My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Chapter 67: To Make You Happy

  • Next Chapter

Qiao Canhua was leaning back in his chair, staring blankly at the stars.

The weather was clear today. With no moon, it was a perfect night for stargazing.

It should have been a relaxing time, but Qiao Canhua's brows were tightly furrowed.

The potential challenge was too great.

If he couldn't get Wu Long off his back, the situation would become extremely tense.

The Southside Lot 6 was a fiercely contested prize; how could Wu Long possibly let it go?

Thinking of this, he let out a long sigh.

"Boss Qiao, you look so worried!"

And wasn't he? Qiao Canhua looked up to see Mu Lin had appeared by his side again.

"Mu Xiaoyou, are you really planning to become Old Zhao's grandson-in-law? Why are you always here?"

"Ling'Er's friend fainted in the hot spring. Divine Doctor Zhao couldn't very well go in himself, so he came to find me."

'There's something fishy about this whole damn thing,' Qiao Canhua thought. 'It was a matter of life and death. Divine Doctor Zhao, driven by the urgent need to save a life, should have rushed in immediately.'

But he didn't. Not only did he not go, but he even called Mu Lin to go instead.

'What if time was wasted on the way and the person couldn't be saved?'

'Old Zhao is definitely up to something here.'

But Qiao Canhua didn't feel the need to spell it out for Mu Lin. He asked, "So how is Miss Zhao's friend?"

Mu Lin said, "She was just too tired and fell asleep, that's all."

Qiao Canhua felt his suspicions were getting closer to the truth.

"I didn't come here to talk about that today. I wanted to show you this."

Mu Lin took out his phone and pulled up a photo of Wu Ming after he'd been beaten up for Qiao Canhua to see.

"This is Wu Ming, Wu Long's biological son. I thought you'd be happy to see him beaten up."

Qiao Canhua glanced at it, his eyes narrowing, but he quickly pushed it away.

"Why should I be happy? That's his son, not Wu Long himself."

Mu Lin said, "It happened by chance. I don't know why he was beaten, but isn't the fact that he was beaten a good thing in itself?"

Qiao Canhua smiled. "You have a point! Anything else? I'd like to be alone for a while."

Mu Lin said, "That's all. Get some rest, Boss Qiao."

He turned to leave, but Qiao Canhua said, "Wait, send me that photo!"

Mu Lin chuckled. "Looks like you are pretty happy about it after all."

With that, he brought up the interface and sent the photo.

Qiao Canhua looked down at his phone. Only after Mu Lin had left did he let out a secret laugh.

Mu Lin then turned and went to Zhao Ling'er's room. Zhao Ling'er had changed out of her pajamas and was now wearing a combination of fluffy shorts and a small camisole. Youthful and beautiful, every part of her captured Mu Lin's attention.

'I should be able to ignore this, focus my mind, and remain completely unmoved,' Mu Lin thought.

"Brother Mu, come and sit!" Zhao Ling'er patted the spot next to her.

Mu Lin sat down, maintaining a calm-as-still-water composure.

But he immediately discovered he seemed to have overestimated his self-control.

Her charm was truly immense.

"Ling'Er, you should put on a robe! It's cool at night."

Hearing those words, Zhao Ling'er burst out laughing. "Brother Mu, it's thirty degrees today, and you're saying it's cool! I think you're the one who's feeling hot."

She tossed her hair behind her ear, revealing her clean, fair neck, which looked exceptionally alluring under the orange glow of the incandescent light.

Then, she picked up a medical book beside her and pointed at a page.

"Brother Mu, look at this case. How would you treat it?"

"Haven't you already answered this question?"

"I'm the one asking you the questions. Of course I need to know what you're made of. If you're even weaker than me, then I might as well just study on my own!" Zhao Ling'er said, tilting her head back proudly.

'Acting like that, she probably just picked a random question to stall for time,' Mu Lin thought.

But upon closer inspection, he found that wasn't the case... It was actually a rather tricky common illness, the kind that could easily be fatal if not handled carefully.

'Looks like she's studied this very thoroughly,' he noted, seeing the many small notes written in the margins with a blue ballpoint pen.

Zhao Ling'er deftly covered the small notes with her hands, leaving very little visible.

"Ah, yin deficiency with excessive fire... this..." Mu Lin was reminded of the terror of being dominated by his master.

He knew how to treat illnesses, but he hadn't delved that deeply into the details. All in all, he was quite afraid of these particularly meticulous questions.

