My Most Beautiful Fiancée
Chapter 459 458: Jade Pavilion District Again
Mu Lin flicked his hand, sending several silver needles flying. In the blink of an eye, they pierced Chen Zhong's ankles.
The skin on his ankles split open, and the silver needles directly pierced the white tendons.
Instantly, Chen Zhong was immobilized.
His feet hung limply, frozen. He couldn't move at all.
Mu Lin glanced at the Wei grandfather and granddaughter. "Elder Wei, Miss Wei, his ties to you both run deep. You should be the ones to handle him."
Wei Jianjun was utterly astonished. Elder Gu had played him for a fool, but before Mu Lin, Elder Gu could only surrender meekly.
It was a case of one thing conquering another—or more accurately, a complete and total domination.
"Divine Doctor Mu, thank you so much!" Wei Jianjun bowed deeply to Mu Lin before turning to stand with Wei Nianru.
Wei Jianjun stood before Chen Zhong, his gaze cold, his anger palpable.
Chen Zhong knew in his heart he likely wouldn't escape this fate. He began to kowtow desperately.
"Dad, you can't kill me! Jia Ni wouldn't want to see you kill me!"
"I'm your son-in-law! If not for Jia Ni's sake, then for Nianru's! You wouldn't want her to lose her father, would you?"
Wei Jianjun felt sick just hearing those words. How could Chen Zhong have the gall to say such things?
He lifted his leg and kicked Chen Zhong to the ground. "Don't you dare say my daughter's name! For you to utter it is to desecrate her memory!"
His most beloved daughter, driven by Chen Zhong to take her own life, had fallen from a great height, her features mangled beyond recognition.
She who had loved beauty so much in life ended up choosing the ugliest way to die.
Heaven only knew how deeply Chen Zhong had hurt her.
Wei Jianjun could forgive anyone, but Chen Zhong was the one person he could never forgive.
"What did you plan to do, taking Nianru away? And don't give me any of that nonsense about treating her well. Tell me the truth!"
Chen Zhong burst into loud sobs, begging for Wei Jianjun's sympathy in the most pathetic way imaginable.
"Dad, you've misunderstood me so completely! Dad! I really just wanted to make it up to Nianru!"
Wei Jianjun beat Chen Zhong relentlessly. Chen Zhong was beaten to within an inch of his life, but he still stubbornly stuck to his story.
Wei Jianjun was about to waver, but Mu Lin spoke up. "Elder Wei, you should rest. I'll make him tell the truth himself."
Wei Jianjun frowned. Mu Lin glanced at Wei Nianru. "Miss Wei, please record this."
Wei Nianru quickly opened the recording app on her phone and started recording.
"I wanted to marry Nianru off to the son of a Jade Pavilion District executive. That way, I could trade her for higher status and more resources!"
'Just as I thought,' Wei Nianru's heart filled with resentment. 'Why did I have to have a father like this?'
Furious, Wei Jianjun slammed a fist into Chen Zhong's chest. Chen Zhong coughed up blood and was on the verge of passing out.
But the effect of the hypnotism also vanished.
"You... you! If you were just a bit of a scoundrel, I could write it off as your nature and let it be. But to actually sell your own daughter for fame and fortune... do you have any humanity left at all?"
Chen Zhong spoke with contempt. "Save your breath. The Jade Pavilion District won't let you off, not one bit! You'd better let me go right now! Otherwise, they'll come and wipe out the entire Wei Family tomorrow!"
Wei Jianjun's expression was cold. At this point, he couldn't care less about the Wei Family.
The entire Wei Family had been thoroughly infiltrated from top to bottom. How could it even be called a family anymore? Chen Zhong's threats were meaningless.
All he wanted was to live a quiet life with his granddaughter.
"Divine Doctor Mu, could you cast that magic again and make him confess all his evil deeds?"
Mu Lin said, "Of course. But wait a moment, I need to stop his bleeding first."
Chen Zhong was covered in wounds and bleeding profusely. If they didn't do something, he might die before he could finish confessing everything.
Under hypnosis, Chen Zhong spilled everything, like beans pouring from a bamboo tube.
Wei Jianjun recorded it all, then handed the evidence over to the Patrol Team. The Patrol Team then took Chen Zhong away.
As for the other experts from the Jade Pavilion District, they had already fled during the chaos. Only Elder Gu remained.
Mu Lin sized Elder Gu up and down. "Why didn't you run?"
