Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Mo Jincuan’s Rekindled Hope

Gu Weilan looked at Mo Jincuan and gave a slight nod. "Thank you for coming all this way just to warn me."

Mo Jincuan opened his mouth. "I didn’t..."

Gu Weilan raised a hand, interrupting him. "Since it’s something we’ve already missed out on, I don’t think there’s any need to keep dwelling on it."

Mo Jincuan panicked. He had imagined this going so well. The only reason their match had been dissolved was because of a misunderstanding. The Female Master he had wanted to match and form a bond with had always been Gu Weilan. From the moment she saved him, he had wanted to become her Beast Husband. His forced cancellation of their match back then had only happened because he was misled by the Starlight Rabbit Clan’s network maintenance officers from Lorenzo Snow’s family.

After going through untold hardships, he had finally found Gu Weilan, only to discover that the Female Master the Beast God Matching System had originally assigned to him was the very one he had been searching high and low for. He felt this only proved further that he and Gu Weilan were destined to be together. Why was the outcome nothing like what he had expected?

Gu Weilan had come from the Apocalypse. She treated the interstellar Beast World as a place to rest, relax, and heal her mental trauma, but that didn’t mean she was stupid.

The few words Mo Jincuan had just spoken carried a faint underlying intention of urging her to seek out Xuanshuo. He had talked about "finding a way to make Xuanshuo shut up," but what way was that supposed to be? The interstellar Beast World had a relatively sound legal system. What could she possibly do? Since she couldn’t just kill him outright, did that mean she had to go see him?

Like hell she would.

What was all this about an Alliance of cancelled matches? Where had they been earlier? Now they wanted to play nice after the damage was done? It was like offering a cure after the patient was already dead, or locking the barn door after the horse had bolted.

Xuanshuo was a male who had tried to scam her out of her money the moment they met. Now he supposedly liked her because he discovered her true value? Give her a break. If she were completely worthless, would Xuanshuo have ever liked her? Wouldn’t he have just scammed her out of her Star Coins and run off? Why on earth would she like a male like that? Out of the over sixty billion males in the universe, she would have to be blind to zero in on a piece of trash. Did she look like a recycling center or a garbage can to them?

Then there was Mo Jincuan. His status didn’t seem low by any means, which was exactly why he had acted so fearlessly, failing to show her even the most basic respect by simply sending some trusted aide to cancel their match. Even Zhan Heng and Xie Jing had known to visit her in person to dissolve their bonds—that was the bare minimum of respect. It was fine not to want to be with someone or to be dissatisfied with the blind dates arranged by the Beast God Matching System, but parting ways amicably face-to-face was the least one could do.

Gu Weilan knew Mo Jincuan sounded entirely aggrieved, but was she the one who caused his grievances? No. So why should she have to pay the price for it?

Mo Jincuan felt they had missed their chance and that fate had played a cruel trick on him. He had run around in circles only to realize she was the one he had been looking for all along. Did he think that would move her?

Absolutely not. In her mind, Gu Weilan was firmly crossing her arms in rejection. Hadn’t he caused this wild goose chase himself? If only Mo Jincuan had come in person to cancel their match... True, she had been in a rush to run away at the time, and he had been lying there with his black hair covering his face. However, given her money-loving nature, she most likely would have asked if he had been to that park. After all, she wasn’t the type to do good deeds anonymously. Her philosophy was simple: she didn’t want anyone to discover her bad deeds, but if she did something good, the whole world needed to know so everyone could praise her for being a good person!

Therefore, if Mo Jincuan had shown her basic respect, none of this roundabout drama would have happened.

Setting down her teacup, Gu Weilan said softly, "You have already thanked me by converting the small favor of saving your life into Star Coins. With that, we are completely even."

Deep down, Mo Jincuan felt restless and anxious. He didn’t want them to be even. What he wanted was the amazing Female Master the Beast God Matching System had given him. He just sat there, refusing to leave. He felt that if he walked out the door now, it would be extremely difficult to find another excuse to appear in Gu Weilan’s life again.

