My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Chapter 125: Reversing Fate

  • Next Chapter

Zhang Chunlei leaned against the operating table, completely drained of strength.

He had already given it his all, but he was still powerless to reverse their fate.

Two lives had ended at his hands. How could he possibly face Elder Zhou?

The door opened, and an extremely young man walked to his side.

Zhang Chunlei said, "Young man, don't disturb the peace of the dead."

"They can still be saved," Mu Lin said simply.

Zhang Chunlei gave a bitter laugh. 'If they could still be saved, would I be in this state?'

"There's no hope. Didn't you see? The electrocardiogram isn't even moving."

Mu Lin glanced over and said, "Your application of the Five-Heart Rejuvenation Needle was decent."

Zhang Chunlei felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck his heart.

The Five-Heart Rejuvenation Needle was the pinnacle of his life's work, a secret he never shared with anyone. He never expected a kid this young to see right through it.

"It's a shame it's not the complete technique, or there'd be no need for me," Mu Lin said. With a flick of his hand through the air, the ten needles on Elder Li and Mrs. Li's bodies flew back into his palm.

This move nearly scared the life out of Zhang Chunlei. He spoke, a mixture of shock and delight in his voice:

"You're the one who placed the needles?"

Mu Lin nodded with a faint smile. "I know how difficult it is to treat illnesses and save lives. Thank you, sir, for gambling your career on my grandfather."

'It really is him!' Zhang Chunlei sized up Mu Lin. 'He can't be more than in his early twenties, right? How could he have such skill?'

The fact that he had identified the Five-Heart Rejuvenation Needle by name in a single breath showed that this young man was no ordinary person.

Mu Lin flicked his fingers, and several silver needles landed precisely in their corresponding positions.

All ten were in place!

Mu Lin made a grasping motion with his five fingers, stimulating all ten needles at once.

BEEP... BEEP... BEEP...

The electrocardiogram began to emit a rhythmic sound again, and a fluctuating line reappeared on the screen.

Zhang Chunlei watched, his mouth dry. This technique was simply incredible!

But that wasn't all.

A dozen more silver needles appeared in Mu Lin's hand, and he began to continuously prick them into the patients' bodies.

His technique was extremely fast and precise. Every single movement challenged Zhang Chunlei's decades of experience.

If anyone else Mu Lin's age had tried this, he would have long since scolded them and thrown them out of the operating room.

But Mu Lin was different. He had genuinely saved the two patients.

Besides, both patients were related to him, so Zhang Chunlei couldn't say a single word against it.

Fifteen minutes later, Mu Lin stopped and retrieved all the needles.

The patients were saved, but they were extremely weak and had not yet woken up.

During the procedure, Mu Lin had infused them with a small amount of True Qi to protect their vital heart meridians, which was what ultimately saved them.

Zhang Chunlei was so overjoyed he was on the verge of tears. The two had been saved, and his career was safe as well.

His situation at the hospital wasn't great. If a patient had died on his watch, his rivals would have definitely used it as an excuse to attack him.

At that point, early retirement might have been the best-case scenario. If his opponents were particularly vicious, they might even get his medical license revoked, leaving him unable to even make a living with his skills.

But now, everything was fine. The patients were saved!

"It's a miracle! You are truly incredible, young friend. I am Zhang Chunlei, and I humbly hold the position of Vice President. May I ask for your esteemed name?"

"Mu Lin!"

"Mu Lin, is it! I'll remember that! Young friend, your Acupuncture Technique is simply divine. My decades of practice have all gone to the dogs."

"Senior, you shouldn't be so self-deprecating. If you hadn't fought so hard to keep them breathing, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to turn the tide on my own."

At these words, Zhang Chunlei's lips trembled and he shook his head repeatedly. "A failure is a failure. There's nothing more to say."

"Your Five-Heart Rejuvenation Needle is quite powerful, but it's a shame it's only a fragment of the full technique. It can't even display half of its true power," Mu Lin said with a slight smile. "Otherwise, there would have been no opportunity for me to step in."

Mu Lin had said something similar when he first made his move.

Zhang Chunlei's heart skipped a beat. 'Mu Lin keeps talking about it being a fragment. Could it be that he has the complete version?'

'Why else would he keep mentioning it?'

"Young friend, could it be that you have the complete version?" Zhang Chunlei asked excitedly.

Mu Lin waved his hand. "How could that be possible? I just happened to mention something I heard in the Jianghu rumor mill, and it turned out to be a lucky guess. Your reaction when I said the name confirmed its origin for me."

'Is that really how it was?' Zhang Chunlei thought it over. 'It doesn't seem right. Mu Lin was brimming with confidence the moment he walked into the ICU. He obviously knew something.'

