Chapter 158: Finding a Doctor

Master Bai sneered, "Why are you holding him back? Acting like he could actually kill me?"

Zhao Ling'Er stomped her foot. "Brother Mu *is* that amazing! To him, killing you would be like slaughtering a lamb. You'd better wash your neck and wait for it!"

Master Bai roared with laughter, said nothing more, and turned to leave.

"Well, that was boring. Show's over, everyone!"

A middle-aged man walked over and gave Mu Lin a small smile. "Young man! How about we become friends?"

Mu Lin studied him for a moment and recalled that he had said a few words earlier.

Mu Lin glanced at the business card and read the name aloud. "Ding Xiangyang?"

"Wow! Grandpa, it's Ding Xiangyang! President Ding!" Zhao Ling'Er exclaimed, pulling Zhao Yang over.

Zhao Yang was still lost in memories of the past. He was dazed when she pulled him over, but he immediately perked up at the mention of Ding Xiangyang's name.

"President Ding? From Huigui Pharmaceutical? To have achieved so much at such a young age... I must say, I'm truly impressed."

Ding Xiangyang laughed. "You're too kind, too kind! Elder Zhao, you're the one I've always looked up to. A shame I lacked the talent for medicine and had to switch to the pharmaceutical business instead. It's a true honor to even be known by my idol!"

Zhao Yang said, "Don't be so modest. You're already a famous figure. Is there anyone in the medical or pharmaceutical world who doesn't know your name?"

Huigui Pharmaceutical was a rising star in the industry. Several of its flagship drugs were selling exceptionally well, attracting significant attention from the investment community.

Ding Xiangyang grew very excited. "Since you know so much about me, Elder Zhao, I'll get straight to the point. My company is currently looking for an executive to oversee our herbal medicine research and development. Would you be willing to join us?"

Mu Lin rubbed his chin. 'So that was his goal all along.'

Mu Lin couldn't judge Divine Doctor Zhao's clinical skills, but his knowledge of medicinal herbs was undeniably profound.

Mu Lin could tell as much from the homework Divine Doctor Zhao assigned to Ling'Er.

'Honestly, the position is a perfect fit for him.'

But in the end, it was Divine Doctor Zhao's decision to make. It wasn't Mu Lin's place to interfere.

Divine Doctor Zhao paused. After a moment of consideration, he said:

"Well, actually... Never mind..."

In the past, he might have considered the offer as a way to earn some money. But seeing Master Bai again today and having that incident dredged up had left him disheartened.

"I'm getting old. I no longer have the stamina or energy for it. An executive position is out of the question. However, fate brought us together. If you ever need anything, you're welcome to ask me for advice."

Divine Doctor Zhao didn't close the door completely. After all, President Ding ran a large business, and there might be opportunities for collaboration in the future.

Ding Xiangyang sighed. "I understand. That's a real shame."

Mu Lin and the others walked slowly inside, getting ready for the auction.

Meanwhile, Qi Shengyang was in utter agony back in his hotel room.

The pain was gone. Now, it was an itch.

His entire body itched as if a million ants were crawling all over him, gnawing away at his skin.

It was unbearable. Absolutely unbearable.

He frantically called his father, telling him to find the nearest famous doctor and get them over immediately.

"The nearest? Let me see... Divine Doctor Zhao is at Hidden Sword Manor. Should I call him over?"

"No! Don't you dare call him!" 'He's Zhao Ling'Er's grandfather. If I owe him a favor, it'll make it that much harder to marry Ling'Er later.'

Qi Shengyang's mind was racing with his petty schemes.

"Well, Shi Huiguang—Elder Shi—is also there. I can ask him to come over."

"Fine!" Qi Shengyang replied.

A short while later, having received the call, Shi Huiguang rushed to Qi Shengyang's room.

Shi Huiguang had Qi Shengyang remove his shirt, then examined him closely.

His brow furrowed.

"Elder Shi, don't just stand there frowning! Say something!"

After another moment of thought, Shi Huiguang said, "This isn't an illness. Someone's used a technique on you. Resolving it won't be difficult."

Qi Shengyang was thrilled. 'So that's what it was!' No wonder none of the anti-allergy creams he'd bought had worked!

"Then please, Elder Shi, undo it quickly!"

Shi Huiguang waved a hand. "Before I do that, I have to ask: who did you provoke? This person must be a master of the Medical Dao, otherwise, they couldn't have pulled off a technique like this."

He, too, was making his own calculations. If the ignorant Qi Shengyang had truly offended some great senior, Shi Huiguang would turn around and walk right out.

He knew which was worse: offending the bureau chief or offending a great senior.

The bureau chief cared about face; offending him might mean a few days of trouble at most. But offending a great senior in the medical world could mean a lifetime of suffering.

