Chapter 98: Chapter 99: Extreme Thunder Shock Saber, Sword Drawing Technique 1st Layer
Su Chen did not leave with Sun Yun immediately. Instead, he waited for Hong Ming and the others to recover their strength and gave them a few instructions before departing.
Sun Yun naturally understood Su Chen’s intentions, but he didn’t mind. If he truly wanted to deal with Hong Ming and the others, he wouldn’t need to go through so much trouble. He could just attack them directly; there was no need to waste his breath.
Shortly after the two left, Hong Ming led Li Mo and Liu Fang away as well.
Along the way, Su Chen and Sun Yun barely spoke. They traveled at a brisk pace and were about to arrive at White Stone City within fifteen minutes. However, due to the heavy security inside, they did not enter the city immediately.
Su Chen looked at Sun Yun and said, "Let’s rely on our own abilities to get into the city. Once inside, we’ll meet at Drunken Immortal Tower at 5:00 PM tonight to share intel and discuss our countermeasures. How does that sound?"
Hearing this, Sun Yun gave Su Chen a surprised look, pondered for a moment, and nodded. "Alright!"
The two parted ways. Sun Yun stared at Su Chen’s receding figure, his gaze profound.
After separating from Sun Yun, Su Chen disguised himself as an elderly man and slipped into the city. Once inside, he took the time to return home. Tao Dingfang hadn’t secretly dispatched anyone to guard the vicinity of his house.
However, while Tao Dingfang didn’t send anyone to monitor his home, he had had the place completely ransacked. Fortunately, the items Su Chen had hidden remained undiscovered. After packing them up, Su Chen left.
He changed into the guise of an honest-looking middle-aged man and walked the streets, observing his surroundings. The Outer City had regained a fraction of its former liveliness, though the number of patrolling Governmental Constables had increased.
Su Chen arrived at the Money Shop. Upon inquiring, he learned that he could exchange for gold now, so he exchanged for ten taels of Gold. With these ten taels of Gold, he could master the Thunder Shock Saber he had obtained from Sun Yun.
While the liveliness had somewhat returned, order had not fully been restored. After Su Chen exchanged the gold and left the Money Shop, he sharply sensed someone tailing him. After spending some time shaking them off, he found an abandoned residence to settle down in temporarily, then pulled out the secret manual.
The cover of the manual bore the words ’Thunder Shock Saber’. After leafing through it and reading it carefully several times to memorize the moves, Su Chen began to practice. Because he had the foundation of the Frenzy Wave Saber Technique, even though his practice was halting and stumbling at first, he managed to execute the routine in its entirety.
Upon finishing the practice, the panel refreshed:
[Martial Arts: ... Thunder Shock Saber (Novice 1%)]
[Simple Mode: ... Thunder Shock Saber 0 times (1 tael of silver/time), Frenzy Wave Saber Technique 0 times (Extreme Thunder Shock Saber/time)]
It wasn’t just the Thunder Shock Saber that had changed; even the Frenzy Wave Saber Technique had undergone a transformation.
He concluded, "That means as long as I train the Thunder Shock Saber to the limit, the Frenzy Wave Saber Technique can unlock the Simple Mode."
Su Chen’s eyes flickered with eagerness. He silently muttered in his heart, "Top up, activate Simple Mode."
Two hours later.
From Novice to the absolute limit, Su Chen swung his blade a total of eight hundred and fifty times, directly grinding the Thunder Shock Saber to its peak.
The panel refreshed again. Just as Su Chen had expected, the Thunder Shock Saber merged with the Frenzy Wave Saber Technique:
[Martial Arts: ... Nameless Saber Technique (Uninitiated 1%)]
[Simple Mode: ... Nameless Saber Technique (100 taels of silver/time)]
Seeing that he could still spend Krypton Gold, Su Chen naturally did so without hesitation, directly upgrading the Nameless Saber Technique to the first level. However, to his surprise, the Nameless Saber Technique could only be upgraded by one level. If he wanted to upgrade it further later on, he would need to fuse it with new saber techniques.
He realized, "Moreover, what needs to be fused isn’t some simple saber technique, but one that contains the Entering the Realm Method."
