My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 709 - 475: A Wife Who Dotes on Her Husband
Jiangg Ning knew Chen Yuan had slept in Yaoyao’s room last night. There were only two rooms, after all. Since Chen Yuan hadn’t come to her, it was obvious he was with Yaoyao.
She had thought that after their conversation in the hallway, Chen Yuan would go and ask her what was wrong.
But in the end... well, she’d been reading too much into it.
After washing up, Jiangg Ning left the light on and waited for at least half an hour.
She didn’t know what she was waiting for; she just felt like waiting.
When he didn’t come, Jiangg Ning turned off the light and tossed and turned in bed for a long time. On one hand, she thought it was right for Chen Yuan to stay with Yaoyao. They were in a confirmed relationship, after all. Coming to her room would have required more consideration.
It was logical and reasonable... but for some reason, that logic didn’t sit well with her.
...
The sun was high in the sky.
In the hospital room, Jiangg Ning stood with her arms crossed, scrutinizing her lazy sister and Chen Yuan.
The two of them groggily opened their eyes. It took a while after waking for their souls to return to their bodies. Their throats felt dry and scratchy, and their foreheads were beaded with sweat they hadn’t noticed before.
"Why is it so stuffy... What time is it?" This was the first thing Chen Yuan said after waking up.
"It’s noon," Jiangg Ning said, looking at him.
"Then how come there’s no sunlight at all?" Chen Yuan coughed lightly and frowned.
Beside him, Jiangg Yao had also woken up, but after shifting into a more comfortable position, she closed her eyes again.
"It’s overcast," Jiangg Ning said nonchalantly as she opened the window. "Aren’t you going to work today?"
"Nope, taking the day off."
As he spoke, Chen Yuan felt around for his slippers and got out of bed. He ignored Jiangg Yao’s whining request to turn on the air conditioner and went to wash up himself.
Chen Yuan was relatively well-behaved, but Yaoyao was a bit disobedient. Sleeping in was part of her daily routine.
Normally, it wouldn’t have been a big deal.
She could sleep as long as she wanted. Ningning would call her a few times and then give up, as long as she wasn’t literally dead in her bed.
But today was different. Their elders had come and even cooked a meal. Not getting up under these circumstances was indeed a bit rude, and Ningning had always been particular about such things.
"Jiangg Yao, are you getting up or not?" she asked.
"Just let me sleep for another half hour..." Jiangg Yao’s voice was tiny, as if she were talking in her sleep. "Sis, turn on the AC for me. It’s so hot."
"What do you mean, turn on the AC? Get up now. Uncle and Auntie are waiting for you to eat. Did you stay up late again last night?"
"Ugh—"
"If you don’t get up, I’m pulling off your blanket. This is your only warning."
Jiangg Ning wasn’t about to be gentle with her just because she was injured, not like Chen Yuan. Using just one hand, she hauled her up. Jiangg Yao lolled her head back, half-dead, unable to open her eyes.
"Five minutes. Just give me five more minutes and I’ll get up... Please, Sis."
With a toothbrush dangling from his mouth, Chen Yuan had just stepped out of the bathroom when he saw the tug-of-war between the two sisters. He stopped to watch for a moment.
"Alright now, you’ll wake up once you wash your face," he mumbled.
Chen Yuan walked right over, undid the strap by the bed that was securing Jiangg Yao’s foot, and then, with a flex of his arms, instantly lifted her up.
He gave her no room to resist.
One moment Jiangg Yao was lying in bed, the next she was in mid-air.
She flailed her arms a little before instinctively clinging tightly to Chen Yuan.
"What are you doing?" Yaoyao grumbled.
"Helping you wash up."
Chen Yuan carried her to the small stool in the bathroom meant for patients. He first brushed aside the messy strands of hair on her forehead before taking a washcloth and starting to wipe her face.
Jiangg Ning watched his every move from start to finish.
Including, of course, the moment he picked Yaoyao up.
Jiangg Ning was injured too, though it was her hand. When she’d gotten up that morning, she’d had to wash her face and get dressed with just one hand. Even though she knew Jiangg Yao’s injury was different from hers, Ningning couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.
She couldn’t just watch Chen Yuan dote on Jiangg Yao and feel nothing.
Jiangg Ning sighed silently, pressing her lips together. She was just about to leave the room.
But then, Chen Yuan suddenly walked out of the bathroom and came straight toward her. He bent down, placed his hands behind her knees, and with a slight effort, lifted Jiangg Ning up as well.
Instantly, Ningning froze.
"My legs aren’t injured..."
Chen Yuan didn’t listen to her explanation. He carried Ningning to the bathroom with quick, short steps and set her down on another small stool. Her beautiful eyes were still wide with shock as she stared at him.
Meanwhile, Jiangg Yao was cupping her cheek, a dazed look on her face. She clearly wasn’t fully awake yet.
Still rebooting.
Chen Yuan picked up a toothbrush and toothpaste and stuffed them into Jiangg Ning’s hand.
"You fix Yaoyao’s hair, and then she can brush her own teeth. I need to go change."
"Then you could have just said so. Why did you have to carry me over?" Jiangg Ning asked, confused.
"Because I wanted to carry you."
Chen Yuan spat out the foam from his mouth and gave Ningning a brilliant smile. He had just washed his face, and his bangs were still wet and clumped together. It had to be said, that smile was devastatingly effective.
