My Most Beautiful Fiancée
Chapter 470 469: Autopsy
"Hold on. Mr. Mu, before you begin, I'd like to introduce you to the captain of the Patrol Team, Wan Pengcheng."
Wan Pengcheng hurried over, addressing Mu Lin with great respect. "Mr. Mu, it's a true honor! I've heard you've handled quite a few cases for the Military Suppression Bureau, and my counterparts there have nothing but praise for you."
Mu Lin smiled faintly at them. "You're too kind. It's nothing special. I just feel one should put their skills to use. Add a little luck, and that's how I've gotten this far."
"If you keep hyping me up as some kind of master, I really won't know what to do with myself!" Mu Lin said with a smile.
Unexpectedly, these words made Wan Pengcheng admire Mu Lin even more. "Mr. Mu, you're far too humble! Captain Jiang himself said that your methods are unlike anything he's ever seen or heard of. Even he has never witnessed such things."
Mu Lin found this even more amusing. "He's talking nonsense. There are countless ways to track people in this world. I'm nothing special."
Hearing Mu Lin say this, Jiang Long chimed in, "I've been in this line of work for so many years, and I've truly rarely seen Daoist techniques like yours. The only other method I know of for tracking people is that mirror from the Songyang Bai Family, but according to Elder Bai, it's supposedly been lost."
"So, as it stands, only your Daoist Tracing Technique can be of any use. And that's just your skill in tracking. I imagine you have even more profound methods you haven't revealed yet!"
Mu Lin paused. 'Jiang Long's flattery is really putting me in a tight spot,' he thought.
'Extracting the Spirit Medium might not even work this time. So far, this whole "speaking with the dead" thing is just something I've been saying off the cuff.'
'With Jiang Long hyping me up like this, I'm backed into a corner. Now I have to deliver some real results just to save face.'
"Captain Jiang, you think you're helping me? You're going to be the death of me!" Mu Lin patted Jiang Long's shoulder. "If you really have my back, then just stop talking! This is too embarrassing."
Seeing Mu Lin's strong objection, Jiang Long could only fall silent.
"Captain Wan, you can place your full trust in Mr. Mu. His abilities are beyond anything you or I can imagine!"
'Why is he still talking!' Mu Lin's head was starting to ache.
Wan Pengcheng immediately led the way, and the group headed toward the autopsy room.
Everything was ready.
Lin Jin asked, "Captain Wan, how did the driver die?"
Wan Pengcheng said, "The deceased had drunk a lot of alcohol and jumped from a height of three meters. A fall like that normally wouldn't be fatal. But as it happened, he landed on a roadbed that had just been poured. A piece of rebar went straight through his chest, piercing his pericardium and killing him instantly."
"Aside from the wound that pierced his heart, there are no other significant injuries. It looks like an accidental death, though calling it a suicide might not be wrong either. We'll need to gather more information to determine the direction of the investigation. Mr. Mu, what are your thoughts?"
Mu Lin glanced over and said, "Not suicide, not an accident. This was pure and simple murder!"
Captain Wan felt a surge of irritation. 'Mu Lin can't just make claims like that!'
The nature of the case would completely change, going from suicide to homicide. A case that could have been wrapped up by a few officers would suddenly require a dedicated task force.
It would require a much deeper investigation, all of which would cause significant delays.
A troubled Captain Wan glanced at Jiang Long, his expression seeming to ask, 'Is this Mr. Mu always like this?'
Jiang Long could only give him a helpless look in return.
'Who knows.'
In any case, Mu Lin had just made the case a lot more complicated.
'How are we at the Patrol Team ever going to call on a troublemaker like you again!'
'Even if Lin Tian is on good terms with the chief, we can't just keep letting Mu Lin come in and derail our investigations.'
'The whole thing would be just too embarrassing.'
Just then, a very beautiful female forensic doctor walked over. She was slender with delicate features, and her entrance seemed to brighten the entire room.
However, her expression was extremely serious, like a sheet of ice that might never thaw.
"Sir, what school did you graduate from? Where did you do your internship? How many bodies have you autopsied?"
Mu Lin replied, "Sorry, I never attended school."
"Speaking so carelessly without any formal training is highly irresponsible. And you don't seem ashamed of it—you seem proud. How is that acceptable?"
