Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Battle for the First Beast Husband Has Always Been This Way

Michelle was still dying to know who those three males were that had forced the cancellation of their matches with the female Gu Weilan. How could they be so brave? To cancel a match with a female of such high aptitude? It completely went against Beastman logic!

Putting everything else aside, just looking at Gu Weilan’s aptitude—a month ago, she was still at the Fourth Rank, though she quickly reached the Fifth Rank shortly after. But after forming a bond, she immediately shot up to the Seventh Rank! Michelle, Zhuoma, and Liu Ruoxi suspected that Gu Weilan had likely even awakened a Talent Skill. After all, they considered their own aptitudes to be quite good, yet Gu Weilan’s was obviously far superior to theirs.

Furthermore, they could see that Gu Weilan’s black-haired Beast Husband, her Eighth Rank Beast Husband with medium-short brown hair, and her beige-blonde Beast Husband had already completed their Engraving. However, she still had a Ninth Rank Beast Husband who hadn’t completed his Engraving yet! This meant that once the female Gu Weilan formed a bond with all her Beast Husbands, it was entirely possible for her to promote to the Eighth Rank.

They had heard their Mothers say that only females with top-tier aptitudes would receive a massive energy feedback when leaving a mark within their Beast Husband’s Spiritual Sea. For those with poorer aptitudes, receiving only a thirtieth or a fiftieth of the energy feedback was also a common occurrence.

Seeing that Gu Weilan didn’t want Liu Ruoxi to reveal the names of the three Beast Husbands who had canceled their matches, Michelle’s gossipy heart refused to die as she explained, "Lanlan, you might not know this, but if a male refuses to even go on the legally mandated three dates and directly cancels the match, the fine he has to pay is four-fifths of his total assets. Unless he secretly transferred all his assets beforehand, it’s an absolute hemorrhage of wealth.

"And if a male risks such consequences just to cancel the match, that money will only be reallocated to places like orphanages and nursing homes. Not a single cent will go to the Female Master whose engagement was broken off.

"For a female, this is an incredibly humiliating loss of face. After all, there are plenty of ways to resolve the matter through peaceful negotiation.

"This forced cancellation leaves a mark on both of their records. When the Beast God Matching System arranges the next match, it will take this factor into consideration, meaning the Beastmen assigned to both parties will have lower aptitudes than those in the first batch.

"It’s a method that cuts off one’s nose to spite one’s face. Usually, a Beast Husband would only do something like this if the Female Master was abusing him during the matching period." Michelle cast a subtle glance at Gu Weilan.

Gu Weilan shrugged. "I agreed to one of the cancellations. In fact, I was the one who clicked ’cancel’ first. All we had to do was wait for him to clock in for the three dates, and then he could just click confirm to cancel the match. I don’t know what happened this time...

"As for the other two, I haven’t even met them, and they never sent any Beastman to negotiate the matter with me."

Liu Ruoxi waved her hand dismissively. "In situations like this, the Beast God Matching System will weigh the circumstances accordingly. What’s more interesting is your fourth message. It was sent by the Beast God System, telling you to go to the Beast God Matching Center again in four months... Does this mean that more than half of your matched Beast Husbands have been canceled, Lanlan?"

She wondered why that would be the case. Frowning, Gu Weilan hurriedly opened her Light Brain again. This time, however, she turned off the screen-sharing function. Now, only she could see what was displayed on her projection.

That Ninth Rank Water Element male from the Mermaid Clan named Samuel Riel... his profile picture had gone black?

Only then did she begin to count them up carefully. Mo Jincuan, who had sent his trusted aide over, was the first Beast Husband who prompted her to click to cancel the match. The second was Xie Jing. The third was Ji Yanqing, that Ninth Rank Fox Clan male who had used that nauseating vocal fry to purposefully drawl out "Ba-by~," scaring her into hurriedly clicking to cancel the match. The fourth was Bai Yanli of the White Tiger Clan. And the fifth was Rong Hua Jin of the Vermilion Bird Clan.

