My Most Beautiful Fiancée
Chapter 443 442: More Money Than Sense
Mu Lin's expression hardened. Just as he was about to berate them, Jinren said hastily,
"We got permission to go to the island. Pei Yuliang said he wanted to bring you along, but we thought that was a waste, so we made him give us fifteen million…"
Mu Lin glanced at Pei Yuliang. "You did this?"
Pei Yuliang hung his head, wishing he could bury it under the sofa cushions.
He'd spent a fortune, only for Mu Lin to have already left, and on top of that, they never had any intention of keeping their promise.
It made him look like a complete moron.
Mu Lin shot Pei Yuliang a few more glances. "You have way too much time on your hands."
Pei Yuliang was mortified and had nothing to say for himself.
Mu Lin didn't have much to say to Pei Yuliang, either. He understood the younger man's intentions, of course—he was just trying to help him out, to give him a chance to get on the island.
He just turned to the others. "You came up with this? Bullying an honest man like this?"
"No!" Jinren said quickly. "It was Zhu Qi's idea! I was against it!"
Zhu Qi shot Jinren a glare, pointing a finger at him as she scolded, "Jinren, you don't have the guts to own up to what you've done! Without your approval, would we have dared to do it? Huh?"
Mu Lin glanced at Zhu Qi. He remembered her clearly from the day before. She had been utterly disdainful of both him and Pei Yuliang, acting as if no one from outside the East Sea was worthy of breathing the same air.
Rotten to the core.
Mu Lin pointed at Zhu Qi. "You, give Pei Yuliang thirty million as an apology. The rest of you will give him ten million each. Go tell your families!"
"If you can't pay up, none of you are leaving this room today."
Zhu Qi's expression changed drastically. 'Why should I be the one facing this kind of threat?'
'It's unbearable.'
"I don't have any money! You might as well kill me if you want that much! My family will never, ever let you get away with this!"
Mu Lin's gaze was glacial, locking onto Zhu Qi.
Seeing this, her friend's heart leaped into her throat. For a split second, she truly believed Mu Lin was about to kill Zhu Qi.
She quickly cried out, "I'll pay her share for her!"
Zhu Qi snapped, "I don't need you to! I'd rather…"
Her friend quickly restrained the hysterical Zhu Qi, stopping her from saying anything more.
Mu Lin grunted. "Fine. As long as the compensation is paid in full, I don't care who it comes from."
The other rich kids in the room were incredibly tense.
Jinren, the strongest among them, had already backed down. The others couldn't even begin to imagine how they might defy Mu Lin.
They had completely lost their nerve.
Pei Yuliang watched in disbelief as money flooded his account.
Before long, he had more money than his entire family.
Wealthy enough to rival his own house.
His family had a great reputation in Di Yang, but they weren't especially wealthy.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have been forced to stand by and watch as Mu Lin bought the raw stone out from under them. And while the stone's final purpose wasn't what he had imagined, the incident still highlighted that his family's finances were nothing to write home about.
This money was truly significant.
"Let's go." Mu Lin nodded at Pei Yuliang. Thrilled, Pei Yuliang agreed, and the two left in high spirits.
'What just happened?'
After the pair left, the others seemed to come back to life, exchanging glances.
No matter how you looked at it, Mu Lin was terrifying.
Jinren braced a hand on the table, panting for breath. The tension had been almost too much to bear.
The others shot looks of deep dissatisfaction at Zhu Qi, but no one said a word.
The mistake Zhu Qi had made was already big enough; saying anything more would be pointless.
Zhu Qi and her friend left first. Jinren, however, still had to take Grandmaster Jiao back with him.
He had to bring the man himself back to prove to the family elders that Mu Lin had indeed crippled Grandmaster Jiao.
Otherwise, his family would likely pursue Mu Lin relentlessly.
Mu Lin and Pei Yuliang arrived at the train station. Pei Yuliang looked at Mu Lin with a serious expression. "Brother Mu, you should give me your bank account number. I'll transfer the money to you."
Mu Lin smiled. "Just keep it and spend it yourself. The money is useless to me."
"Brother Mu, aren't you putting me in a difficult position?"
Mu Lin replied just as seriously, "I'd say you're the one making things difficult for me! If you insist on transferring me the money, then I won't treat your grandfather. You can go find some other famous doctor!"
Pei Yuliang panicked. Where was he supposed to find another famous doctor for his grandfather now?
'Isn't that just asking for trouble?'
"No, please don't! I won't transfer it, I won't! Is that okay?"