"I graduated from the Beijing Police Academy. I interned for three years in the city with the highest crime rate, during which I helped crack ten major cases. From the start of my career until now, I have autopsied two thousand bodies."
"I am meticulous with every single body, determined to find every last detail."
"I've examined this body inside and out. He was healthy, his body was intact with very few signs of bruising, which indicates no one forced him to jump. He clearly jumped on his own. It's obviously a suicide, isn't it?"
Wan Pengcheng politely introduced her, "This is our team's forensic doctor, Miao Ya."
Mu Lin gave a slight bow to Miao Ya as a polite gesture. "Forensic Doctor Miao, your resume is truly impressive. I don't have such a brilliant record. However, I believe your imagination when it comes to the wickedness of people is rather limited. It's a classic case of a blind spot in an otherwise perfect analysis. Have you considered that he might have been hypnotized into acting this way?"
Miao Ya curled her lip in disdain. "I've already ruled out such a childish possibility. The deceased was drinking alone in his dorm. After a while, he just turned and left, went to a third-floor balcony, and jumped. He didn't encounter a single person during that time. We have video evidence of all of this."
"And you're suggesting the deceased was hypnotized into jumping. That would require deep hypnosis. But a hypnotist would need to be in close contact with the victim to achieve that! Given the current chain of evidence, that's impossible."
Mu Lin listened patiently. Miao Ya's explanation was very detailed. If Mu Lin were just an ordinary person, he would have certainly believed her and not pursued the matter further.
But Mu Lin was no ordinary person. He considered himself to have a deep understanding of the supernatural.
"Forensic Doctor Miao, thank you for your hard work. You've said a lot, and I think you've made some excellent points! However, what this driver experienced was indeed no ordinary hypnosis. It could only have been achieved through a special kind of method."
Hearing Mu Lin say this, Miao Ya couldn't help but grow impatient.
'He just calls anything he can't explain "special." That's just a cop-out!'
Miao Ya's face was cold as she snapped, "Resorting to cheap tricks when you can't argue your point? What do you think this investigation is, a game?"
"Miao Ya!" Wan Pengcheng was mortified. He hadn't expected Miao Ya to actually start arguing with Mu Lin.
'What Mu Lin is saying sounds crazy, but he's our guest. Miao Ya can't just pick a fight with him, can she?'
Mu Lin sighed. "An investigation is an investigation, of course. It's just that this case shouldn't be handled by the Patrol Team in the first place."
Miao Ya grew anxious. 'I've already done so much work on this investigation, and now you're trying to get it handed off with a single sentence?'
'What kind of joke is this?'
"If the Patrol Team doesn't handle it, who will? Stop messing around!" Miao Ya was truly getting frantic.
Mu Lin said, "Who says the Patrol Team is the only one in this world that can investigate cases?"
Jiang Long said, "You're forgetting about us."
Jiang Long was very serious, which made Miao Ya freeze in astonishment. "You mean this matter..."
Mu Lin added, "From now on, leave it to the Military Suppression Bureau!"
Jiang Long also said, "Indeed. Your conventional way of thinking is useless for this case. The Military Suppression Bureau will be more effective."
Miao Ya knew there was nothing more she could do.
Jiang Long looked at Mu Lin, his expression full of excitement.
Mu Lin said, "The driver was actually being controlled. It's a state far deeper than hypnosis, allowing him to be on standby to drive at any moment. No wonder he was so important."
Miao Ya said, "Controlled? How is that possible?"
"Controlled?"
Jiang Long also cried out in alarm. As a master himself, he knew full well how much power was required to control another person's actions.
"This is the kind of work only a Divine Realm master is capable of!" Jiang Long said.
Miao Ya pressed her lips together. She could only wait quietly. 'I don't understand any of this!'
'It's so frustrating.'
Miao Ya raised her hand. "Mr. Mu, I have a question!"
Mu Lin gestured for Miao Ya to speak. She immediately said, "To control a person, you need to suppress their spirit and have an extremely high level of enlightenment. That's something only a Divine Realm master can do, and they're one in ten thousand. Who would be so wasteful as to use that power on a mere driver?"
"Isn't that a bit of an overkill?"
Mu Lin looked at Miao Ya, paused for a moment, and then smiled. "Was he really just a driver? Don't forget my Uncle Lin!"
Miao Ya was left speechless.
