Chapter 234 233: A Generous Boss

Mu Lin said slowly, "And you, Xu Bing. Your position is a vice role, but your compensation will remain the same. No need to worry about me firing you; we can still afford your salary."

"However, you must do your utmost to teach Tang Shuang every detail of hotel operations. If you can do that, I promise you'll get a 10% raise every year until retirement."

Xu Bing's eyes lit up. He had at least twenty years until retirement. By then, his salary would be a figure far beyond what he could currently imagine.

'Mu Lin really is a generous boss.'

He said hurriedly, "Chairman Mu, don't you worry. I will be sure to turn President Tang into a true professional. I'll teach her everything I know!"

After receiving Mu Lin's promise, he felt completely detached, as if he were above it all. In the end, nothing could affect him now.

Mu Lin nodded. "Good. Then it's settled."

With that, he turned to Tang Shuang. "Miss Tang, what do you think?"

Tang Shuang nodded quickly. "Okay, yes!"

But a moment later, she suddenly came to her senses. 'Wait, something's not right!'

'If I really agree to this, then...'

Tang Shuang asked, feeling a little uneasy, "In that case, Mu Lin... does this mean you're my boss now?"

Mu Lin replied simply, "That's right. Is there a problem?"

He didn't see anything wrong with it. 'It's just a change in title. I won't interfere with the hotel's operations anyway, so what's the big deal?'

Standing nearby, Tang Zhi thought his sister was incredibly lucky to receive such a huge benefit. He was genuinely happy for her.

'So what's with her? Is Tang Shuang actually unhappy about this?'

Tang Shuang also realized she was overthinking it. 'If I have this much energy to spare, shouldn't I be thinking about something else?'

"No, it's nothing. I'm just a little surprised!"

Tang Zhi found that reasonable. His sister had just been a junior office employee, and now she was suddenly the general manager of a fancy hotel, with Mu Lin as her boss.

It was a huge change, so it was perfectly normal for Tang Shuang to feel overwhelmed.

Xu Bing, accustomed to dealing with all sorts of people, was vastly better at reading the situation than they were.

He seemed to have noticed something, but he was just an employee. 'It's always best to say less and make fewer mistakes.'

Mu Lin checked the time. It was getting late, so he told the siblings to head home.

He then went into the hospital to check on Lao Xiang's condition.

It was the middle of the night, and most of the nurses were on break. They shouldn't have let Mu Lin in, but a doctor hurried over. "Are you a relative of Xiang Zhenqiang? Come here!"

Seeing this, the nurse stopped trying to block Mu Lin and let him through.

Mu Lin walked up to the doctor and asked, "How's Lao Xiang?"

The doctor led Mu Lin to the ICU, picked up a form from the window ledge, and handed it to him. "This is a critical condition notice. Go ahead and sign it."

Mu Lin peered through the window and saw several doctors swarming around Lao Xiang, shouting as they worked to save him. The atmosphere was extremely tense.

'But I'm not Lao Xiang's relative. How can I sign this?'

'Besides, is he really about to die?'

"Can I see him?" Mu Lin asked.

The doctor said, "Sign the notice first!"

Mu Lin took it. "If I sign, can I go in?"

The doctor frowned. "What? What would you do in there? I see no reason for you to go inside."

Mu Lin said, "I can save him. Stay out of my way!"

The doctor scoffed, "Bullshit! You can save him? Yeah, right!"

Mu Lin said, "Of course I can. He clearly still has a chance, and I can be the one to save him."

"Get out of my way," the doctor said, clearly angry. "I'm not letting someone like you anywhere near him."

Mu Lin signed the notice and slapped it into the doctor's hand. "Now get out of my way. I have work to do. Don't bother me."

With that, he pulled open the door to the operating room and went right in.

The doctor stood stunned for a moment. How could he let Mu Lin just barge into the room? He quickly rushed in after him.

"Everyone, step aside!" Mu Lin shouted as soon as he entered the operating room.

He startled the doctors and nurses who were in the middle of the emergency procedure.

"Who let him in? Get him out of here, now!"

The lead surgeon shouted. The doctor who had just rushed in from the doorway nodded frantically.

Mu Lin, however, walked straight to the operating table and pulled the IV needle from Lao Xiang's arm.

