My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 457: Child, My Child
Chapter 457: Chapter 457: Child, My Child
Zoe Sawyer took a closer look, and her face darkened.
They were two children!
Judging by their faces and small frames, the children couldn’t be more than three years old!
Staring at their two innocent little faces and their eyes wide with disbelief, Zoe Sawyer instinctively took a step forward, only to be stopped by the door a second later.
The door stopping her was what brought Zoe Sawyer back to her senses.
’This is a premonition!’
’That’s great! The children can still be saved!’
Once she realized this, the nausea that had been rising in her began to subside.
The door cut off the scene, giving Zoe Sawyer time to process what she had seen.
Heath Hale, who had followed her, had been watching Zoe Sawyer closely and witnessed her entire emotional shift.
When he saw Zoe Sawyer release her hand, he knew the vision was over. He quickly asked, "What happened? Was that a premonition or is it happening now? Do we need to head over there?"
Sean Hughes and Evan Keller also drew near, wanting to know the situation and if their help was needed.
Zoe Sawyer took a deep breath, swallowing down the last of her nausea. "It’s a premonition," she said. "The moment I opened the door, two children fell to their deaths right in front of me."
"And from the looks of it, they were both under three years old. I don’t know if it was parental negligence or if the kids managed to climb out the window on their own. I need to look again to see the details."
It had happened so suddenly, and the scene of the children falling to their deaths right before her eyes was so shocking, that Zoe Sawyer hadn’t paid attention to the surroundings.
Now that she had finally calmed herself, she had to figure out as quickly as possible whether this was a deliberate act or an accident.
However, considering the door had initiated the premonition on its own, it was almost certainly a deliberate act, not an accident. At that thought, Zoe Sawyer’s heart grew heavy again.
’Who could possibly hold such malice toward two small children?’
"Don’t push yourself," Heath Hale said, his tone full of concern as he looked at Zoe Sawyer’s still-pale face.
"I’m fine, don’t worry," Zoe Sawyer said, waving a hand to show she was all right. "Now that I’ve seen it once, I can prepare myself for it."
Taking a deep breath, Zoe Sawyer gripped the doorknob again, focusing on the image she had just seen.
The door responded almost immediately.
Zoe Sawyer opened it, and the same scene unfolded before her eyes.
Without wasting a second, Zoe Sawyer quickly scanned the surroundings. Once she identified the name of the building, she read it aloud so Officer Lee could look up its exact location.
To help pinpoint the location faster, Zoe Sawyer also read out the names of the nearby buildings.
Just as she finished, the two children fell to their deaths in front of her again. But this time, since she was prepared for it, the shock wasn’t as great.
Looking at the children’s bodies, Zoe Sawyer gazed up at the building they had fallen from. She controlled the door, rewinding time and pulling the perspective upward.
She didn’t rewind it all at once, but rather inch by inch.
In Zoe Sawyer’s vision, it was like watching a videotape rewind.
The two children floated up into the air, rising little by little, as the door’s perspective followed them upward.
Soon, Zoe Sawyer determined that the children had fallen from the fifteenth floor of the building.
At the exact moment the children fell, she could see a pair of hands quickly pulling back from the window.
’So it was intentional! Not an accident!’
Her suspicion confirmed, Zoe Sawyer felt a hot surge of anger.
’The children were less than three years old! What kind of trouble could they possibly have caused the murderer? To think they would use such a vicious method to harm them!’
Furious, Zoe Sawyer pushed the door forward.
The scene inside the apartment quickly appeared before her.
In a bedroom, two children were playing on a bay window seat. Thick mats covered the floor, providing ample protection.
The window above their heads was shut tight. Given their height, there was no way they could have opened it, much less climbed through it to fall.
Between this scene and what she’d seen before, Zoe Sawyer was now absolutely certain that someone had deliberately tried to harm these two children.
Zoe Sawyer watched patiently. Judging by the time, the murderer was about to appear.
Sure enough, a few seconds later, a young man walked into the room.
The little girl noticed him and looked up, excitedly holding out her arms. "Daddy! Up!"
The little boy beside her couldn’t speak yet, but that didn’t stop him from mimicking his sister, stretching out his own arms to be held.
The man forced a stiff smile. He stood before the bay window and said to his children, "How about Daddy plays a game with you?"
"Okay!"
The little girl’s eyes sparkled as she looked at her father expectantly.
Meeting his daughter’s trusting and expectant gaze, the man instinctively averted his eyes. Then, as if remembering something, he took a deep breath and reached out to open the window.
"Be good now. Come on, let’s play our game!" The man grabbed the back of each child’s collar, one in each hand. Ignoring their uncomfortable wriggling, he simply tossed them out the window.
The instant he was done, the man snatched his hands back and stood frozen before the window, a dazed look on his face.
"Baby, you love me so much. You were really willing to get rid of your own children for me." A woman ran in and threw her arms around the man’s waist from behind, her voice sickly sweet.
The man reached out and patted the back of her hand, his voice distant. "I told you I’d do it. This is the proof of my love for you."
"All right, we can’t stay here. We need to go downstairs and put on the final act."
As he spoke, he coached his girlfriend, "We don’t know anything! We were in the living room the whole time. We only came over when we heard a noise and discovered the children had fallen."
"This has nothing to do with us. Do you understand?"
The woman nodded firmly. She knew exactly what to say.
’For the sake of their future happiness together, she would definitely play her part perfectly!’
After getting their story straight, the man quickly shifted his demeanor. He rushed to the window with a panicked look, leaned out to look down, and screamed his children’s names in a heart-rending cry.
Once he was sure people below were looking up, the man wasted no more time. He dashed for the door and sprinted down the stairs as fast as he could, rushing to his children’s bodies.
In his frantic rush, he lost one of his slippers, and the leg of his pajama pants bunched up as he ran.
The man stopped a short distance from the children’s bodies. The frantic sprint had made his legs weak and shaky, and he finally collapsed onto the ground.
His expression was dazed as he stared blankly at the two children. Just as the onlookers thought he was in shock...
...the man suddenly let out a horrifying wail. He clawed at his face, dragging his hands down hard. His sharp nails tore through the skin on his face and neck, and blood streamed down his hands.
"My children! My children!"