'He's just not willing to tell me right now.'

Zhang Chunlei became vaguely convinced that Mu Lin possessed some profound, secret knowledge but was simply unwilling to teach it.

He would just have to get closer to Mu Lin and see if he might change his tune someday.

Mu Lin pushed the door open, and Li Xue immediately threw herself at him, pounding on his chest. "Why didn't you come sooner? Huh? You let Grandpa and Mom die!"

She was crying as she hit him.

Li Yinhe also yelled, "You're more of a hindrance than a help!"

Mu Lin didn't get angry. He just tilted his head toward Elder Li and Mrs. Li.

"Why don't you go look for yourselves instead of jumping to conclusions?"

Li Xue looked up and saw the electrocardiogram fluctuating steadily. Elder Li and Mrs. Li were also breathing smoothly.

However, both were still in a coma and had yet to wake up.

"They're okay?!" Li Xue exclaimed in shock. "I swear I saw their heart monitors flatline!"

Mu Lin said, "But they've been saved now, haven't they?"

Li Xue excitedly rushed to the edge of the bed, calling out to Elder Li.

"Grandpa! Grandpa!"

Mu Lin walked over and helped her up. "They won't wake up that quickly. Mom should be awake by tomorrow morning, but Grandpa will need to recover for a while longer. It won't be as easy for him."

Li Xue understood. Her grandfather was old, and his body functioned more slowly. It was normal for him to take longer to wake up.

"Miss, please rest assured," Zhang Chunlei added. "With Elder Li and your mother staying in our hospital, under my care, there will be no problems! I will arrange the best possible environment for them!"

Zhang Chunlei was being extremely proactive, partly because of Elder Zhou's request, but also, naturally, to curry favor with Mu Lin.

But Li Xue was still very worried. Given her grandfather's age, and after surviving such a major crisis, whether he could pull through truly felt like it was up to fate.

"Grandpa will be fine. I'm here, aren't I? As soon as I find the right medicine, he'll wake up quickly."

Li Xue stared with her big, glistening eyes. "Really? You're not lying to me, are you?"

Mu Lin chuckled. "When have I ever lied to you?"

"Just now! You were late!"

Li Xue held up her phone to Mu Lin. "You were a full two minutes late!"

Seeing that her grandfather and mother's conditions had improved, her assertive personality resurfaced.

Mu Lin chuckled again. "It was only two minutes. The situation on the road is always unpredictable, you can't be sure of anything. Besides, Grandpa and Mom are fine, aren't they?"

Li Xue pouted. Mu Lin had really managed to act cool and get away with it.

Mu Lin looked at Chen Jingyun. "Captain Chen, thank you for protecting Li Xue. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to freely give chase."

Chen Jingyun quickly waved his hands. "Not at all, not at all, you're being too polite. If I had discovered it sooner, perhaps Elder Li and Madam Li wouldn't have been harmed."

He didn't know how powerful Chen Zhengyang was, and Mu Lin certainly wasn't going to tell him. That Chen Zhengyang was a Dan-rank master, someone far beyond Chen Jingyun's league.

Although they shared the same surname, they weren't actually related—and it was highly unlikely they would be.

"I still have to thank you," Mu Lin said with a smile. "Come on, let me buy you a drink!"

Chen Jingyun waved his hands again and again. "No, I can't. I'm still on duty! If I'm away from my post for too long, the Owners' Committee will definitely give me trouble."

Mu Lin said, "Then perhaps another day."

"Feel free to find me at Phase One anytime."

Chen Jingyun gave Mu Lin a fist-and-palm salute and left.

Zhang Chunlei spared no effort in trying to please Mu Lin. He arranged the best hospital rooms for Elder Li and Mrs. Li and even formed a "care team" of interns, scheduling them to rotate shifts every six hours.

This left Li Yinhe feeling overwhelmed by the favor, and he bowed repeatedly to Zhang Chunlei.

Only after watching his father and wife being settled into their rooms did Li Yinhe relax and leave with Mu Lin and Li Xue.

Dr. Zhu emerged from the other end of the hallway, his eyes filled with malice.

He turned and went to the President's office.

A middle-aged man, older than Dr. Zhu, was busy at his desk.

"Dad, that old bastard Zhang Chunlei got to be the hero again today. He actually managed to save two people who were beaten to a pulp and on the verge of death!"

"When is that guy finally going to get lost!"

The busy middle-aged man shot his son a sharp look. "Didn't I tell you not to just barge in here? This is a hospital!"

Dr. Zhu said, "But I can't swallow this!"

"Get out!"

Dr. Zhu could only leave in disgrace, a venomous light flashing in his eyes. He had to find a way to take Zhang Chunlei down.
