Chapter 67: Chapter 68: I’m No Villain If I Don’t Take Revenge

"Quick, grab him!"

After a brief moment of shock, Zhang Hong practically roared. This shout instantly snapped the crowd out of their shock from the previous scene. They swarmed toward the man in black.

"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH! I admit defeat this time, but I’ll be back!"

The man in black coughed lightly. Propping himself up with both hands, he abruptly flipped to his feet. He watched the surging crowd and spoke coldly.

"Oh no!"

"Everyone, be careful!"

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Seeing the charging crowd, the man in black sneered and waved his hand. In an instant, several crisp popping sounds exploded. A choking cloud of black smoke suddenly billowed from the ground, instantly blocking everyone’s line of sight.

By the time the thick smoke dissipated, the man in black was nowhere to be seen. The crowd stood rooted in place, looking at each other in dismay.

"Damn it, he got away!"

Li Mo watched this scene, feeling a sense of frustrated loss. Thinking of the man’s parting words, his face grew solemn.

"Li Mo, are you alright?" Zhang Hong sighed softly. Knowing that everyone had tried their best, he hurried over to Li Mo and asked worriedly.

"I’m fine," Li Mo said, shaking his head. "Just some minor injuries."

As he spoke, Li Mo looked at Su Chen with a complicated expression. His former junior martial brother had now surpassed him in strength. This time, it was all thanks to Su Chen. Otherwise, dealing with the man in black wouldn’t have been so simple.

Su Chen returned the treasure box to Li Mo. Li Mo opened it and saw that the ginseng was still inside, instantly breathing a sigh of relief.

"Su Chen, I owe you for this one!" Li Mo turned to Su Chen, his tone filled with gratitude.

"Yes, thank you, Young Master Su!"

Zhang Hong had only heard Li Mo mention Su Chen’s excellent talent before. He hadn’t expected Su Chen’s strength to be this formidable—even the Flying Thief was no match for him. If he had befriended Su Chen previously because of Li Mo, this time he was genuinely willing to build a connection with him.

Su Chen waved his hand. "It was no trouble at all. You don’t need to be so polite, Li Mo." Pausing for a moment, he warned, "However, you should be careful in the coming days. Beware of the Flying Thief striking again."

"Right." Zhang Hong and Li Mo exchanged a glance and nodded heavily.

With the matter temporarily resolved, Zhang Hong didn’t neglect the crowd. He politely thanked them for their help and presented them with modest gifts.

The crowd gradually dispersed. Su Chen also prepared to take his leave. Zhang Hong and Li Mo escorted him to the door, watching his retreating figure fade into the distance.

"Li Mo, you really have a good eye for people. Su Chen’s future will likely be limitless," Zhang Hong said with a smile, stroking his beard.

Li Mo nodded, a hint of astonishment lingering in his eyes. Even he had been surprised by Su Chen’s performance tonight.

"The matter with the Flying Thief isn’t over yet," Li Mo said. "We still need to be careful for the time being."

"I know."

Meanwhile.

"Damn it! If it weren’t for that kid, tonight’s operation would have been a success!"

On top of a house, a hidden figure lay prone. Staring at Su Chen’s retreating back, he cursed under his breath.

"It’s all his fault that I failed. Hmph, since you want to be a busybody, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

Nimble and light on his feet, he kept his eyes locked on Su Chen and trailed him all the way, soon discovering that Su Chen had entered a courtyard. Since he had decided to seek revenge against Su Chen, he wasn’t one to wait until the next day.

Normally, he would stake out the location and figure out his target’s background. But that was for large mansions. Su Chen’s courtyard might look decent to others, but to him, it posed no challenge at all. From a high vantage point, he could take in the entire layout of the courtyard at a glance. There was no need for deliberate, hidden observation.

After a quick scan under the faint moonlight, he memorized the courtyard’s layout. Then, he waited. Just like a cheetah hunting a rabbit required immense patience, so did he.

Even after Su Chen extinguished his oil lamp and went to sleep, the man in black still didn’t make a move. As the night deepened, the entirety of White Stone City fell into complete silence. The hazy moonlight draped a thin, white veil over the city.

"It’s about time."

Finally, estimating that the time was right, the man in black slowly rose. He crossed the street and vaulted over the wall, entering Su Chen’s courtyard without making a single sound.

The entire yard was dead silent, devoid of any noise from poultry or livestock—perfect for his line of work. He didn’t immediately enter Su Chen’s room. Instead, he approached the window and pulled a fingernail-sized bead from his robes. Glancing inside, he flicked the bead through the window. The moment it hit the ground, it began emitting wisps of white smoke.

It didn’t take long for the white smoke to drift over Su Chen’s bed. The man in black waited outside for ten breaths before peering back into the room. The white smoke quickly dissipated, revealing Su Chen lying on the bed, asleep like a log.

Seeing this, the man in black sneered. He pushed the window open and vaulted inside.

"This doghouse is so damn pathetic!"

Looking at the room’s extremely simple furnishings, the man in black couldn’t help but shake his head. Even the worst place he had ever lived in was better than this. After surveying the room for a moment, he finally shifted his gaze to Su Chen and tiptoed toward the bed.

With each step, his eyes grew colder. By the time he reached the bedside, his gaze was completely icy. Without a shred of hesitation, the man in black slowly raised his hand and slapped it toward Su Chen’s head.

CLANG!

"You’re not unconscious?"

The seemingly asleep Su Chen abruptly opened his eyes, blocking the attacker’s strike with one hand. The man in black’s expression changed drastically.

Su Chen didn’t bother to reply. Instead, he struck out swiftly, landing a palm strike square on the man’s abdomen. Instantly, the man in black felt his stomach churn wildly. A terrifying surge of power invaded his body, threatening to tear his internal organs apart and forcing a painful, low growl from his throat.

"A Power Training Martial Artist!"

Taking the brunt of Su Chen’s attack, the man in black blurted out the words, traces of horror filling his eyes.

He thought, "Damn it, how could I be so unlucky? The random guy I try to kill turns out to be a Power Training Martial Artist!"

At this moment, he had no time to worry about revenge. His mind was entirely focused on escaping quickly. Before Su Chen could fully rise, he abruptly retreated and leaped out the window.

He unleashed what was practically the fastest speed of his entire life. By the time he vaulted over the wall to escape, he glanced back, only to see that Su Chen had just walked out of the room. Seemingly not expecting him to be so fast, Su Chen had a trace of surprise in his eyes. This look made the man in black feel a momentary sense of smugness.

He thought, "Hmph. Although I’m not as strong as you, when it comes to speed, eight hundred galloping horses couldn’t catch me."

With that thought in mind, the man in black’s figure flickered, vanishing into the night in the blink of an eye. He completely failed to notice that Su Chen’s profound gaze had been locked onto him the entire time, without any intention of giving chase.

After running for an unknown amount of time, the man in black turned back repeatedly. Only when he was certain that Su Chen hadn’t pursued him did he finally relax.

"Sigh, I should go back and heal my injuries first!"

The residual power inside his body hadn’t dissipated yet, and the pain it caused was growing increasingly apparent. He planned to go back and recuperate for a while before making his next move.

Half an hour later, the man in black arrived at a somewhat dilapidated courtyard. He pushed the door open and walked inside. Returning to his room, he sat cross-legged and channeled his own inner power to eliminate the residual power Su Chen had left in him.

"Who’s there?"