"I'm such an upstanding person, how could I offend anyone? Let alone a master of the Medical Dao..." Qi Shengyang's eyes suddenly widened. "Wait, actually, there is someone! I saw Zhao Yang! I had an argument with him!"

Zhao Yang... When Shi Huiguang heard the name, his eyes lit up.

"This is exactly the sort of thing Zhao Yang would do! He really is that despicable!"

"Let me relieve your suffering first. Then we'll go find that scoundrel Zhao Yang and settle the score!"

With that, Shi Huiguang took out his needles. After a few quick insertions, Qi Shengyang's discomfort subsided.

"Elder Shi, you're a true miracle worker!"

Shi Huiguang waved his hand dismissively. A small matter like this was nothing to him.

His entire focus was now on dealing with Zhao Yang.

He'd been looking for an opportunity to go after Zhao Yang, and now Zhao Yang had just served one up on a silver platter.

'Qi Shengyang is the son of the Health Bureau Chief! How dare you, Zhao Yang?'

The auction was about to begin, and everyone was lining up to enter.

Qi Shengyang and Elder Shi walked along the outside of the line, and it wasn't long before they found Zhao Yang and his companions.

Qi Shengyang rushed over. "Zhao Yang, you've gone too far! I sincerely wish to marry Ling'Er, and you resort to such dirty tricks against me!"

Zhao Yang was confused for a moment. 'Dirty tricks? I didn't do anything!'

In fact, he thought Qi Shengyang was just looking for an excuse to cause a scene and humiliate him!

"Zhao Yang! You despicable, shameless villain!" Elder Shi pushed to the front, practically seething with killing intent.

'This is the perfect chance to settle both old and new scores.'

Hearing that there was more drama to watch, the onlookers eagerly turned their attention to the commotion.

"Elder Shi, what's all this about?"

"This heartless bastard, Zhao Yang, dared to use a malicious technique on Young Master Qi!"

"Just because Young Master Qi exchanged a few unpleasant words with him, Zhao Yang used a deadly technique, causing him unbearable agony! I've examined him. If left untreated for even half a month, Young Master Qi would die from the pain!"

Mu Lin frowned. His plan was only to make Qi Shengyang uncomfortable for a few days, after which the effect would wear off on its own.

'How did it become a deadly technique when coming out of Shi Huiguang's mouth?'

'He must hate Zhao Yang to the bone to be using this opportunity to exaggerate things so wildly.'

Mu Lin stepped forward. "You're Elder Shi, correct? As a doctor who has practiced for many years, surely you know that a person is nothing without their integrity?"

Shi Huiguang's face darkened. 'What is this kid talking about?'

"What are you trying to say? Don't interrupt when adults are speaking!"

But Mu Lin retorted, "The technique I used on Young Master Qi was only meant to make him uncomfortable for a few days—three to four, at most—before it would resolve on its own. How did you twist that into a 'deadly technique'?"

Qi Shengyang's lips twisted into a snarl. "Aha! So it was you! You've admitted it yourself!"

Mu Lin had never intended to hide it. "I only meant to teach you a lesson. It was never meant to be fatal."

But Shi Huiguang cut in, "Kid, stop trying to take the fall for Zhao Yang. What does someone as young as you know? Only an experienced doctor like Zhao Yang could pull off a technique like this!"

Hearing this, Qi Shengyang's expression grew even more twisted.

He glared at Zhao Yang. "So it was you! Let me tell you something—just for hurting me, you can forget about ever opening the Holy Medicine Hall! And you can kiss your medical license goodbye!"

Zhao Yang said, "I didn't know Mu Lin was going to do that, or I would have stopped him. But it truly wasn't me. A doctor's duty is to heal, like a parent caring for a child; I would never intentionally cause someone such suffering."

Shi Huiguang sneered, "And what about Elder Bai? Was he not a person?"

The matter of the Bai Family was brought up again, and Zhao Yang's face grew even more somber. He had lived an upright and honest life, but this was the one incident he could never come to terms with.

Qi Shengyang declared, "My father is the Chief of the Health Bureau! As his son, I can't just stand by and let a malicious quack like you get away with this! I'll tell my father and have him ruin you completely!"

The onlookers exchanged glances. It seemed that after today, Zhao Yang's career as a doctor was finished.

Zhao Ling'Er was terribly worried, clutching her grandfather's hand as tears streamed down her face.

Mu Lin sighed. "I already said I was the one who did it. Why are you so stubborn?"

He raised his hand, drew out a needle, and flicked it toward Qi Shengyang.

The moment it made contact, Qi Shengyang suddenly felt that familiar torment spread throughout his body once more.

The pain... It was excruciating.

"This is it! This is the feeling!" he cried out.

With a howl, Qi Shengyang collapsed to the ground.
