My Taboo Harem!
Chapter 1294: Strange Subtle Awakening
Sienna’s expression changed.
The Great Immortal God elixir had been guided through Melissa according to formations carefully prepared before their arrival. Every meridian route had been accounted for. Every concentration of power possessed somewhere to travel.
As Melissa finally stopped suppressing her awakening, the dark-golden essence moving through her began to behave strangely.
One current should have followed a specific route yet it quietly shifted before reaching Melissa and entered through another path instead. A second stream did the same and when a heavier surge approached a weaker part of Melissa’s body, that weakness seemed to change before the energy reached it, allowing the power to pass without causing the damage Sienna had expected.
Sienna’s violet eyes narrowed.
She looked deeper but found nothing familiar taking shape. No obvious bloodline revealed itself, no element answered Melissa either, and no recognizable her power as a Ryujin Tiamat Dragon should be; Melissa had no cultivation base for Sienna to examine either. This was simply her first awakening finally being allowed to continue after years of suppression.
Yet something about it refused to unfold normally.
The more Sienna tried to follow where Melissa’s awakening was heading, the less certain the answer became. One possible pattern seemed ready to form before slipping away, while another changed before it could properly settle and the essence repeatedly adjusted because Melissa’s body kept responding before the dark-golden essence reached the places Sienna expected it to affect.
That caught Sienna’s attention far more than some spectacular burst of power would have.
Melissa’s awakening felt different in a way Sienna could not yet explain. Every attempt to determine what should happen next seemed to become less reliable the moment Melissa was involved.
Then the essence reached her womb and its behavior changed completely.
The stronger currents flowing through Melissa slowed before approaching the child, their dark-golden brilliance softening as the force behind them dispersed. They divided again and again until what had entered Melissa as powerful Great Immortal essence became countless threads so fine that even Sienna had to concentrate to follow them.
Those threads gathered around the unborn child without rushing inward.
They circled:
Waited:
Only the purest traces were drawn closer, entering little by little while everything too violent, too dense or simply unnecessary remained with Melissa instead.
Sienna watched with growing interest.
The baby’s developing body seemed to accept exactly what it could use and no more. The essence nourished the forming blood, the earliest meridian roots, the tiny growing organs and the still-delicate spiritual foundation without forcing any of them to develop ahead of their proper time.
More strangely, none of Melissa’s unpredictable awakening disturbed the child.
Around Melissa, routes changed before Sienna could predict them.
Around the baby, everything became strangely gentle.
Almost careful.
Melissa noticed Sienna watching and managed through the pain, "What?"
Sienna remained quiet for a moment before answering, "I don’t know yet."
Melissa’s brows lifted faintly. "You don’t?"
"No."
Another wave passed through her and Melissa tightened her grip around Sienna’s hand. Sienna steadied her until the pain eased, her eyes briefly returning to the dark-golden threads flowing toward the child.
"Whatever it is," she said softly, "let it wake."
The next surge gathered toward Melissa’s abdomen and her attention dropped immediately.
"The baby?"
"Safe," Sienna assured her.
Melissa searched her face. "You’re sure?"
Sienna nodded, watching another powerful current divide into hundreds of harmless golden threads before the tiniest portion disappeared into the child.
"Completely. Your body knows where to stop."
The Great Immortal essence around the baby remained astonishingly gentle.
Whatever strange changes were beginning inside Melissa did not disturb the developing life. If anything, the shifting pathways seemed to become calmer near her womb, every current dividing into finer and purer streams before approaching.
Melissa’s eyes remained on her stomach.
She felt tiny warmth answered beneath her palms, followed by the faintest pulse from somewhere impossibly small.
Melissa froze.
It was far too early for a kick or any movement she should have been able to feel, yet there had unquestionably been something there. Small, soft and alive.
Her face changed completely. "I felt something."
Sienna’s violet eyes softened. "I know."
Melissa laughed under her breath, and tears gathered almost immediately. For several breaths, the pain, the heat and even the ugly cloud of impurities hanging above the pool ceased to matter.
She stroked her stomach gently. "Your father is going to lose his mind."
Another wave of Great Immortal essence entered her body and pain tore through her strongly enough to drag a sharp cry from her lips. Sienna caught her immediately, one hand steadying Melissa while the other restrained the heaviest surge of medicinal power and divided it into gentler currents.
"Easy."
Melissa breathed through clenched teeth. "I’m trying."
"You’re still fighting your awakening."
"I know."
"Then stop."
Melissa gave her a strained look. "Bossy."
"Yes."
The tempering continued. More impurities were pulled from Melissa’s flesh, blood, marrow and organs, rising from her skin before the formation carried them safely away from the elixir. Her body gradually became cleaner and stronger beneath the repeated washing. Her bones drank in the purified essence, her marrow grew richer, her meridians were cleansed and strengthened for the power they would eventually carry, and several dormant accupoints quietly opened as her body was prepared for what came next.
Whenever the pain became excessive, Sienna interfered only enough to prevent needless injury. She never spared Melissa from the tempering itself.
Eventually Melissa stopped measuring the waves and she just endured them.
More importantly, she stopped instinctively forcing down the awakening that had tried to begin years ago. That old refusal had never been a cultivation seal, nor had Melissa spent years secretly accumulating power. She had simply prevented her first awakening from completing and then left whatever belonged to her sleeping ever since.
Now the Great Immortal essence was giving that sleeping power a second chance to rise.
Melissa felt the final hesitation inside herself.
Sienna felt it too.
Melissa opened her eyes and looked at her. "I’m ready."
Sienna nodded once. "Then let it happen."
Melissa stopped resisting.
The dark-golden pool surged; light rolled upward around her before collapsing back into the basin, while the purified Great Immortal essence rushed through her freshly tempered body and gathered around the awakening finally stirring properly for the first time.
Sienna’s attention sharpened.
Something was happening.
Yet even now, she could not tell what.
No familiar bloodline presence emerged. No element claimed Melissa. No recognizable constitution revealed itself, and there was still no cultivation base to measure because Melissa had only just allowed her awakening to begin.
What disturbed Sienna was subtler.
The essence behaved unpredictably around Melissa; currents shifted before reaching places where Sienna expected resistance. Pressure that should have strained one part of Melissa’s body found another path already waiting. Even the essence repeatedly corrected itself because Melissa refused to unfold exactly as they predicted.
Sienna watched quietly.
She had seen countless strange awakenings; this one gave her almost nothing to recognize and it wasn’t even that dramatic either. The harder she tried to understand where Melissa’s awakening was heading, the less certain that answer became.
Melissa’s hands returned to her stomach.
The child continued receiving the gentlest traces of purified Great Immortal essence from their mother while Melissa’s own awakening slowly rose around it.
Sienna looked at mother and child together and said nothing more.
There would be time to understand Melissa later.
Well, they knew what Melissa was, just not this soon, not before she was at least in a divine realm and yet here they were and it was stranger than what they all knew.
For now, waking was enough.