But Elder Gu's eyes were fixed on Mu Lin. "Sir," he said, "if I may be so bold, what did you use to make Chen Zhong tell the truth?"
Mu Lin replied, "That was the Soul Control Technique."
Elder Gu blinked, surprised that Mu Lin had answered so readily. With a THUD, he dropped to his knees before Mu Lin. "Sir, I beg a favor of you. If you grant it, my life is yours from this day forward! I will do anything you ask without a second thought!"
Mu Lin was a little surprised that things had taken such a turn.
After a moment of consideration, he said, "Get up."
"Sir, does this mean you're willing to help me?"
Mu Lin said, "If it's within my power, I will certainly help you. If not, it will be very difficult. Are you prepared for either outcome?"
"Yes, yes, yes," Elder Gu said, extremely excited.
"Sir, I can see you are very knowledgeable about curses. Do you know how to break them?"
'This request is getting more specific,' Mu Lin thought.
Elder Gu was asking how to break one.
Mu Lin smiled. "I'd at least need to know what kind of curse it is."
Elder Gu said hurriedly, "Sir, my granddaughter was afflicted with the Soul Detention Ban by Uncle Zhou. Do you know of it?"
Mu Lin nodded slowly. "Right. A simple enough technique. I can get rid of it. You don't need to be so nervous."
Elder Gu was overjoyed.
"Sir, I implore you to act!"
Mu Lin said, "Let's go."
The Wei Family's problems were mostly resolved. Wei Jianjun would handle the few remaining details meticulously.
There wouldn't be any issues. Mu Lin was confident about that.
Mu Lin followed Elder Gu to his residence.
Mu Lin replayed Elder Gu's previous actions in his mind.
He realized that Elder Gu wasn't a truly evil man, rotten to the core.
He always left some leeway in his actions.
Although Mu Lin already knew what had happened, he still wanted to ask him directly:
"Elder Gu, with your level of cultivation, you could have killed Elder Wei in an instant. Why didn't you?"
Elder Gu sighed heavily. "Why would I? Would I do that just because I had nothing better to do? I'm not some dog of the Jade Pavilion District. Why should I blindly follow their orders?"
"I only work for the Jade Pavilion District to save my granddaughter. Why would I need to do something so wicked and unjust?"
"In the beginning, I had already knocked Wei Jianjun unconscious. I thought that would be enough. But Chen Zhong wasn't satisfied and insisted on bringing experts to finish the job..."
"If you hadn't intervened, I'm afraid Wei Jianjun would be dead by now!"
Mu Lin sighed, deeply moved. "In that case, the situation was truly lamentable."
They chatted as they walked into an ordinary residential complex.
Elder Gu opened the door. A young woman in her twenties was sitting by the window, staring blankly outside.
Her expression was vacant. Although she was very beautiful, she now held no appeal.
One could only feel a deep sense of pity.
"Mr. Mu, this is my granddaughter, Gu Qiang."
Mu Lin stepped forward to examine her. "Your assessment was correct. It is indeed the Soul Detention Ban. Fortunately, not much time has passed, so the effects aren't that severe."
Seeing Mu Lin's professional demeanor, Elder Gu breathed a long sigh of relief.
Mu Lin was a man who got things done, and he had accurately identified the name of the curse.
The Soul Detention Ban is a low-level but particularly vicious curse. Among less-skilled practitioners, it's actually an extremely common technique.
Mu Lin took action. After his quick work, the light returned to Gu Qiang's eyes.
She looked around dazedly. "Grandpa!"
Elder Gu rushed to Gu Qiang's side and threw his arms around his granddaughter.
"My dear granddaughter! You're finally alright!"
Mu Lin sighed. 'After having your soul detained, you don't really have a concept of time.'
So from Gu Qiang's perspective, her grandfather had just embraced her out of the blue, which must have been quite startling.
Elder Gu quickly explained the whole story. Gu Qiang said in astonishment,
"I can't believe so much has happened... To think my soul was actually detained by a villain... Mr. Mu, thank you so much for saving me!"
Mu Lin smiled and waved his hand. "It was nothing. I simply saw that your grandfather's conscience wasn't completely lost and hoped he could become a good person."
"Elder Gu, now that I've solved your problem, you can't work for the Jade Pavilion District anymore!"
Since Gu Qiang's soul had been detained, the Jade Pavilion District could hardly escape responsibility.
