Chapter 1488: Chapter 1486: Research Maniac
The two stopped walking eventually.
Yang Chen looked at Ye Xin.
Ye Xin’s gaze shimmered with a hint of shyness.
A strange feeling floated between the two, a feeling that seemed to be called love.
"Let’s have a hug!" Yang Chen opened his arms, "The leaders are still waiting for us."
Ye Xin nodded slightly, leaned forward, and nestled into Yang Chen’s embrace.
Yang Chen hugged Ye Xin tightly, feeling her softness and fragrance.
At this moment, their hearts were trembling.
For a long time.
Yang Chen reluctantly released Ye Xin and said softly, "Alright, let’s take care of business first!"
"Okay!" Ye Xin obediently nodded, although she felt reluctant, thinking that their time alone was too short, she understood that they both had greater responsibilities to bear, and there was nothing they could do about it.
For the benefit of everyone, they had to make certain sacrifices.
Ye Xin followed behind Yang Chen back to the meeting point.
After everyone gathered, they got into a vehicle and left the port to head to the nearby base.
Upon arrival at the base, after a brief rest, Yang Chen was invited into a room.
Inside, there was only the chief leader.
With his current status, no one had the authority to interrogate him anymore, and since he wasn’t part of the system, he wasn’t subject to control; his actions now were driven by a passionate heart, more like aiding than executing orders.
Thus, only the chief leader was qualified to inquire about his close-call details.
"How have you been over there lately?" the leader asked.
Yang Chen smiled slightly, "Haven’t you received any news?"
The leader gave a wry smile, nodded, and said, "I’ve received some news, but I need to hear it from you; after all, news is just news, and I don’t know if they’re accurate."
Yang Chen laughed, took a sip of water, and said, "Alright, I’ll give you a detailed account!"
Yang Chen narrated each and every incident to the leader.
The leader listened intently, not only recording with a voice recorder but also having cameras around capturing everything. Even so, the leader still used a pen to take notes in his notebook.
Yang Chen had great respect for the leader’s attitude.
For someone in such a position, still so diligent and meticulous, it was very commendable.
Yang Chen indeed respected the leader, but some previous incidents rendered their relationship somewhat delicate. After all, differing standpoints invariably led to some divergence.
This conversation lasted all afternoon.
After listening to Yang Chen’s account, the leader put down his pen with a sigh, "You’ve been through a lot!"
Yang Chen said blandly, "I just wanted to avenge Xia He! Moreover, although Xia He’s identity was confidential, I think someone who sacrificed should be given recognition, don’t you?"
The leader nodded earnestly, "Rest assured, I will make arrangements! We will not disappoint any spirit!"
Yang Chen nodded slightly, stood up, and said, "We’ve been talking all day, let’s take a walk outside."
"Sure! Let’s eat first, I’ve already arranged it," the leader replied with a smile, standing up.
The two went to the dining hall.
As the leader said, the meals were prepared, simple dishes and some staple foods, convenient for use and easy to digest. Perhaps the leader, being older, needed such easily digestible food.
During the meal, the leader brought up Yang Cao.
Yang Cao, upon returning, had thrown himself right into the lab, and hadn’t rested for days.
He had gathered so much information and data, needing to sort it all out in a short time, otherwise, if halted, things might be forgotten.
Currently, Yang Cao was facing a war—a war between time and memory.
Yang Chen frowned at this revelation, "How long has it been?"
"At least two days and nights without sleep. If you have time, try to persuade him not to overwork; as long as we diligently research, catching up is only a matter of time!" the leader lamented.
Yang Chen nodded slightly, lowered his head and continued eating, but his brows were furrowed.
After dining, Yang Chen said, "If there’s nothing tonight, I’d prefer to leave."
The leader considered it, nodded, "You can leave first; let Night Fire stay to complete the reports and other tasks."
"Okay!" Yang Chen nodded.
He was greatly concerned for Yang Cao.
Ye Xin had told him before that during their time there, Yang Cao was intense and dedicated; researching fully for Fuyuan Mountain base, going through considerable difficulty and expending much energy. Yet within a few days he not only completed the task but also secretly obtained all the classified data, which was incredibly draining on both body and mind.
Upon return, Yang Cao began sorting data relentlessly; Yang Chen feared he might not endure!
In the evening, while others were still reporting, Yang Chen found a vehicle, intending to leave.
Just as he was about to go, Ye Xin exited the car door and sat inside.
Yang Chen glanced at her and started up the car.
The two didn’t exchange many words, but they understood each other’s concerns.
On the road, Yang Chen drove fast.
Ye Xin’s hand gently rested on Yang Chen’s hand, consoling, "Don’t worry too much; from my interactions with Yang Cao, he seems like someone who knows his limits and wouldn’t neglect his health."
Yang Chen shook his head, "That’s because your interaction with him hasn’t been long; if this guy finds something exceptionally interesting, he dares to go all out!"
Ye Xin was slightly surprised.
Yang Chen continued, "Back in Lijia Continent’s grand canyon, he discovered a peculiar plant, which had many unique characteristics; it hardly required sunlight to survive, thriving merely on the sandy soil on rocks, but when transplanted indoors, it would wilt quickly, yet returning it to its original spot would revive it."
"Such a wondrous plant?" Ye Xin asked curiously.
"Of course!" Yang Chen chuckled, "The world is full of wonders; Yang Cao spent seventeen days figuring out what was going on. Do you know what his condition was then?"
"What condition?" Ye Xin was also curious.
Yang Chen said, "He had a stick tied to his body, with an IV bag hanging on it, continuing his research!"
"..." Ye Xin was at a loss for words to describe this scientific enthusiast.
"Was the plant’s mystery resolved eventually?" Ye Xin asked.
"Yes, it turned out to be a unique fungus, requiring the canyon’s underground environment; their survival depended on special spores, unable to live elsewhere," Yang Chen answered.
"I see," Ye Xin remarked.
"Thus," Yang Chen sighed, "I’m worried he’ll push himself too hard!"
Ye Xin nodded, not saying more. For now, it was evident Yang Cao was a reckless research fanatic!
