My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 240: The null expanse

The quiet rhythm of the Sanctum’s control hub was broken not by an alarm of war, but by a low, melodic hum that resonated through the floorboards.

Vince stood before the primary viewscreen, his arms crossed over his chest as dark amethyst light flickered within his eyes. Beside him, Elena’s slender fingers danced across a floating array of silver runes, analyzing a series of unprecedented spatial distortion waves emanating from the absolute edge of the realm.

"It’s not an attack," Elena reported softly, her golden eyes scanning the streaming data feeds. "When you erased the Obelisk of Absolute Law, Vince, you didn’t just remove the Sovereigns’ control over the lower provinces. You removed the static perimeter fence that kept the outer world out."

Barnaby drifted down from her perch near the vaulted ceiling, her translucent silver gown fluttering around her like liquid smoke. Her pale, delicate face bore an expression of sudden, intense focus, her golden eyes locked onto the glowing edge of the spatial map.

"The Null Expanse," Barnaby whispered, her voice tinged with a rare note of genuine intrigue. "For six thousand years, the Sovereigns maintained a artificial spatial border around the core provinces to keep the wild cosmic waste from bleeding in. Entities older than the Obelisk—primordial leviathans, unmapped void-cores, raw untamed ley-lines—were sealed outside."

She floated closer to Vince, resting her soft hand on his forearm. Her thumb stroked the dark fabric of his sleeve, a sultry, hungry smile curving her lips.

"Vince... the raw essence out there isn’t structured like provincial mana. It’s dense, ancient, and utterly unshaped. If we harvest the core anomalies in the Expanse, my lotus won’t just reach eighty percent. It will blossom completely."

Vetra stepped up beside them, rolling her shoulders with a sharp, toothy grin as she adjusted the heavy leather strap across her chest. "Wild beasts that never learned to fear divine law? Sounds like a much better fight than squashing panicked inquisitors."

Vince’s mouth curved into a dark, satisfied smirk. "Then we expand the border."

He turned to Elena. "Where is the thinnest point of the barrier?"

"The eastern perimeter of the First Canopy," Elena answered immediately, projecting a glowing green map of the Elven Realm. "The decay is fastest there. The outer boundary trees are already sensing the void-air."

"Good," Vince said, wrapping an arm around Elena’s waist and pulling her close, while gesturing for Vetra and Barnaby. "We go to the Canopy first. It’s time to see our queens."

The spatial transition from the atmospheric Sanctum to the grand courtyard of the First Canopy was completely silent.

One instant, the deep void of space filled the viewscreen; the next, the rich, sweet scent of crushing pine, elder-blossom, and fresh rain filled their lungs. They materialized on the grand ivory balcony of the royal tree-palace, overlooking an endless, rolling canopy of emerald leaves bathed in the purple glow of the new sky.

Before the honor guards could even raise their ceremonial halberds, Queen Moriele and Princess Lyrielle stepped out through the archway.

Lyrielle’s violet eyes widened as she took in the sight of Vince. Throwing royal decorum completely to the wind, she practically bounded across the marble floor, her forest-green dress swirling around her ankles as she threw her arms around his neck.

"Vince!" she chimed, burying her face into his shoulder before pulling back to kiss him deeply on the lips, completely unbothered by the presence of her mother or his companions. "I felt the spatial pulse! I knew it was you!"

Vince caught her effortlessly by the hip, returning the kiss with a claiming, deliberate pressure that left her gasping and rosy-cheeked before setting her down. "You look more like a crown princess every time I see you, Lyrielle."

"I’ve been studying," she said proudly, resting her hands on his chest with a bright smile. "Mother has been relentless."

Moriele glided forward, her silver-wood gown trailing gracefully behind her. Her mature, stunning features bore a warm, affectionate glow as she offered a low, elegant bow before stepping directly into Vince’s space. She reached up, her long, manicured fingers gently touching his cheek as he pulled her into a smooth, possessive embrace, kissing her with practiced familiarity.

"Welcome home, My King," Moriele murmured against his lips, her voice a sultry velvet purr that resonated with pure, unadulterated devotion. "The canopy has flourished under your sky, but the outer borders are growing restless."

"Elena informed us," Vince replied smoothly, keeping one arm around Moriele’s waist and his hand resting on Lyrielle’s shoulder. "The Null Expanse is leaking through."

Moriele nodded, her expression turning regal and focused. "Three hours ago, the eastern ward-trees began vibrating with foreign energy. Our scouts report seeing floating landmasses drifting near the veil—shattered continents from the wild void that were previously kept at bay by the Sovereigns’ arrays."

