others’ business, Junior Sister, as we don’t know the inside story."

Ye Che said worriedly. Even though what happened may look out of place, it could definitely get them into trouble.

Ning Rongrong, though still annoyed, chose to keep silent. She turned to Su Mingyue, taking her hand as she expressed,

"Sister Mingyue, let’s go. You must be quite sweaty after all the training. Let’s take a bath together."

Without waiting any further, she half-forced Su Mingyue to leave with her.