It should be known that neither the Thunder Shocking Saber Technique nor the Frenzy Wave Saber Technique contained any Entering the Realm Method; they were merely ordinary saber techniques. The fact that the panel’s fusion now required a saber technique with an Entering the Realm Method was enough to show just how precious such techniques were.
He thought, "Let’s test the power of the Nameless Saber Technique."
After upgrading the Nameless Saber Technique, numerous insights regarding the blade surfaced in Su Chen’s mind, making him impatient to test it out. He approached a half-human-tall rockery. Gripping his steel saber, his entire aura abruptly changed.
If a second ago he was just an ordinary Martial Artist, in the next moment, he transformed into a treasured blade about to be unsheathed, instantly revealing his sharp edge.
SWISH!
With a flash of the blade, the unsheathing, slashing, and resheathing were completed in one seamless motion. The aura around his body seemed to condense together, fully converging on the edge of the blade the moment it was drawn. It not only highly concentrated his essence, energy, and spirit but also vividly demonstrated speed, accuracy, and ruthlessness.
A full five seconds passed before the rockery in front of him seemed to react. A smooth cut suddenly appeared where it had been struck, and the top half of the rockery slid down, crashing onto the ground and shattering into pieces.
"What a staggering strike!" Su Chen exclaimed inwardly.
Even he was amazed by this slash that was as fast as lightning and as swift as a thunderbolt. Both its speed and power had nearly reached the absolute limit of what his current strength could unleash. If paired with the Sleeve Saber, even if Tao Dingfang were standing in front of him, Su Chen was confident he could kill him in a single strike by catching him off guard.
He mused, "Taking the enemy’s head in the very act of drawing the blade... How can such a technique be called the Nameless Saber Technique? It’s better to call it the Sword Drawing Technique!"
As he pondered, Su Chen changed the name of the Nameless Saber Technique. The Sword Drawing Technique sounded much more domineering, and it suited the characteristics of this technique perfectly. Unleashing this single slash could take an enemy’s life in the blink of an eye.
He thought, "It’s about time. I should go gather some intel."
Glancing at the sky, he noted there was still some time before sunset. He decided to use this window to ask around for news about Zhang Wan’Er and the others.
After stepping out, Su Chen concealed his weapons well and headed to a tavern. In a place where all sorts of people mingled, it would be much faster to gather information. Sure enough, the events of the previous night had already spread. Many people in the tavern were discussing them.
From their mouths, Su Chen heard the news he was looking for.
Tao Dingfang had convicted the group of Martial Artists in White Stone City of colluding with the Rebirth Sect rebels, issued a city-wide arrest warrant for Su Chen and his companions, and subsequently rounded up all members of the Zhang Family, the Liu Family, and the Fang Family.
Although the Fang Family had never participated in this conflict, the influence of the Broken Blade Sect still remained, and Fang Rou was Hong Ming’s disciple. Naturally, Tao Dingfang did not spare the Fang Family. He had likely anticipated that someone would infiltrate the city to gather intel, so he directly announced the punishment for the captives and let the city’s populace spread the word.
Su Chen also received the exact details: in three days, the Government Office would publicly behead the captives at the marketplace as a warning to others.
After sitting for nearly half an hour, Su Chen finally left. Passing by the Government Office, he merely cast a faint glance at it before withdrawing his attention. He then made his way to the Drunken Immortal Tower.
Sun Yun had not yet arrived, so Su Chen went straight to their designated seats, ordered a table full of food, and waited while eating. Sun Yun was quite punctual, showing up right on the dot.
Seeing a middle-aged man occupying the seat, Sun Yun was mildly surprised, but he quickly recognized Su Chen. Although Su Chen was disguised as a middle-aged man, the disguise had many flaws and couldn’t fool him; he saw through Su Chen at a single glance.
However, he didn’t care. What he valued wasn’t Su Chen’s disguising skills, but his strength. What he didn’t know, however, was that Su Chen had intentionally disguised himself this way. Otherwise, given Su Chen’s current mastery of disguise, Sun Yun might not have been able to recognize him at all.
Sun Yun walked straight over and sat across from Su Chen. Glancing at the food on the table, he smiled faintly. "You certainly eat exquisitely!"
