My SSS-Rank Innate skill: Infinite Adaptation core
Chapter 267: Interrogation 2
"Also, during those three years, I met two women. The first was Rieka Vargirth, a member of a Beastfolk tribe residing in Forstholme. We became lovers. Then I met Asia Frost, the daughter of Duke Frost.
"I fell for her as well, and we became lovers. After some time, we got engaged."
Of course, this was a lie, as he wasn’t officially engaged to Rieka and Asia yet.
Theodore had simply instructed everyone to keep other nobles from sending marriage proposals or invitations for Asia.
He didn’t mind revealing that his daughter was engaged to a commoner either. That was simply the kind of person Theodore was.
Besides, Nova wasn’t any ordinary commoner.
And Nova didn’t actually need an engagement or marriage to prove his relationship with his wives. Still, if necessary, he could hold an official marriage ceremony.
Of course, that would take some time with all the chaos happening around them.
Coming back to the matter at hand, when Nova made it clear that he was in a relationship with two women, and one of them was Asia Frost, the Duke’s daughter, some of the nobles openly expressed their disapproval.
Even though they knew how talented both women were, and not to mention that Nova was the champion of the tournament despite his special standing, they still considered it shameful for the daughter of a high-ranking noble to marry a commoner.
Of course, Nova didn’t pay any attention to their opinions and continued revealing a little more about his background until they came to the capital for the tournament.
He obviously didn’t mention that he had been caught in the battle between the Demon Generals and the human army, as doing so would have been a mistake.
"Okay. Your explanation matches the information we have gathered. We have also asked many people who know you back in Frostholme and in Coldrock, your village."
"And I am pleased to say that you aren’t lying or making anything up," Alaric stated before continuing. "But we still have more things to ask.
This was only your background. As you know, the Slaughter Monarch is an incomprehensible being."
"We aren’t even sure whether he is a demon, dragon, human, or even a hybrid like Demon Lord Raze."
"So?" Nova asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We know that you have awakened C-Rank potential and the Lightning Affinity. But for anyone with your status, it would be extremely difficult to reach the King Realm in such a short time.
Of course, unless you gained a massive amount of experience points by killing half-dead Demonic Beasts."
"And you are the son-in-law of Duke Theodore, who has enough wealth to help you increase your level. But we would like to check your status again—of course, specifically your level and your affinity."
"As we know, the Slaughter Monarch has Space and Lightning Affinities, so we would like to check your status to confirm this."
"And we would also like to check whether you possess any traces of demonic or dragonic energy."
"Once we see your status, all the allegations against you will be lifted, and we will announce it to the entire continent so that no one will be able to question your identity again," Alaric concluded.
"Yeah, that’s right. If we can see his status, we’ll know whether he is lying or not."
"No one has the power to alter their status!"
Discussions broke out as the ministers believed what the High Priest was saying was absolutely correct, and it was indeed the right method to confirm Nova’s identity.
As they knew, no one could alter their status. Yes, powerful individuals could hide their status, but to them, Nova was only a Level 1500 King Realm expert. His status would make everything clear.
"What if he transforms and starts killing us? I don’t know, but I’m quite scared of that guy when he smiles."
"You’re right... That could happen. Shouldn’t we call those powerhouses inside? What if they’re too late and he eats us before they arrive?"
The old ministers agreed with Alaric, but at the same time, they were terrified of Nova.
Leonis thought this was the right thing to do as well, so he also agreed and waited to see if Nova was willing to let them check his status.
Albert and Ron were nervously looking at Nova. They were fifty percent sure that he was the same person, as he gave them the same feeling they had gotten from the Slaughter Monarch.
They were ready to run if things went wrong, as they knew they were no match for that colossal dragon’s power. However, they had to remain there.
With Supreme Leader Darius dead, as he had been the head representative of the Human Twilight Order branch, Albert and Ron were now responsible for the Human Twilight Order.
Everyone was looking at Nova, wondering if he was truly the person they suspected him to be. If he was, they expected him to refuse the status confirmation, as it would reveal the truth.
And if he wasn’t the same person, he shouldn’t have any problem with it.
However, Alaric didn’t know why, but he had a gut feeling that they were the same person. And his gut feeling had never been wrong.
"I don’t mind. Go ahead and check it."
Nova’s words rang throughout the hall, leaving everyone silent as his voice echoed through the throne room.
Of course, those who supported Nova weren’t surprised, but those who were absolutely certain he was the Slaughter Monarch were baffled.
If he was really the Slaughter Monarch, why was he so willing to let them check his status? Wasn’t he supposed to be afraid of being exposed?
They all looked at his face. It remained calm, showing no sign of nervousness or fear of being exposed. But it was still too early to believe anything until they actually checked his status.
What if he was thinking that if he wasn’t scared of the check, they would believe he was innocent? Perhaps he would become scared once they actually checked him.
"I appreciate your cooperation," Alaric said as he took out two white crystals from his storage ring.
Nova examined them. One of the crystals was the same Awakening Stone he had seen during the awakening ceremony in his village.
The other was similar to the crystal he had seen members of the Light Temple Order use to check for demonic energy.
However, this one was different.
It could reveal which race a person belonged to through their mana, whether it was a Demon, Dragon, Elf, Beastfolk, or Human. It was also a Heaven-Rank treasure.
Alaric brought the crystals in front of Nova and called over two guards. They quickly arrived with a table and placed it before them, allowing both crystals to be placed on top of it.
After the crystals were placed on the table, Alaric explained, "The crystal on the left will project your level and affinity, while the crystal on the right will reveal your race and if you have any different unusual energies.
"You just have to place either one of your hands on them and inject your mana into the crystals. The results will be clear."
If it had been the old Nova, whose demonic energy was not yet under control, his identity as a Demon would have already been revealed.
But after his Second Evolution, when he gained his transformations, he obtained one of the most amazing powers he had ever received.
He could use his demonic energy in his human form if he wanted to. However, when he remained in his human form and didn’t use any other type of energy, no one could tell whether he was a Demon, Dragon, or even a hybrid. To everyone else, he would simply appear to be a human.
As for his status, Origin Concealment was more than enough to alter what the crystals would detect.
It could also hide his different auras and energies, making it impossible for anyone to discover his true identity through a simple status check.
"Do you understand, Nova Valencrest?" Alaric asked.
Nova looked at him. "Yeah, it’s crystal clear," he replied with a knowing smile that Alaric couldn’t understand.
But in the next moment, Alaric took out his communication stone and spoke into it.
"Lord Korr... We are ready."
Nova immediately sensed the presence that appeared behind him, but he didn’t let his reaction show. He simply remained calm, pretending that he hadn’t noticed anything.
A moment later, a seven-foot-tall figure appeared behind Nova, releasing a wave of suppressed Sovereign aura.
Of course, if he released his full aura, everyone in the hall would have died instantly, except Nova, Albert, and Ron.
Nova immediately recognized him as the same Level 2 Sovereign he had sensed earlier.
And now that he could properly feel his aura, Nova also understood something else.
He was a Beastfolk. Nova slowly turned around.
Standing behind him was a tall and menacing figure—a Lionkin. His appearance was intimidating, with a powerful build and a wild, ferocious presence.
