Chapter 118: Chapter 118: That Won’t Do

Mo Jincuan had caught wind of Gu Weilan’s upcoming banquet, and naturally, he wanted to attend. Yet Xuanshuo, banking on the tiny bit of "favor" he had earned by helping him out, actually wanted to tag along.

Mo Jincuan couldn’t help but sneer. "I can’t even catch the Weilan Female’s eye myself. I begged to be rematched with her, and even then, I couldn’t secure the first place.

"Who does Xuanshuo think he is? How dare he try to guilt-trip me with some so-called favor that was already settled as a clean business transaction?"

Mo Jincuan was still racking his brains, trying to figure out how to get into Gu Weilan’s villa to attend the banquet.

Meanwhile, the subject of his thoughts, Gu Weilan, was currently recording the fluctuating data of Xie Jing’s Incubation Pod.

Currently, she had over 600,000 points from the cubs born to Zhan Heng and Shi Lingfeng. Furthermore, there was the Cultivation Liquid factory owned by the academy, as well as a small Cultivation Liquid factory established under Zhan Heng’s name, which was jointly controlled by Gu Weilan and the other two. The Cultivation Liquid sold by these two factories had successfully assisted the Incubation Pods in safely delivering healthy cubs free from Genetic Collapse Syndrome. Following its rules, the system had issued corresponding reward points to Gu Weilan. Combined, these two streams of points amounted to an impressive 30,000-plus.

With so many points in hand, she naturally upgraded Xie Jing to the High-grade Culture Fluid without hesitation. This meant that Xie Jing’s Incubation Pod had now been supplemented with basic Cultivation Liquid, Mid level Cultivation Fluid, and High-grade Culture Fluid.

Of course, Gu Weilan had purchased all the related formulas: the Mid level Cultivation Fluid formula for 1,000 points, the High-grade Culture Fluid formula for 5,000 points, the Ancestor Reversion Culture Fluid formula for 10,000 points, and the Qualification Enhancement Culture Fluid formula for 6,000 points.

In any case, since she had the points now, she figured she might as well buy all these essential formulas first before finding a way to expand the Spiritual Spring Eye in her spatial dimension. After all, she valued her own cubs more. If a few more of her cubs possessed atavistic bloodlines, wouldn’t earning even more points be as easy as pie?

It was better not to upgrade all the patents to the maximum level at once. If she progressed too quickly, her own academic knowledge wouldn’t be able to keep up, making it extremely difficult to explain where these inventions came from. And she certainly didn’t want to end up sliced open as a test subject.

After Xie Jing’s Incubation Pod was infused with the Mid level Cultivation Fluid and High-grade Culture Fluid, it became obvious that he no longer needed to channel such massive amounts of energy into it!

Xie Jing stole a glance at Gu Weilan, whom he had been seeing every day and chatting with frequently as of late. A hint of flattery tinged his voice as he said, "Female Master, the cubs have been moving around a lot these past couple of days."

Gu Weilan looked puzzled.

Xie Jing turned to Zhan Heng, who was standing nearby, and asked curiously, "Did Brother’s cubs not move around a lot during their later stages in the Incubation Pod?"

Zhan Heng shook his head. "No, only occasionally. But every time I wanted to call the Female Master over to take a look, they would stop moving."

Xie Jing opened his mouth, just about to say something, when the Incubation Pod suddenly emitted a rippling SPLASH.

Gu Weilan’s eyes widened. "Is this... is this what you meant by moving around a lot?"

Xie Jing hurriedly nodded, the tips of his ears flushing red. He gazed at Gu Weilan with sparkling silver-gray eyes. "They’ve been moving like this a lot lately. I was worried—is it time for them to come out?"

Gu Weilan furrowed her brow slightly. It had only been a little over six months. She remembered Pomegranate Seed mentioning that cubs nurtured with the system’s Cultivation Liquid would stay in the Incubation Pod for a bit longer. She shook her head. "I’d prefer they stay in there a bit longer. Look, it’s highly likely that two of them are female cubs, and their bloodlines are continuously becoming purer. You shouldn’t be too anxious."

Xie Jing pursed his lips and looked at Gu Weilan. "It would be wonderful if there were a female cub from the Mole Clan. I noticed that the bloodline concentration of one of the female cubs is neck-and-neck between the Mole Clan and the Dolphin Clan. I only hope she turns out to be a Mole Clan cub, just like you, Female Master."

