Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Incredible Good News

Zoe Sawyer patted her chest and said, "It’s no big deal. Chief, just give me the exact address, and then you can come with me."

’After all, this is a case for the local police department, and I can’t just bring my own colleagues over.’

’The best way is to take the chief directly, so he can witness the entire process of digging up the evidence.’

The chief understood what Zoe Sawyer meant and didn’t refuse.

After getting the approximate location from Suspect Number One, Zoe Sawyer quickly positioned the door around the tree she mentioned.

Zoe Sawyer didn’t let Evan Keller and the others go out right away. She cautiously maneuvered the door to scan the surroundings. Only after confirming no one was around did she fix the door in place near the most likely tree.

Evan Keller and Monkey went out first. Following the location given by Suspect Number One, they compared it with the surroundings and finally locked their target on a tree diagonally opposite them.

"Go dig over there and see. We might find something," Evan Keller said, pointing into the distance.

Monkey didn’t ask why. He just picked up the shovel and walked over, with the chief following close behind.

After deducing the approximate location of the buried evidence, the three men put their backs into it and quickly dug a pit half a meter deep.

"Keep digging. See if there’s anything hidden deeper," the chief said, wiping the sweat from his forehead as he looked at the pit before them.

’If you want to hide something, you have to bury it deep. But at that time, the three of them were in the middle of delivering the kidnapped children and young women to the buyers.’

’They were in a hurry and probably didn’t have tools like shovels with them. A hole the three women dug with whatever they could find wouldn’t be very deep.’

Sure enough, after digging another ten-plus centimeters, a black wooden box appeared before the three men.

The chief, wearing gloves, leaned over the edge of the pit and pulled out the wooden box from inside.

"Got it! Let’s go. We’ll head back and see what kind of evidence is in here!" the chief exclaimed, his voice tinged with excitement.

Evan Keller and Monkey filled the hole back in. After making sure they hadn’t left anything behind, they followed the chief through the door and back to the police station.

Inside the wooden box was a handwritten ledger. It recorded when, where, and how many people the three women had trafficked, as well as who they were sold to and for how much.

It was a known fact that a significant number of the children trafficked by Mrs. Redding had never been found.

They were too young when they were abducted to remember where their homes were.

Even if they later realized they had been trafficked, without memories of their early childhood, finding their birth parents was next to impossible.

But now, this ledger was undoubtedly a crucial piece of information.

With it, they could follow the clues inside and finally find those children.

"This is fantastic! With this, not only can we convict these three, but we can also rescue the remaining victims!" The chief pointed to the signatures and fingerprints of Suspects One through Three on the last page of the ledger, his voice exceptionally excited. "Sawyer, you’ve really worked hard today. Why don’t you have a bite to eat here before you go back?"

Faced with the chief’s enthusiastic invitation, Zoe Sawyer shook her head and declined. "No, thank you, Chief. I’d rather just go back and get some rest."

The work itself hadn’t been difficult, but staring at Suspect Number Two all afternoon had been incredibly boring.

The woman barely moved, doing nothing but watching TV or scrolling through her phone.

Zoe had been afraid of missing a clue, so she’d kept an intense, unwavering watch. That kind of focus was mentally exhausting.

All she wanted now was to go back, shower, and sleep, so she politely declined the chief’s invitation.

The chief didn’t think anything of it. He patted the wooden box on the table and said, "Alright, then. In that case, I won’t keep you.

Once this case is completely wrapped up, I’ll talk to your Chief about the whole process."

After confirming there was nothing else they needed help with, Zoe Sawyer and the others went through the door and returned to their office.

The moment they got back, Heath Hale shot to his feet, rushed over to Zoe Sawyer, and looked her up and down. He only let out a true sigh of relief after confirming that, aside from being mentally exhausted, she had no other injuries.

Even though he knew this mission posed no real danger to Zoe Sawyer, he hadn’t gone with her, so he couldn’t help but worry about her.

Now that he could see her in person and confirm she was safe, he could finally relax completely.

"Relax. We weren’t involved in the arrest at all. We just provided our colleagues over there with the suspects’ movements. Nothing was going to happen." Seeing Heath Hale’s anxious expression, Zoe Sawyer stepped closer and patted his uninjured arm reassuringly.

Seeing the two of them getting closer and closer, Evan Keller clicked his tongue with a hint of resignation and looked away.

After briefly explaining the situation with the case, Zoe Sawyer went back to her dorm to rest.

「The next morning.」

When Zoe Sawyer arrived, she found Evan Keller, Heath Hale, and the others looking thrilled, as if they had just heard some exciting news.

"What’s going on? Every one of you looks so excited," Zoe Sawyer asked as she walked in.

Sean Hughes trotted over to Zoe Sawyer’s side, his voice filled with excitement. "The Chief just sent Evan Keller a message. The ringleader and her crew confessed!

And now, the higher-ups aren’t planning to keep them around. They’ve decided to carry out the death penalty!"

’The crimes this group committed were more than enough to justify emptying a magazine!’

’I can understand the immediate execution for the ringleader and that Patrick Miller guy,’ Zoe thought, ’but the father and his two sons, too? Right now?’

’Aren’t they saving them for the other batch to be executed on Drug Enforcement Memorial Day?’

Back in college, Zoe Sawyer had seen a dark joke online saying that Lord Lynch was the only person in the modern era who still got to enjoy live human sacrifices.

Heath Hale noticed Zoe Sawyer’s confusion and explained, "These few don’t make a difference. It’s better to deal with them quickly. It’ll also make those vultures who are watching give up hope."

"After all, that father and his two sons dominated the area for so many years. The amount of information and intel they have is no small matter."

"Even though they’ve been caught now, there are still quite a few people abroad keeping an eye on them."

"We’re not afraid of their threats, but we still have to be constantly on guard.

The higher-ups’ thinking is that we’ve already gotten all the information we need out of them, so there’s no reason to keep them alive," Evan Keller shrugged.

The reason they were so excited was that many of their countrymen, and even some of their colleagues, had been lost at the hands of this group.

To see them sentenced to death was a form of solace for the deceased.

Thinking of the arrangements from the higher-ups, Evan Keller said to Zoe Sawyer, "The Chief said that once you got here, you should go to his office.

Barry Quinn, you and Monkey go with her."