The doctors stared in disbelief. This man was trying to hasten Lao Xiang's death.

'Is he a friend or an enemy? God, I hope he isn't some old foe disguised as a friend.'

'He's actually here to kill Lao Xiang.'

'But Lao Xiang is just a construction worker. How could he have so many enemies?'

With a flick of his wrist, several silver needles appeared between Mu Lin's fingers. In a flash, he plunged them into Lao Xiang's chest.

Lao Xiang's body convulsed, scaring the doctor half to death. "Hey! What the hell do you think you're doing? Get away from him, or I'm calling the police!"

'This surgery is on my watch. If Lao Xiang dies, no matter the cause, I'll be the one held responsible. I can kiss any future awards or promotions goodbye.'

"Look at the monitor! His ECG is back to normal!" a nurse exclaimed.

The doctors looked and were stunned. The reading was perfectly healthy. Was that still Lao Xiang on the table?

Mu Lin ignored the surrounding doctors. He took out several more silver needles and tapped them into Lao Xiang's body one after another.

True Qi flowed through the silver needles and into Lao Xiang's body, rapidly restoring his life force.

Since Mu Lin had already taken over and was clearly getting results, the other doctors were momentarily speechless.

They just stood aside, their faces grim.

'He's the family member. If he's the one who kills the patient, the responsibility won't fall on us, anyway.'

Mu Lin withdrew his hands, retrieving the silver needles. "He's fine now," he said. "Arrange the best room for him. I have money."

The doctors exchanged glances.

"Sir, Xiang Zhenqiang is still in critical condition. I understand you're grieving, but please don't disrespect us doctors. We've spent over a decade in grueling study; we want him to live even more than you do."

Mu Lin said, "I told you, he's fine!"

The medical staff thought Mu Lin had lost his mind. One nurse pointed at Lao Xiang on the bed.

"Look at him. Does he look like he's fine?"

Mu Lin said calmly, "Just go and prepare the room. By the time it's ready, he'll probably be awake."

The doctors all thought Mu Lin was insane.

'What should we do?' they wondered, looking at each other.

'If we do it, we're just indulging his madness.'

'If we don't, he clearly won't let this go.'

Finally, the lead surgeon gritted his teeth. "Fine, give him that empty VIP ward. He said he has money, right? What's wrong with letting him throw some our way!"

He sent a few nurses to prepare the VIP ward.

A short while later, Lao Xiang's eyelids began to twitch. A nurse saw it and cried out, "The patient's reacting! He's opening his eyes!"

The lead surgeon's expression soured. He quickly grabbed a penlight and shone it into Lao Xiang's eyes.

"He's really awake..." The surgeon was left speechless.

'I've been a doctor for over twenty years, and I've never seen anything like this.'

Mu Lin said, "Alright, don't just stand there gawking. Go get some rest. His injuries were indeed severe, so it's understandable you couldn't treat them. Don't be too hard on yourself. You're a pretty good doctor, and very responsible."

Mu Lin's attempt at comforting the doctor just made the man feel incredibly awkward and uncomfortable.

All the doctor could do was quickly arrange for the staff to move Lao Xiang to the VIP ward.

"Is your billing department still open? I want to pay," Mu Lin said.

A nurse led Mu Lin to a kiosk. "You can pay using this machine."

Mu Lin went to the machine and deposited one million into Lao Xiang's account.

"This should cover it for now. If it's not enough, we'll figure it out later."

The nurse's scalp tingled. 'This guy really is a nouveau riche. He's disgustingly rich.'

Mu Lin paused. "What if it's not enough?"

After a few more taps on the screen, he said, "Ten million should be enough, right?"

The nurse was completely numb inside now, assuming Mu Lin was just messing with her.

'You only need to put down a small deposit for medical fees. Why would anyone deposit this much money all at once? What's he trying to do?'

Mu Lin's reasoning was actually very simple. Whatever money was left after the treatment would go to Lao Xiang, allowing him to live a better life.

Even if the treatment cost a million, Lao Xiang would still pocket nine million.

Mu Lin turned and walked to the VIP ward. By then, everything was ready.

"Lao Xiang?"

"Boss!" Lao Xiang mistook him for the head of the Li Group again. "Boss, you're the one who saved me, right?"