The Silver-spotted Cat and the Bald Chicken, which had just grown some fluff, wobbled over to Gu Weilan’s feet. The Silver-spotted Cat hissed at Mo Jincuan, looking as if it shared its master’s enmity, practically telling the nuisance to leave.

The little chick, now sporting golden-orange fluff, also chirped at him. "CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP!"

Zhan Heng held the Incubation Pod in one arm and rested his other elbow on the armrest of the sofa. He rubbed his lips with his fingers, his chin slightly raised as he stared at Mo Jincuan. Although he didn’t say a word, he made absolutely no effort to hide the unwelcoming look on his face.

Not to mention Lorenzo. He was just waiting to put on the collection sleeve tonight to see if he could successfully conceive in one fell swoop.

Shi Lingfeng, on the other hand, didn’t show much of a reaction. The rumor his family had previously spread about his Grandma being on her deathbed had actually been a trap to bait out their enemies. Now that his Grandma knew she was pregnant, his great-grandmother insisted that Grandma bring her along to visit, and they would be arriving next week.

He had no desire to make enemies out of Beastmen like Priests. The authority of a Priest extended far beyond merely Engraving for a Beastman; Priests excelled at divination. Before reaching the Tenth Rank, they could perform a divination once a year, and after reaching the Tenth Rank, they could perform it once a month.

Mo Jincuan was wearing a robe bearing the insignia of a Priest, and a Junior Priest badge was pinned to his chest. Privately, Shi Lingfeng actually thought that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea if his Female Master took Mo Jincuan as her Beast Husband. While Beast Clans provided massive backing for Beast Husbands, a Junior Priest was backed not only by his Beast Clan, but also by the power of the Priests. That was a force that could not be underestimated. ℯ

After a moment of silence, Shi Lingfeng finally spoke up. "Mr. Mo Jincuan, I see that the badge on your chest belongs to a Junior Priest. I imagine you have quite a lot of Priest-related affairs to attend to. How about you head back for now?

"Our Female Master has to host her professor this afternoon to discuss some matters. Apologies for our poor hospitality this time; we’ll be sure to host you properly another day."

After all, phrases like "let’s eat together next time" or "let’s hang out next time" were highly flexible polite excuses. If there were benefits to be had, there would genuinely be a "next time." If not, it was just a pleasantry to show that they hadn’t completely fallen out.

Mo Jincuan lowered his eyes, immediately figuring a few things out. He could apply for a transfer to swap positions with the Priest at the Central Beastman Academy!

He didn’t care. He had lost such a wonderful Female Master, and it was entirely his own fault. So what else could he do but try to win her back? He had set his heart on Gu Weilan, so he just needed to put in the effort to win his Female Master back. He had simply let his anxiety cloud his judgment earlier. Now that he had a clear goal, he could calm down and take things one step at a time, slowly letting Gu Weilan see his good qualities.

Upon hearing Shi Lingfeng’s words, Lorenzo didn’t show any more obvious hostility either. As long as this guy didn’t interfere with his recent efforts to conceive, Mo Jincuan’s status as a Junior Priest was indeed a force to be reckoned with.

Zhan Heng, however, kept his chin held high. He hated anyone who tried to leave a mark in Gu Weilan’s heart, no matter who they were! He was ready to bulldoze every other Beastman, treating them all with equal hostility!

Having figured out the direction of his future efforts, Mo Jincuan stood up like a perfect gentleman. Placing his right hand over his left chest, he bowed to Gu Weilan and took his leave.

After Mo Jincuan left, the Pharmacy professor actually arrived!

His face was flushed red with excitement, and the moment he saw Gu Weilan, tears welled up in his eyes.

Gu Weilan couldn’t help but lean her head back in a slight tactical retreat. What was with the professor acting like he had just found his long-lost daughter?