It immediately made Jiangg Ning think, ’He’s so handsome.’
For a moment, she was completely at a loss for words.
No wonder people say you should find a good-looking partner. That way, even when you want to fight, you just have to look at their face, and your anger will naturally disappear.
Looks are everything.
"Then go get changed," Jiangg Ning said, lowering her head and starting to squeeze toothpaste.
"No peeking, okay?" Chen Yuan winked.
"As if."
As soon as she said it, Chen Yuan shrugged and left.
Leaving Jiangg Ning standing there, stunned for a moment. After a little while, the corners of her mouth curled up involuntarily.
She had already stuck the toothbrush in Jiangg Yao’s mouth.
But she didn’t know what she was secretly smiling about.
...
To make this chicken soup, Liu He had poured in all her culinary skills.
She had woken up at five in the morning to butcher the old black-boned chicken she’d brought all the way from Qishui County in the hospital kitchen. In addition to the ingredients she had brought, she also got some cordyceps and pork bones from the kitchen to prepare the soup base beforehand.
It simmered for the entire morning.
When she finally lifted the lid, the aroma that wafted out was so rich that even the hospital’s chefs were stunned, clicking their tongues in amazement.
At the dining table, she lifted the lid.
As the pale golden broth was revealed, a fragrant aroma rushed to greet them, and a chorus of "Wow!"s was all that could be heard.
"This smells incredible!" Jiangg Yao stared at the chicken soup in the clay pot, feeling as if nothing else in the world existed. All the other lavish dishes on the table were completely ignored.
Jiangg Ning, being an excellent cook herself, understood better than Yaoyao just how much effort had gone into this soup.
She was especially moved when she heard that the ingredients had been brought all the way from Qishui County.
This was a gesture, brimming with a mother’s love, that she had never experienced from Jiangg Ruxue.
"Mom, since when were you this good a cook?" Chen Yuan swallowed, equally shocked.
After all, he’d been eating Liu He’s cooking for so many years.
Liu He was very satisfied with their reactions, her smile especially brilliant.
For someone who works hard in the kitchen, there is no greater happiness than having their creations appreciated.
"It’s nothing, really. I just simmered it for a long time. Ningning, Yaoyao, don’t worry. I skimmed off all the fat, so drinking it definitely won’t make you gain weight. Drink up."
"Auntie, you’re the best," Jiangg Yao said, completely from the heart.
Liu He ladled soup for the two sisters, beaming all the while.
Chopsticks in hand, Chen Yuan watched with envy as the two bowls of soup were taken and placed steadily in front of the sisters. However, Liu He made no further move, simply watching the sisters and urging them to drink.
"Mom..."
"What is it?"
"Where’s mine?" Chen Yuan asked expectantly.
"You want some too?" Liu He paused, confused. "Are you injured too?"
"I’m not injured, but I’d like some."
"You can wait. Let them have their fill. If there’s any left, you can have a taste," Liu He said mercilessly, her tone almost dismissive.
"Huh?" Chen Yuan had never been treated like this before. He was dumbfounded.
When had he ever had to eat leftovers?
After a moment, perhaps noticing he was stunned, Liu He tried to smooth things over. "Aren’t there plenty of other dishes on the table? Why are you fighting with the patients for their food? Here, eat this."
As she spoke, she placed a chicken leg in Chen Yuan’s bowl.
Chen Yuan sighed to himself, said nothing, and began to eat quietly.
"Wow, Auntie, you’re such an amazing cook! How can it be this delicious?" Jiangg Yao praised, clicking her tongue. "I swear, this is the best chicken soup I’ve ever had."
"Aiya, Yaoyao, you’re such a sweet talker. Auntie just loves hearing you talk. With words like that, I’d be willing to wake up at three, let alone five."
"It’s fragrant but not greasy, with a faint scent of herbs. It’s delicious," Jiangg Ning added, a rare, bright smile blossoming on her face.
"Is it really that good?" Chen Yuan asked sourly.
"You don’t get any, do you? Nyeh nyeh nyeh."
Jiangg Yao deliberately dangled the spoon in front of him, making everyone chuckle.
However, a moment later, perhaps sensing that Chen Yuan was indeed looking a little pitiful, Jiangg Yao blew on the spoonful of soup and generously held it to his lips. "Here," she said softly. "You can have a taste."
’Yaoyao is still the one who knows how to dote on me,’ Chen Yuan thought, quickly gulping it down.
What he didn’t expect was that Jiangg Ning also brought her spoon over.
"Once you taste it, you’ll know we weren’t exaggerating," she said.
Chen Yuan was already sitting between the two sisters, and neither of them was about to let him just watch with longing eyes.
They really knew how to dote on their man.
Chen Yuan, who had initially been acting like a sour grape, began to praise the chicken soup along with them.
"It’s really good. Let me have another taste."
"No more for you."
"Mine’s all gone too."
The two sisters guarded their bowls, not letting Chen Yuan snatch any more.
But they had completely forgotten that this act of feeding Chen Yuan, so natural for them on a normal day, was being taken in by Mr. and Mrs. Chen.
By the time they realized and noticed the teasing gazes from Mr. and Mrs. Chen...
Jiangg Ning’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson.
