My Most Beautiful Fiancée
Chapter 250 249: Military Suppression Bureau
Bai Jingjing broke out in a cold sweat as he listened, but he couldn't refute Mu Lin.
When he thought back on his past, he wanted to slap himself.
After a moment, a group of people arrived.
Mu Lin sensed something was off and looked over.
There were seven people in the group, all of them quite powerful. Even the weakest among them had cultivated Inner Strength.
"The Bai Family suffered such a disaster?! What in the world happened?"
The middle-aged man leading the group wore a grim expression. The sights he had seen on his way here were utterly horrifying.
In all his years, this ranked among the most tragic scenes he had ever witnessed.
Bai Jingjing wanted to answer, but an odd feeling in his chest made it difficult to speak.
He had probably strained himself while talking to Mu Lin.
The middle-aged leader had already turned to Mu Lin. "Sir, when did you get here? Did you see what happened? And who are you? Why are you here at the Bai Family Manor?"
Mu Lin glanced at the leader. "That's a lot of questions. Which one do you want me to answer?"
A team member behind the man grew angry at Mu Lin's attitude and was about to curse out loud, but the leader stopped him.
"What happened?"
"Someone attacked this place," Mu Lin said. "Can't you tell?"
His tone was just as abrasive as before, making everyone's skin crawl.
'This Mu Lin guy is unbelievable. Who dares to talk to the captain like that?'
Yet the captain patiently continued, "So you know what happened?"
He said, "I'm Gu Wu. Your dedication to saving lives is admirable. May I ask which master you studied under?"
"I'm Mu Lin," he replied. "I have no master."
"How could you have such incredible skills without a master?"
"My master told me not to say. Is that good enough for you?"
One of Gu Wu's men finally lost his patience and snapped.
"Show some respect! Take a good look at who we are! We're the Military Suppression Bureau! We oversee every Martial Artist in the world, and nothing escapes our notice!"
"If you don't cooperate, we'll haul you into the Military Suppression Bureau's office and take our time with the questions!"
"And once you're inside our doors, you don't get to decide when you leave!"
Mu Lin let out a cold laugh. "Oh?"
The others around him also grew angry, cracking their knuckles and getting ready to teach Mu Lin some manners.
"Hey, kid, you heard him! Spit it out, or we'll make you sorry!"
That just made Mu Lin want to ignore them even more.
Even Gu Wu's considerable patience was worn thin by Mu Lin's attitude.
He didn't restrain his men this time, deciding to let them rough Mu Lin up a bit before stepping in to control the situation.
'He had come here today to ask the Bai Family for help, but now things had come to this. What was the point?'
A young man at the Early-stage of Internal Strength smirked cruelly. He balled his hand into a fist and threw a straight punch at Mu Lin.
This one punch would be enough to give Mu Lin a world of hurt.
Seeing the man was serious about attacking, Mu Lin's own True Qi began to stir.
He was about to teach these ignorant fools a painful lesson.
But just then, a sharp glint of light flew from out of nowhere, heading straight for the young Martial Artist.
Gu Wu sensed it. His expression changed drastically as he roared, "Get out of the way!"
The young man threw himself aside with all his might, narrowly dodging.
The glint of light grazed his neck as it passed.
That was close. Way too close.
If he hadn't moved, the young man would have been killed instantly.
But the residual force still sliced open the skin on Gu Wu's palm, and large drops of blood began to fall.
But Gu Wu paid it no mind. He cupped his fist in the direction of the attack and called out.
"Which master is present? Would you honor us by revealing yourself?"
Mu Lin, however, found himself taking a couple of steps in the direction the attack had come from.
A stooped old man parted the trees with a Tang Blade and walked out before them.
Mu Lin's gaze was fixed on him. The old man was ancient.
His back was bent like a shrimp's, and his entire body was covered in wrinkles.
Everyone looked on in disbelief. Such a fierce attack had come from this stooped old man.
Mu Lin, however, had a guess. The man's appearance somewhat matched Pan Tianhai's description.
'Isn't Elder Bai a Swordsman? And I know he faked his death.'
With just those two clues, the old man's identity was obvious.