"They aren’t just drifting, Mother," Lyrielle added, her tone sharpening with tactical awareness that pleased both Vince and Moriele. "Something massive is moving behind the veil. The wild beasts in the eastern forest are migrating inward, running away from whatever is lurking in the void-fog."

Barnaby stepped forward, her bare feet hovering an inch above the ivory floorboards as she looked toward the eastern horizon. "It’s a Primordial Void-Siphon. A creature born from unshaped mana that feeds on decaying spatial borders. To your elven wards, it’s an apocalyptic disaster. To us... it’s an energy battery."

Vetra chuckled, resting her hand on the hilt of her broadsword. "So we go out there, kill the cosmic parasite, and take its core for Barnaby’s lotus?"

"Precisely," Vince said. He looked down at Lyrielle and Moriele. "Assemble your vanguard at the eastern wall, Moriele. Keep the elven border secure while we step outside."

"I am coming with you," Lyrielle declared instantly, her violet eyes flashing with fierce determination. She looked at her mother, then back at Vince. "I’ve spent the morning learning how to rule the Canopy, Vince. But my place is at your side when you carve out the new world. I won’t stay behind the wall like a fragile glass doll."

Moriele looked at her daughter, a deep, proud smile softening her majestic features. "She speaks the truth, Vince. She is ready. I will command the border defense from the Great Tree, but Lyrielle belongs in your vanguard."

Vince looked down at the young elven princess, taking in the sharp, resolute set of her jaw and the unwavering heat in her gaze. A faint, dark smirk touched his lips.

"Then grab your bow, Princess," Vince commanded quietly. "You’re breaking the veil with us."

An hour later, the strike group stood atop the colossal wooden ramparts of the Eastern Ward-Wall—the absolute edge of the known Elven Realm.

Behind them lay the peaceful, vibrant emerald forests of the First Canopy, living peacefully under Vince’s amethyst sky. Before them lay a terrifying, awe-inspiring sight that no living mortal had witnessed in six millennia.

The world simply... ended.

A massive, shimmering wall of grey distortion ran endlessly from north to south, cracking and splintering like brittle glass. Through the gaping fissures in the veil, the Null Expanse was visible—a lawless, boundless void filled with jagged, floating continents of dark crystal, rivers of glowing liquid mana drifting through zero gravity, and swirling storms of unshaped cosmic lightning.

The air bleeding through the cracks was cold, thin, and heavy with ancient, primordial pressure. It bore no law, no hierarchy, and no order.

ROOOOOAAAAAAR—!

A guttural, world-shaking roar echoed from the depths of the void-fog beyond the wall.

A colossal shape materialized within the grey mist—a massive, serpentine Void-Siphon stretching thousands of yards long. Its body was made of dark, crystalline armor plates, and its gaping maw burned with a concentrated, swirling vortex of black-and-gold energy as it coiled around a floating island, slowly crushing the ancient stone to extract its raw mana.

The elven guards along the wall trembled, their knuckles white on their bows as the oppressive, ancient aura washed over the ramparts.

"It’s massive..." Lyrielle breathed, her hand instinctively reaching out to grip Vince’s dark coat, though her eyes remained wide and clear of panic. "It’s completely immune to standard elemental magic... it’s eating the spatial fabric itself!"

"It eats law," Vince corrected softly, stepping up to the very edge of the wooden battlement. His coat billowed in the violent, void-touched wind. "Because it grew in a world where the Sovereigns’ law was absolute."

He reached out, his long fingers closing into a loose fist as his Inward Absolute Domain flared beneath his skin, radiating a deep, velvet warmth that instantly erased the cold void-pressure surrounding his party.

"Barnaby, Vetra, Lyrielle," Vince said, his voice quiet, calm, and echoing with absolute command. "We’re stepping outside the realm."

With a single step, Vince walked off the edge of the wall, stepping directly onto the empty air of the Null Expanse. Elena, Vetra, Barnaby, and Lyrielle followed without a moment’s hesitation, their boots landing on invisible platforms of dark-gold force as Vince extended his domain around them.

Behind them, the ancient elven wall faded into the distance. Ahead lay an unmapped, infinite void filled with ancient beasts, forgotten secrets, and raw cosmic power waiting to be claimed.

Vince looked out over the swirling expanse of shattered worlds, his amethyst eyes burning with dark, absolute ambition.

"Let’s see what the void has to offer," Vince murmured smoothly.
