Chapter 336 335: Ghost Saber

Mu Lin arrived at the base of the company building just in time to see Tao Xinxin walking out with a spring in her step.

Tao Xinxin was thrilled to see Mu Lin. He was practically her savior; he had helped her out so much.

She ran over. "Mu Lin!"

The moment Mu Lin saw Tao Xinxin, he knew what she had been doing and said with a smile,

"Just had your interview? Looks like it went well."

Tao Xinxin tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, revealing her fair neck and delicate ear.

"It went great! President Li was very pleased with me. The only thing is, all my experience is from overseas, so she's worried I might have trouble adjusting. She's giving me some time to get acclimated and starting me as an associate director, but with a full director's salary and benefits. Once the trial period is over, I'll get the official promotion!"

Mu Lin smiled faintly. "Congratulations!"

"Thank you so much for giving me such a great opportunity. Working at a thriving company like the Li Group is a chance that's hard to come by!"

But Mu Lin didn't take the credit. "Your own abilities proved everything. If you didn't have the skills, there's nothing I could have done to help, no matter how much I wanted to. Right?"

Tao Xinxin said, "No matter what you say, I have to treat you to dinner! Find me after work. I'll take you out for something nice."

Mu Lin looked conflicted. "Look at you, spending extravagantly before you've even earned a paycheck..."

Tao Xinxin said earnestly, "Of course I have to! My conscience wouldn't be clear otherwise! I'm begging you, please just let me do this."

'Why is she being so dramatic? If I don't agree, I'll be the bad guy.'

"Okay, okay. I'll make some time and come find you tonight."

Back in the Special Team's office, Chen Xi and the others were chattering about something.

"Did you guys hear? We have a new Finance Director, and she's a knockout!"

"She's gorgeous, has a pleasant voice, and seems really sweet. Absolutely perfect."

Zhou Yu said disdainfully, "Brother Xi, you say that about every attractive woman. Let me ask you, how does she compare to President Li?"

'That's a loaded question,' Chen Xi thought. 'This Zhou Yu is up to no good!'

"You're trying to get me in trouble! You're throwing me to the wolves! If I answer wrong and President Li finds out, I'm toast!"

"What are you talking about? I'm just asking a simple question. Just say whether she's as pretty!"

"She really is on President Li's level, it's a toss-up. Go see for yourself and you'll know." Chen Xi started to push Zhou Yu towards the door, but it opened on its own, and Mu Lin walked in.

"Where are you two going?"

Chen Xi sidled up to him. "Brother Lin, you just got back. Did you see our new Finance Director?"

Mu Lin said, "I did."

Chen Xi leaned in. "Is she pretty? How does she compare to our President Li?"

Mu Lin reached out and smacked Chen Xi on the forehead. 'He's trying to palm off a question he's too scared to answer himself. Isn't he just trying to throw me to the wolves?'

"You little punk, you're up to no good!"

Chen Xi didn't get angry at being hit. Instead, he just cozied up again and asked, "So what do you think? How is she?"

"She's pretty great..."

Chen Xi sighed. "It's a shame I didn't get a chance to talk to her. I don't even know her name, let alone if she has a boyfriend."

Mu Lin said, "Tao Xinxin. What's so difficult about finding that out?"

The entire office suddenly fell silent. Several pairs of eyes stared intently at Mu Lin.

"Brother Lin, how do you know her name?"

Mu Lin said, "She's a friend of mine. I was the one who recommended her to President Li."

This... Everyone was dumbfounded.

But a moment later, it all made sense. After all, this was Mu Lin. Was it really that strange for him to be involved with the beautiful new Finance Director?

When it was time to leave work, Li Xue was still busy in her office. It was clear she'd be working late.

Mu Lin didn't say anything and went straight to meet up with Tao Xinxin.

Tao Xinxin looked Mu Lin up and down, then glanced at the employees coming and going around them before suddenly smiling.

"The two of us going out to eat like this... you think it'll start rumors at the company?"

Mu Lin laughed. "I don't think so. They wouldn't dare."

Tao Xinxin wrinkled her nose. "Listen to you, Mr. Big Shot."

