My System Forces Me to Live off Women
Chapter 793 - 424: New Year’s Eve Group Chat (Part 2)
"Just so happens I’ve been indecisive about the baby’s name. I don’t really like the ones Xiaofeng and my parents suggested... How about I give you the right to name it?"
Zhao Qingge’s face turned dark, and her first reaction was a sarcastic cold laugh, as an unstoppable thought popped out: "Didn’t you want the baby to take your last name? Just name him ’Gambling, Drugs, and Vice’."
Huang Tianxuan was so angry that she sat up, full of resentment: "Zhao Qingge, I’m warning you, even jokes have a limit! I’ve even called you Sister, and I’m giving you the right to name my child, and this is your attitude?!"
"And what kind of attitude do you expect me to have?"
Li Peifeng: "Both of you, say less, say less!"
As the "remote argument" continued, Li Peifeng tried to mediate while making dumplings, barely responding to his parents, but soon, his phone beeped with another WeChat notification.
Xu Manning: "(Hubby, what are you doing? Cat picture.jpg)"
Li Peifeng was delighted: "Perfect timing, come help me mediate, two pregnant women are quarreling."
After sending the reply, Li promptly dragged the unsuspecting Xu Manning into the fray.
Xu Manning: "What’s going on... my goodness, why should I intervene in your quarrels? Why should I help you mediate?"
Thrust into the situation without understanding it, Xu Manning’s brain froze for half a second as she sensed the various thoughts from the three. But as soon as Huang Tianxuan noticed the ’newcomer,’ she immediately sought help: "Manning, help me scold her, I kindly asked her to name my child, and she came up with ’Gambling, Drugs, Vice’!!"
Xu Manning: "Hahaha."
Huang Tianxuan: "You laughed? Was it accidental or on purpose?!!"
Xu Manning: "No, my first reaction was uncontrollable, that name... um, it’s too much! Xiaoge, how could you?"
Zhao Qingge: "I’ll do whatever I want, both of you shut up!"
Xu Manning: "Already quiet, but you can still hear me, huh, irritating?"
Huang Tianxuan: "Drive yourself crazy! Can’t take it? Hang up yourself, no need to always ask Peifeng to hang up, you can exit on your own."
Zhao Qingge: "Do you not want Peifeng’s parents to go to Hangzhou? If you don’t, just say so, I can make that happen."
Miss Xu stirred the pot after entering, making the argument more intense.
Li Peifeng felt quite helpless, thinking over and over again, he instinctively contacted Wu Wenyue, both to see what she was doing and to try using her presence to shift their attention and calm the dispute.
Although his experience in creating a group chat reminded him this would make the ’network’ crowded, and everyone’s thoughts chaotic, on the last day of the year, a little commotion was enjoyable too.
Besides, since several of them couldn’t sit face-to-face for various reasons, at least they could be connected in spirit!
"Huh?! Who the hell wants to connect spiritually with you?!"
Wu Wenyue was startled: "I was setting off fireworks just fine... Are you having a meeting?"
Huang Tianxuan: "Another one joins, oh, the fireworks look good, Wenyue don’t move, keep that view! Hmm, I want to lie in bed to watch, comfy!"
Xu Manning: "Is this the square in front of your house? It’s lively, lots of people setting off fireworks, the person next to you is your sister, right... got any firecrackers? Set some off for me to see."
Zhao Qingge silently picked up her guitar, resentfully thinking, you want to watch? I’ll show you nothing!!
Wu Wenyue: "No way... my head’s about to burst, Sister Zhao, stop for a bit, I just got here, not used to it yet!"
Zhao Qingge: "Tell him to cut it off, Li Peifeng, disconnect it all!"
Li Peifeng: "No one watching TV? Then I’ll sing you a song... the past scenes reappear~ though the lotus roots are broken there’s still a connection~ lightly sighing for the changing world ... love the rivers and mountains~ love the beauty more..."
Wu Wenyue: "Damn, what is this new style of mental torture? You bastard, watch closely, this firecracker is meant to blow you up, I’ll blow you to pieces!!"
Xu Manning: "Stop singing, this song is older than me! Change it!"
Huang Tianxuan: "If you don’t sound good singing here, why not listen to you sing in person."
Li Peifeng: "Then I’ll recite a poem for you, listen carefully... I love you, I love you at six in the morning in the dim light; I love you, I love you at eight in the morning on the bus; I love you, I love you at ten in the morning with the keyboard clattering; I love you, I love you at noon in the noise; I love you, I love you at six in the evening in the twilight; I love you, I love you on New Year’s Eve amidst the glowing lights and firecrackers..."
After a silent 0.1 second, Zhao Qingge firmly thought, "Wenyue, continue with the fireworks."
Huang Tianxuan, Xu Manning: "Agree."
Wu Wenyue: "Here it comes, here comes a big one for him... boom~ boom~~"
So lively, so chaotic!
Before the Spring Festival Gala even started, they were scattered in different states across the country, thousands of kilometers apart, but putting on a skit in their hearts.
But isn’t this a kind of extraordinary, unrelated-to-romance kind of romance?
They grew up in different family environments, never experienced the same thing, had different appearances and contrasting personalities, even watching a sunset could leave them with completely different feelings.
Yet these entirely independent individuals can share their feelings with one another, anytime, through that man as a medium. Perhaps they contradict and argue over many issues but also move closer for understanding, borrowing each other’s eyes to view the stars and fireworks, discerning the beauty of the world together.
Just like an astronomer, without any thrifty compensation, enjoys spending nights on a mountaintop, gazing through a telescope at stars that seem to shine but vanished millions of years ago.
People feel immensely satisfied in the vastness and infinity, fear, and awe under the universe’s unknown mystery; as well as find peace in the empathy and understanding when spirits are connected among others, realizing how truly fortunate and strange it is to experience each other’s existence and to journey hand in hand within this tiny planet.
But it’s a pity... one is missing.
Li Peifeng tried his best to hide his regretful little thought while chatting with the four ladies for over two hours, sharing each other’s perspectives and feelings about the New Year, until they had dinner, and his dumplings were nearly ready before he disconnected.
"Dinnertime, dinnertime, Fengfeng, turn on the TV... even if you don’t watch the Spring Gala, listen to the sounds."
"Okay."
The moment he pressed the remote, Li Peifeng felt the vibrations from a WeChat message notification.
He Yimeng: "Who are you, why are you my contact?"
Li Peifeng took advantage of going to the kitchen to get vinegar to sneak a look at the screen, suppressed his laughter, didn’t reply, and directly connected with He Yimeng.
"Happy New Year~ Mengmeng!"
He Yimeng was playing mahjong with her siblings, seemingly losing a lot, not in a very good mood, as she threw out an eight wan, and replied with a cold sneer in her heart: "Not happy, is that okay?"
Li Peifeng: "Not allowed, how about this, let me recite a poem for you; I love you, at six in the morning in the dim light..."
"Hu, eight wan, haha, Sister Meng you got dumped again."
"Pay up, pay up."
He Yimeng paused for a moment and then changed from her previous displeasure, smiling as she took out a couple of bills from the drawer and placed them on the table: "Continue!"
The little girl who won seemed puzzled: "Why are you so happy after losing money, sis, you had a sullen face just now."
He Yimeng raised her eyebrows slightly, a pretty arc forming at her lips: "Just some scoundrel making me laugh... come on, continue!"
