My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 471: Asking for Help
Chapter 471: Chapter 471: Asking for Help
After hearing his girlfriend’s words, the man offered a few words of encouragement, then set his phone aside and looked toward the office across the hall.
Jane looked a little lost, but hearing what her boyfriend said and remembering his position, she ultimately chose to trust him.
Jane’s parents noticed her expression and tugged on her arm. "What’s wrong?" they asked.
"It’s nothing. Let’s just wait," Jane said, choosing not to explain the situation to her parents. Instead, she decided to wait for news.
’If her boyfriend couldn’t come through, at least they wouldn’t have to share in the disappointment.’
Meanwhile, Jane’s boyfriend stood up. Under the curious gazes of his colleagues, he walked over to the adjacent office and knocked on the door.
Sean Hughes, who was still at her desk finishing a report, looked up. She was a little surprised to see who it was. "Cameron? What’s up?"
’Isn’t Cameron from Team Two? What’s he doing here at this hour? Does he need something?’
Cameron scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Ms. Hughes," he said, "I was hoping you and your team could help me with something."
The few other people still in the office looked up at Cameron, their expressions tinged with curiosity.
"Come on in, have a seat," Sean Hughes said, patting the chair beside her.
After taking a seat, Cameron began hesitantly, "Ms. Hughes, I know your team has... special ways of finding people. An elderly woman from my girlfriend’s village went missing last night.
She has Alzheimer’s. The entire village, the local police, and even a volunteer rescue team have been searching all day, but they haven’t found a single clue.
It’s very mountainous out there, and everyone’s worried she might have fallen into a ravine or a crevice. She doesn’t have a phone, so we fear the worst. That’s why I wanted to ask if you and your team could... help find her."
As he finished, Cameron’s expression turned apologetic.
’It’s a bit out of line, showing up this late to ask for help, especially when it’s for something outside our jurisdiction.’
But when he thought about the situation Jane had described, Cameron couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.
Team One was mysterious, but their offices were right across from each other. No matter how secretive they tried to be, Cameron had picked up on a few things over time.
So he came over to ask, figuring it was a long shot, but worth a try.
’If they could help, that would be amazing. If not, well, at least he tried.’
Sean Hughes considered it for a moment before replying, "Hang on. I can’t give you a definitive answer just yet."
After all, Zoe Sawyer would be the one doing the heavy lifting. Sean couldn’t just agree to it without consulting her first.
Still, Sean had a feeling that Zoe wouldn’t refuse. Based on Cameron’s description, it didn’t seem like a particularly difficult task.
With that, Sean picked up her phone, typed out a summary of the situation, and sent it to Zoe Sawyer.
Less than a minute later, she received an "OK" emoji in reply.
Sean Hughes breathed a long sigh of relief. She looked at Cameron and said, "Send me the woman’s information. Then just wait for an update."
Hearing her answer, Cameron shot up from his chair and rushed back to his desk.
The others left in the office exchanged glances. Someone whispered, "Is this really okay?"
"It’s fine," Sean reassured them. "Zoe is handling it from her dorm. We’re communicating by phone, so he won’t be exposed to anything."
Besides, an elderly woman’s life was at stake. Neither Zoe Sawyer nor Sean Hughes could simply stand by and do nothing.
If they were in a position to help, they felt they had to.
"Jane, send me the missing person flyer!" Cameron said into his phone, his voice urgent. The call was still connected.
On the other end of the line, Jane quickly took a picture of the flyer and sent it to him.
The moment Cameron received it, he forwarded it to Sean Hughes.
In her dorm room, Zoe Sawyer stood by a door, her eyes fixed on her phone. She opened the message from Sean Hughes and memorized the basic information.
Hayden Shaw moved to Zoe’s side, standing by in case she was needed.
They didn’t know what the situation would be on the other side. To ensure Zoe’s safety, Hayden decided that once the door was open, she would be the one to go through and search.
The missing person flyer had all the essential information, including a photo. Less than a minute later, Zoe Sawyer opened the door.
The view through the doorway revealed a dense, mountainous forest. Not far from the door, a figure was curled up at the base of a tree, partially covered by branches and fallen leaves.
Tall trees blocked out the moonlight, and the surroundings were completely silent. The slightest movement created a soft RUSTLING sound.
"You think that could be her? The missing woman?" Zoe asked, pointing to the huddled shape as she turned to Hayden Shaw.
Hayden Shaw stared at the figure. "Could be," she said, nodding. "Can you move the door closer? I want to get a better look.
If it’s her, we can pinpoint the location and have her family go get her."
Zoe nodded and manipulated the door, moving it until it was right next to the target.
Bathed in the light spilling from their dorm room, Zoe and Hayden could now see the person clearly.
An elderly woman in a thin coat was curled into a ball. Her face was smudged with dirt, and her hands, still clutching a small branch, were covered in tiny scratches. It was clear she had fallen several times.
The woman’s eyes were squeezed shut and her brow was furrowed. She was muttering something under her breath, as if calling out a name.
Her voice was too faint for Zoe and Hayden to make out the words.
"That’s her," Zoe said. "She’s alive. Quick, get a fix on the location and send the exact address to Sean."
Hayden didn’t waste a second. She held out her phone, extending her hand through the doorway. She successfully sent the GPS coordinates to Sean Hughes, along with a description of the surroundings and the woman’s current condition.
After receiving the message, Sean Hughes read it carefully and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She forwarded the information to Cameron, adding a strict reminder: "This is just for you. Don’t say anything more about how you got it."
Cameron looked at the information on his phone and nodded excitedly. "I get it! Don’t worry, Ms. Hughes!"
He then quickly forwarded the details to his girlfriend, Jane. "I had someone help me with this," he said. "It’s a highly credible lead. You guys need to go get her right away!"
Jane stared at the GPS coordinates, her brow furrowed. ’Is this for real?’
’He’s never even been here, so how could he have found this?’
Before Jane could sort out her thoughts, she saw Faye Hughes walking over.
"Oh, Jane, you’re still here? You should stop waiting. Take your parents home and get some rest.
You’ve all worked so hard today," Faye Hughes said, her eyes red and swollen with exhaustion.
Jane’s mother sighed. "We’re all neighbors here. It’s the least we can do. We’ll keep searching tomorrow. We’ll start earlier and look farther out. We’ll find her eventually."
"Mrs. Holloway," Jane interrupted, "I might have a lead. But... I can’t be sure if it’s real."