"I am Bai Zhenshan. This young friend saved my Bai Family. You have no more questions for him."
Gu Wu gasped when he heard the name.
'Bai Zhenshan isn't dead? If this is true, the entire Martial World is in for a shake-up.'
"Our apologies for the disturbance! We'll leave at once!"
After bowing, Gu Wu led his team away in a hurry, not daring to say another word.
"Wait!" Bai Zhenshan said suddenly.
Gu Wu stopped dead in his tracks, thinking Bai Zhenshan had changed his mind.
But then he heard Bai Zhenshan say, "The Bai Family and the Military Suppression Bureau don't mix. Don't come bothering me again, or I'll be the one to deal with you!"
Gu Wu felt a chill on his neck. He couldn't help but reach up and touch it, sighing in relief when he confirmed his head was still attached.
"Understood!"
And in the blink of an eye, they were gone.
Once the men from the Military Suppression Bureau were all gone, Bai Zhenshan turned and bowed to Mu Lin.
"Thank you! Without you, I'm afraid the Bai Family would have been finished!"
Mu Lin helped him up and returned the bow. "There's no need for that. I can see your Qi and Blood are weak, not at all what one would expect from a legendary master. Could there be a problem with your cultivation? Perhaps an issue with your famed Sword Skill?"
Bai Zhenshan was stunned, his breathing becoming ragged. "Young friend, you can see my problem? You are truly incredible!"
Mu Lin smiled. "Just observation. The fundamentals."
But Bai Zhenshan pressed, "Then do you know how to treat me? This affliction is driving me mad."
"Alright, I'll give it a try," Mu Lin said. "But I have to be clear, you've had this condition for a long time. I'd say there's only a seventy to eighty percent chance of success."
Right now, Bai Zhenshan's Qi and Blood were depleted, and his body was completely emaciated. He was just an extremely frail old man.
'Saving someone in this state,' Mu Lin thought, 'is a desperate gamble.'
'Sometimes you really don't know what's going to happen.'
'If anything goes wrong, it'll be a huge mess.'
'Bai Jingjing had already gone crazy over this old man once.'
'Now that he has him back, he'll treasure him even more. If the old man died again, Mu Lin wouldn't be surprised by any crazy thing Bai Jingjing might do.'
'He might even try to take me down with him.'
'Though the chance of that wasn't very high.'
When Bai Jingjing heard "seventy to eighty percent," his heart sank.
"That's all?! Don't you dare harm my father!"
Bai Zhenshan grabbed the scabbard of his Tang Blade and whacked Bai Jingjing on the head.
"You wretched son! Do you not even care about your own father's life?"
Bai Jingjing was mortified. "Dad, I'm trying to look out for you!"
Bai Zhenshan pointed at Bai Jingjing. "Look out for me, my ass! If you want what's good for me, you'll stay out of this! My cultivation went awry, and now my entire body is in constant pain. I was about to end my own life! Now there's a chance to be cured, and you won't even let me try?"
Hearing how much his father had been suffering, Bai Jingjing's face filled with a complex expression.
Bai Zhenshan frowned, sizing up Bai Jingjing. "I thought the Bai Family would be safe in your hands. Even if you couldn't make it prosper, I thought you could at least maintain it. I never expected you to be so utterly useless!"
Bai Jingjing opened his mouth to protest. "That's not it, I tried my best, but my brothers..."
"You are the Patriarch! No matter what happens to the Bai Family, you bear the ultimate, undeniable responsibility!"
Bai Zhenshan's words terrified Bai Jingjing, who nodded repeatedly. "Yes! Yes! You're right to scold me. I truly didn't do enough!"
Bai Zhenshan couldn't be bothered with him anymore and turned back to Mu Lin. "Mu Xiaoyou, I'll be in your hands."
Mu Lin smiled. "No problem. But right now, I still have to treat the wounded. Please, Elder Bai, rest and regulate your breathing for a bit. Once I'm finished here, I'll treat you."
Bai Zhenshan nodded, then immediately took another verbal jab at Bai Jingjing.
"Look at him. He's so much younger than you and can already do so much. And what about you?"
Bai Jingjing was fuming, but there was nothing he could do.