Gu Weilan’s pupils dilated slightly in shock. To be honest, she had transformed into her Beast Form before. Perhaps some people might like little moles, but she really... she thought moles were only cute in cartoons. Turning into a real mole herself was one thing to simply write off. Having her own cub belong to the Mole Clan... that was a hard pass, too! No, no, no, they were far too ugly! She would much rather the cub turn out to be from the Dolphin Clan! Seriously!

Zhan Heng, however, frowned slightly and looked at Gu Weilan. "Female Master, what do you plan to do if the little cub really is from the Dolphin Clan?"

Gu Weilan turned her head in astonishment. "Darling, do you have some sort of misunderstanding about me? Even if she is from the Dolphin Clan, she’s still my cub!"

Did she look like some unforgivably evil female to them? Someone who wouldn’t even love her own cub, or who would do something terrible to them? She was so gentle; how could she ever do such a thing!

Zhan Heng raised an eyebrow, revealing a helpless smile as he gently pinched Gu Weilan’s cheek. "Lanlan, what I mean is, how are we going to raise a dolphin cub? When Dolphin Clan cubs are young, they need to soak in seawater frequently. They live in a mermaid-like Half-beastman state for a period of time.

"What I wanted to ask is, are you planning to hand the cub over to Sairiel to take back to the Siren Sea Area and have the Sea Clan look after her, or should we build a seawater pool right here in our own home?"

Gu Weilan’s eyes lit up. "Let’s build a seawater pool!"

If she could raise her own little mermaid cub, why would she hand her over for other Beastmen to take care of? She absolutely didn’t do this just because she wanted to look at a cute little mermaid cub—she was simply brimming with maternal love.

Zhan Heng knew better than to point it out.

Xie Jing had also caught on—his Female Master seemingly didn’t like her own Beast Clan. But it made sense when he thought about it. He had heard from his brother that the Female Master had actually had her heart’s blood gouged out by Gu Yaoqing, her own biological brother. Presumably, she harbored immense resentment toward the entire Mole Clan because of that incident, which was why she disliked them so much.

Zhan Heng took the Incubation Pod from Xie Jing’s arms. Although the Incubation Pod now required only half the energy it used to, it still wasn’t something Xie Jing, an Eleventh Rank Beastman, could easily handle on his own. With Zhan Heng helping to channel energy, Xie Jing’s gaunt and emaciated cheeks finally showed slight signs of recovery.

Carrying the Incubation Pod, Zhan Heng led Gu Weilan and Xie Jing to the nursery.

The Qilin cubs were a bit older than the Gray Wolf cubs, but they still loved playing together. None of them had grown teeth yet, but they still loved to run around gnawing on everything with their toothless mouths.

Gu Weilan cuddled the little cubs, feeling as though she was raising a bunch of fluffy little animals. Sometimes, when she started snuggling and sniffing the cubs, time would slip away without her even realizing it.

The nanny robots were only useful when it came to feeding them milk juice; otherwise, there was nothing to worry about on a daily basis.

Zhan Heng watched as Gu Weilan began acting like a wicked Mother again. She always liked pinning the cubs on their backs just to watch them struggle with all their might to flip over. Unfortunately, the cubs were too chubby, and their legs were too short. Since they hadn’t yet learned how to balance or adjust their center of gravity, they could only lie there like overturned turtles, their four little paws paddling helplessly in the air as they whimpered and whined. And Gu Weilan was absolutely obsessed with this game.

Zhan Heng had wanted to stop her at first, but later decided to just let it go. Let her do as she pleased. She was the cubs’ Mother—what bad intentions could she possibly have?

Therefore, every time they saw Gu Weilan coming over, the three elders of the Shi Family would excuse themselves. The three Shi Family elders truly couldn’t bear to watch this spectacle. They couldn’t scold her, but they also couldn’t stand the sight of it. Aside from retreating to their own rooms to avoid watching, what else could they do?

Wanting Gu Weilan to spend more time with the cubs, Zhan Heng had no choice but to turn a blind eye to her little antics as she played with the cubs to her heart’s content.

He suggested softly, "Our banquet will be held on the lawn behind the villa, set up buffet-style with several long tables filled with food.

"I really hope that Xie Jing’s litter can wait until after our banquet three days from now to be born. That way, once the banquet is over, we can build a much larger seawater pool in the backyard."

Gu Weilan frowned. "That won’t work."