She still hadn’t clicked to cancel the match with Lu Xuyin.

She thought, "Could it be that Samuel Riel’s blackened profile picture means our match has been canceled by default?"

When Gu Weilan looked up again, she said to Liu Ruoxi, "I didn’t notice that one of my matched Beast Husbands... had his profile picture go black. So maybe that counts as having more than half of my matches canceled."

Zhuoma had been listening quietly the whole time, only interjecting occasionally to show she was part of the group, but this time, she couldn’t help but speak up first. "Perhaps this Beast Husband of yours, Lanlan, got into an accident while guarding the frontlines... My condolences..."

Looking at Zhuoma’s slightly reddened eyes, Gu Weilan guessed that Zhuoma might also have a father or brother on the frontlines, and perhaps one of them had met with misfortune.

Gu Weilan shook her head slightly. "Two of the Beast Husbands on my previous match list had the same situation. Their profile pictures went black for a day or two, then lit up again. I’ll just wait and see."

Michelle blinked, and Liu Ruoxi shrank her neck back. She had originally wanted to respect the female Gu Weilan’s privacy and not mention the names of the three Beast Husbands she had seen. But with the female Gu Weilan saying that, Michelle and Zhuoma had likely already guessed who they were.

Michelle’s mind raced. There weren’t many Beastmen on the entire Star Network who had recently faced a life-threatening crisis and were also individuals that Liu Ruoxi would remain tight-lipped and secretive about, right?

Liu Ruoxi was very eager to build a good relationship with Gu Weilan. She hurriedly pulled Gu Weilan aside and started asking questions about plant identification and cultivation, drawing everyone’s attention away from the matter of Gu Weilan’s matched Beast Husbands.

After two point-to-point warp jumps, everyone finally arrived at Kh023 Star in the afternoon.

Gu Weilan looked at Zhan Heng in confusion. "Didn’t they say that Kh023 Star is really far away from Central Star?"

Zhan Heng naturally took Gu Weilan’s hand, leading her along as he offered a slight smile and answered in his deep, resonant, and magnetic voice, "Female Master, point-to-point warp jumps exist precisely to solve this problem. It folds the extreme distance between Kh023 Star and Central Star."

Gu Weilan only half-understood, but since she had no intention of becoming a scientist, she didn’t press for further details.

Zhan Heng, however, gently scratched the center of Gu Weilan’s palm with his finger. "I’ll be standing guard right by your side in a moment. You don’t need to worry, I will protect you well."

Gu Weilan’s ears turned bright red—so much so that she could completely ignore the scent of rotting eggplants hanging in the air of Kh023 Star.

Michelle, Zhuoma, and Liu Ruoxi secretly observed the interaction between Gu Weilan and Zhan Heng with bright, sparkling eyes.

They couldn’t help but exchange meaningful glances to pass messages back and forth.

"Is this the female Gu Weilan’s First Beast Husband?" Michelle’s eyes seemed to ask.

"Maybe?" Zhuoma’s expression replied.

"Not sure, let’s keep watching," Liu Ruoxi’s gaze signaled.

Lorenzo Snow took a chubby, cartoon-rabbit-shaped thermos cup for cubs out of his Space Button. He pressed the little rabbit’s nose, and a soft straw popped out from one of the lop-eared rabbit’s folded ears.

He offered the straw to Gu Weilan. "Lanlan, drink some water."

Reaching out, he gently brushed the back of his index finger against Gu Weilan’s lower lip. "They aren’t as hydrated as before. If they get too dry, they’ll start to peel."

Gu Weilan was thankful that the temperature on Kh023 Star hadn’t dropped to minus thirty degrees, otherwise her head would have been burning so hot it would be smoking!

After all, back when they were in bed, Lorenzo had pressed his thumb against her lips and murmured low in her ear, "Female Master’s lips... are so hydrated. Lips that have been kissed by the Female Master seem to become just as hydrated. Does the Female Master... want another taste?"

She internally screamed in embarrassment. Lorenzo was definitely doing this on purpose! He absolutely was!