But thanks to the conditioned reflexes beaten into him by his master, Mu Lin still answered the question with exceptional smoothness.

"Wow, you're really amazing! I just brute-force memorized the answer to this question. If you asked it in a different way, I probably wouldn't know what to do."

'You think I wanted to learn this?' Mu Lin thought. 'If it weren't for being afraid of the old man's stick, I never would have wanted to study medicine!'

"Since you know that one, then you'll definitely know this one—I really don't know the answer to this," Zhao Ling'er said, nimbly flipping to a page with a folded corner.

"See this question? It's so hard. I've been working on it for ages and I'm completely lost."

Mu Lin glanced at it and also felt a bit stumped. "I'm not sure. Let me think about it."

Mu Lin grabbed a pen and paper, first listing out the symptoms of the case, then matching them with detailed syndromes, and finally listing the yin and yang strength of each organ.

Only then did he get to the final step: prescribing an Acupuncture Technique plan or an herbal medicine plan.

Finishing one question left him drenched in sweat from the effort.

'Doctors deserve to make a lot of money,' he thought. 'It's all compensation for mental distress!'

Zhao Ling'er leaned over to look, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, so you can solve it like that! Mu Lin, you're so awesome!"

Mu Lin said, "You can't always have me do it for you. You have to practice yourself! Go on, you do the next one, and I'll see if you're doing it right."

Zhao Ling'er pouted and said, "Okay!"

Then she grabbed her pen and toiled away at the next question.

Mu Lin felt mentally exhausted as he watched Zhao Ling'er propping her head up, lost in deep thought.

His mind couldn't help but wander. Zhao Ling'er had a great figure with very alluring curves. She was still young, so her metabolism was fast, and she didn't have an ounce of fat on her.

'Hey, hey, hey, what are you thinking?' Mu Lin wished he could just slap himself.

Zhao Ling'er wrote for a long time before finally letting out a long breath and exclaiming, "Phew, I finally finished! Brother Mu, it's all thanks to you. Otherwise, I'd never have been able to finish all these questions."

She stood up, holding her book, and happily walked out.

Mu Lin looked at the time and was shocked. "Hey, hey! It's past midnight! Your grandpa should be asleep, right?"

"Nope. Grandpa usually waits for me to finish my homework and checks it before he goes to sleep. I really don't get a single chance to slack off."

Zhao Ling'er ran out and saw Divine Doctor Zhao and Qiao Canhua admiring the starry sky. She walked over quickly and said with a smile, "Grandpa, I'm done!"

Zhao Yang took the medical book and workbook, quickly checked them over, and said, "With Mu Lin's help, today's work actually looks decent! Alright, go get some rest!"

Zhao Ling'er gave a soft "okay" and glanced at Mu Lin again. "Then, Grandpa, what about Mu Lin? It's so late, can he still get back?"

Zhao Yang said, "How about I let him sleep in your room?!"

Zhao Ling'er's eyes lit up. "That would be great!"

"In your dreams! Go back and get some rest!" Zhao Yang was just testing Zhao Ling'er and didn't expect this girl, who was already siding with an outsider, to actually think it was a good idea.

'What is she thinking?'

"Mu Lin, you should hurry back! We're so sorry for keeping you past midnight."

Mu Lin waved his hand. "It's no problem! I have a key to the house."

With that, Mu Lin turned and left.

'If I stay any longer, Zhao Yang might actually arrange for me to sleep in Zhao Ling'er's room. What would I do then?'

Actually, he didn't have a key. The door was definitely locked by now.

'Worst case, I'll just crash outside for a night.'

Back when he was on the mountain, sometimes he would get carried away having fun and lose track of time, so he'd just make do and sleep like this. Other than the annoying mosquitoes, it was honestly bearable.

There was no reason the city should be any tougher to endure than the mountains.

He first took a car back to the Li Family Villa and tried pushing the door open.

But the door was already locked.

'Sigh, guess I'll just spend the night on the lawn!'

He covered his head with his jacket to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes.

'Just have to get through one night.'

Li Xue's window lit up. A moment later, the front door opened, and Li Xue walked out, saying:

"Hurry up and get in here. Are you waiting to get bitten to death by a dog?"

She was wearing slippers and was still in the same clothes as earlier.

Mu Lin was startled to hear Li Xue's voice. "Why are you still awake?"

"How could I sleep when you're stuck outside? Get your ass in here! Stop making a fool of yourself out there!"

Mu Lin scrambled inside.