The two went to a restaurant for dinner. Afterward, Mu Lin offered to take Tao Xinxin home, but she clearly wasn't ready for the night to end.

"I want to walk around some more. Come on!"

"Alright," Mu Lin said.

As they walked, Tao Xinxin said, "After all those years abroad, the country has changed so much. I almost don't know how to live here anymore."

Mu Lin scratched his head. "I know the feeling. When I came to the city from my village a month ago, I didn't understand anything and had no idea what to do."

"The city? A village?" Tao Xinxin looked Mu Lin up and down, still not quite understanding what he was talking about.

"Oh, my hometown is a quiet little mountain village. I only came down from the mountain this time to follow my master's orders and repay a favor."

Tao Xinxin tilted her head. "Is the village fun? Is your master there? Can I meet him?"

Mu Lin chuckled. "Life in the village is pretty monotonous. Unless they have no other choice, very few people would want to live there."

Tao Xinxin said, "But you did, didn't you?"

Mu Lin sighed. "I guess I'm one of the rare few."

The atmosphere was pleasant, but Mu Lin's expression suddenly grew serious. He grabbed Tao Xinxin and pulled her sharply to the side.

Tao Xinxin asked hurriedly, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing," Mu Lin said. "Don't worry. They're here for me."

With that, Mu Lin swept Tao Xinxin up into his arms. Her face instantly flushed red, and she reflexively wrapped her arms around his neck.

Mu Lin took off at a sprint, the wind howling past their ears.

A moment later, Mu Lin and Tao Xinxin arrived in a secluded area.

"Where are we?" Tao Xinxin asked.

Mu Lin didn't answer, instead moving to shield her behind him.

Mu Lin's gaze was locked onto a figure who reeked of blood.

"Are you Ghost Saber?"

The man, holding a blood-red long saber, fixed his eyes on Mu Lin, the killing intent in his gaze unwavering.

"You destroyed my Blood Crystal. I'll take your life to make up for it! I will slaughter your entire clan!"

Ghost Saber!

'So it really is him?'

Mu Lin had only been making a wild guess, figuring he might as well take a shot in the dark. After all, that previous attack had carried the distinct, profound air of a Grandmaster.

But for the man to actually be Ghost Saber... it felt like he'd struck gold.

The fissure in the ground was massive, like a greedy mouth that had split open, wanting to devour everything.

The crater was a full seven meters wide and a meter and a half deep. Most importantly, the ground here was hard limestone.

To be able to gouge out a crater like that... if that attack had landed on a person, how devastating would it have been?

It was impossible to imagine.

Tao Xinxin was scared to death. She had been in a shooting incident while abroad, but even that hadn't been this terrifying!

"Mu Lin, who is this?"

Mu Lin said with a small smile, "Ghost Saber. Have you heard of him?"

Tao Xinxin shook her head blankly. "No, but just from the name, I can tell he's some kind of heinous villain."

"Your feeling is correct. He is a huge villain, the kind that's rotten to the core. He's also a regular on the most-wanted lists. And it looks like we've just run into him."

Tao Xinxin's heart was pounding in her chest.

"Is he strong? How strong?"

"He's manageable. Nothing I can't handle. You can stand to the side and wait. I'll take care of him as quickly as I can!"

Hearing Mu Lin say that, Tao Xinxin, though not daring to face Ghost Saber directly, suppressed her fear and hid behind him.

"Can't we just keep running?"

"We can't escape. We ran this far, and he still caught up."

Mu Lin's eyes suddenly lit up. He seemed to have realized something he'd been overlooking.

'How did Ghost Saber find me? This is unbelievable!'

But facing Ghost Saber, Mu Lin could only push the question down for now and find a chance to check himself over later.

Mu Lin found this laughable. He pointed at Ghost Saber and sneered, "You used the lifeblood of innocent people to cultivate that Blood Crystal. Do you have any idea how many lives you've destroyed?"

"I destroyed the Blood Crystal to rid the world of a menace. Why shouldn't I have?"

Ghost Saber retorted, "They were just mere mortals. They would have died of old age in a few years anyway. What's the big deal?"