Mu Lin smiled. "That's better."
The two were at the train station. Pei Yuliang pulled out his phone and excitedly called his grandfather. "Grandpa! I found the Thunderstruck Wood! And I even found a famous doctor who knows how to use it!"
Old Mr. Pei Zhenjun was delighted by his grandson's news. "You've really put your heart into this. However, I've already arranged for a disciple of Sun the Saint Hand to treat me."
Pei Yuliang was stunned. "A disciple of Sun the Saint Hand?"
He knew that in Da Xia, the Medical Dao had three ancient, unbroken lineages: the Hua Family, the Sun Family, and the Zhang Family.
The Zhang Family's lineage was reclusive and rarely seen, while the Hua and Sun Families were the most renowned.
For a disciple of the Sun Family to come and treat his grandfather was a tremendous honor!
"That's right. It's all been arranged. She's coming over this afternoon. With her exquisite skills, I should be able to recover my former glory."
Pei Yuliang rubbed his hands in excitement. "If she's a disciple of Sun the Saint Hand, then there's no doubt you'll be fine!"
"You should hurry back with the Thunderstruck Wood. It's extremely rare. We'll store it in the ancestral hall for now. That way, if we ever need it, we can retrieve it for an emergency."
After hanging up, Pei Yuliang turned to Mu Lin. "Brother Mu, my grandfather managed to contact a disciple of Sun the Saint Hand! He's sure to be cured any moment now!"
Mu Lin smiled. "Is that so? I'm very happy for him."
Pei Yuliang was also thrilled. "I wonder what the successor to a Divine Doctor is like. I'll have to get a good look."
Mu Lin remained calm. He'd long heard that Da Xia's two great schools of divine medicine were constantly at odds.
'Still, to be so widely recognized, they must have real ability.'
Their high-speed train was due to arrive very soon, and it pulled in after just a short wait.
The two boarded the train and settled into the spacious business-class seats, chatting and relaxing, enjoying the journey.
「As they were making their way back, the disciple of Sun the Saint Hand had already arrived at the Pei Family's estate.」
When the Pei Family went out to greet her, they were all quite shocked.
This disciple of Sun the Saint Hand was, to their surprise, a young woman. She was beautiful, with an extraordinary bearing, her every gesture exuding an air of confidence.
Such a presence was truly admirable.
Pei Zhenjun's son was named Pei Jianhua, and his daughter-in-law, Li Sujuan, was a Di Yang local and an incredibly distant relative of the Li Family.
The Divine Lady Doctor stepped forward, a smile gracing her otherwise somber expression.
"Mr. Pei, it's a pleasure. I am Ling Qiao, a member of Squad Eight of the Military Suppression Bureau's Nanjiang Group."
Pei Zhenjun said in surprise, "I never imagined the Saint Hand's prized disciple would be such a young and beautiful heroine! And you say you serve in the Military Suppression Bureau? Truly remarkable!"
Ling Qiao smiled faintly. "Few people know of my origins. Otherwise, my door would have been kicked down by all the people who have lost to me."
Pei Zhenjun sighed. "I can imagine. I had to go through the provincial governor just to find you!"
The Pei Family invited Ling Qiao into their villa.
Ling Qiao immediately began a detailed examination of Pei Zhenjun.
After a thorough examination, Ling Qiao's brow furrowed deeply. "The previous doctors all misdiagnosed you! Elder Pei, your illness isn't a problem with your meridians at all. There is a sinister, cold toxic qi that has gathered in your body."
"This toxic qi has the effect of freezing and numbing your meridians, which is why your cultivation has been unable to progress ever since you were afflicted."
Ling Qiao's words made Pei Zhenjun roar with laughter. "Excellent, excellent! That's exactly it! Many of the symptoms I described to you were fabricated. I just wanted to see if you had the skill to match your reputation!"
"And now I see you do! I can rest easy!"
'Father is being far too reckless with his own health,' Pei Jianhua thought, opening his mouth to reprimand him.
Seeing this, Ling Qiao smiled. "Then it's settled. However, we cannot rush the treatment. I will prescribe you a potent medicinal formula to regulate your yin and yang. Once the two energies are in harmony, I will return to administer the full treatment."
Pei Zhenjun asked tentatively, "Would Thunderstruck Wood be of any use? I heard it's quite effective, which is why I sent my grandson to search for it. He even managed to find a few pieces. I was thinking that if you knew how to use it, Miss, the results might be even better!"
