My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 460: So What Exactly Happened?
Chapter 460: Chapter 460: So What Exactly Happened?
Ms. Crawford agreed almost without hesitation.
She knew her ex-husband was no good, but she always felt that he would at least look after his own flesh and blood and show some concern.
But she never imagined he would actually try to harm his own children, and even thought he could escape suspicion by putting on an act and leveraging his status as their father.
’This isn’t just evil anymore, it’s stupid and evil!’
When faced with the police’s request, Ms. Crawford naturally didn’t refuse. This was about saving her children, after all!
After learning that the door to Morrison’s apartment only had a standard peephole, Captain Crowe quickly made a decision.
Ms. Crawford would knock on the door while the others hid to the side, staying out of the peephole’s line of sight.
As soon as Morrison opened the door, they would rush in, subdue the couple, and check on the two children.
With the plan in place, Captain Crowe and the others wasted no time, taking a small squad, along with Zoe Sawyer, and rushing to the apartment building.
KNOCK KNOCK.
The sound of knocking echoed. Ms. Crawford sniffled nervously, but seeing Captain Crowe and the others beside her out of the corner of her eye, she calmed down a little.
’The police are here. They’ll be able to protect the children!’
Soon, the sound of shuffling footsteps came from inside the apartment.
Morrison peered through the peephole. Confused to see Ms. Crawford, he asked, "What are you doing here?"
’I just picked up the kids. She couldn’t have already discovered my plan, could she?!’
"I came to see the children. Linda wasn’t feeling well this morning, and I’m still a little worried." Ms. Crawford put on a worried expression and urged, "Bring her out so I can see her. I’ll leave as soon as I’ve checked that she’s okay."
Morrison was reluctant. He was in the middle of his preparations, and since the children were so young, he hadn’t bothered hiding what he was doing from them. ’If Linda sees her mother and lets something slip, I’m finished!’
’No, no, they’re still little. They probably don’t understand the significance of what I’m doing.’
But just in case, Morrison still didn’t want the mother and daughter to have any contact.
"She’s fine. My mom checked on her after I brought them back today. Nothing’s wrong. I’ll bring the kids over in a few days!" Morrison said, shaking his head and refusing Ms. Crawford’s request.
Seeing he wouldn’t open the door, Ms. Crawford shook her head frantically, pretending she couldn’t hear him through the door.
Her gesture was clear: Open the door and let her see the child.
She wouldn’t leave until she saw them.
Having been married for several years, Morrison knew a thing or two about Ms. Crawford’s temper. She meant what she said. If she said she wasn’t leaving, she really wouldn’t leave.
’But that’s not an option!’
The next phase of his preparations would make a lot of noise. If she didn’t leave, his hands would be tied.
Plus, and this was a crucial point, if he refused again, it would look very strange.
After weighing his options, Morrison relented.
The moment he opened the door a crack, Ms. Crawford shoved it wide open. Captain Crowe and his team, waiting for the right moment, rushed in right behind her.
"Police! Nobody move!"
Startled by Ms. Crawford forcing her way in, Morrison raised his hands, clasped them behind his head, and squatted down in the next instant.
Morrison’s girlfriend, who had been binge-watching a show in the living room with a face mask on, heard the commotion at the door. When she came over and saw what was happening, she instinctively turned to run into a nearby room.
However, she was no match for the speed of Captain Crowe and his team, who twisted her arms behind her back and pinned her to the floor in a flash.
"What’s going on? What’s all this?" an elderly couple hurried over from their room, their faces etched with worry and confusion.
Seeing their son squatting on the ground and his girlfriend pinned to the floor by police, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison were utterly bewildered.
’What’s all this about now?’
Then, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison noticed Ms. Crawford standing by the door, and their expressions grew hesitant. "Linda’s mother, what’s wrong? Did you two have another fight?"
’Did they have a fight and she called the police to come arrest him again? That doesn’t make any sense!’
Before Ms. Crawford could answer, Captain Crowe stepped forward. "Hello," he said. "Your son is a suspect in an attempted murder. We have evidence, and we’re here to arrest him and his partner and take them to the station for questioning."
Hearing their son was a suspect in an attempted murder, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison’s immediate reaction was to shake their heads. "Impossible. My son has a bit of a temper, sure, but he would never think of killing anyone. Besides, he and Linda’s mother are separated. They don’t interact at all, aside from matters concerning the children. Why would he want to kill her?"
The elderly couple assumed Captain Crowe’s accusation was directed at Ms. Crawford, so they rushed to deny it and defend their son, Morrison.
’Even though our son was a scoundrel who wronged her during their marriage, he would never, ever consider doing something so illegal!’
"Linda’s mother, if you two had a fight, you should just sit down and talk it out. There’s no need to call the police." Mrs. Morrison looked at the silent Ms. Crawford and softened her voice, trying to appeal to her with their past history. "You were married for years, and you have two children. You’re bound to see each other. It’s not good to make things so hostile."
Ms. Crawford’s two children were being held back by Mr. Morrison, one in each of his hands, preventing them from running to their mother.
"This has nothing to do with me." Ms. Crawford shook her head, offering only that single explanation before falling silent again.
Morrison and his girlfriend exchanged a look, and a terrible feeling inexplicably washed over him.
’Don’t tell me she found something out!’
’No, no way. If she really knew, she wouldn’t be this calm. Given how much she dotes on her children, if she knew what I was planning, she’d want to rush over and claw my face off. She wouldn’t be this composed!’
Morrison reassured himself.
Captain Crowe stopped the elderly couple from continuing. "We will explain the details to you later," he said.
With that, Captain Crowe scanned the apartment’s layout. Based on Zoe Sawyer’s description, his eyes locked onto one particular room.
He walked briskly to the door and asked, "Whose room is this?"
Though confused, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison answered, "That’s the playroom we’re setting up for the children. We’ve been cleaning it out the last two days, so it’s a bit messy. We were worried the kids might go in and hurt themselves, so we’ve kept the door shut. Why? Is something wrong?"
"To understand the situation, we need to go inside and see for ourselves." Captain Crowe’s expression was grim.
The elderly couple saw the grim expressions on all the officers’ faces. Their son was still squatting in the corner, head in his hands, and hadn’t uttered a single word the entire time. A sense of dread began to creep into their hearts.
"Alright... so, Officer, what in the world is going on? You still can’t tell us?"
