Chapter 111: Chapter 105: Night Raid, Qi Blood Pill, Offering a Sister in Marriage
"Thank you, friend." The group thanked Su Chen one by one.
Su Chen waved his hand dismissively. He didn’t mind; he had only lent a hand because it was convenient.
As the sky gradually brightened, after a brief rest, the group packed up and was ready to go.
Tan Run came up to Su Chen. "Young friend, are you heading to Dafeng City?"
"Yes."
"That’s wonderful. We’re also heading to Dafeng City. If you don’t mind, why not travel with us?" Tan Xu offered with a smile.
Su Chen hesitated for a moment before agreeing.
For the rest of the journey, Su Chen joined the caravan, traveling alongside Tan Xu and the others.
Finally having a peer in the group—and one stronger than himself—Tan Xu instantly turned into a chatterbox, frequently seeking Su Chen out for casual conversation.
Through him, Su Chen learned a great deal about Dafeng City. It comprised four main districts and thirty-six marketplaces. A single district was almost as large as White Stone City, and a single marketplace was as prosperous as Medicine Town. It was arguably one of the most flourishing cities in all of Qinzhou.
The Tan Family Trading Team was an upper-middle-class merchant group in one of those marketplaces. Every year, they would purchase various goods from other cities to sell in Dafeng City. By profiting from the price differences, they earned silver taels and steadily expanded their business.
Furthermore, Su Chen learned from Tan Run the name of the pill he had acquired the night before. It was exactly what his interface required: the Qi Blood Pill. According to Tan Run, this single Qi Blood Pill was more valuable than everything Black Tiger had on him combined.
In Dafeng City, aside from standard currency, the hard currency among Martial Artists was the Qi Blood Pill. These pills provided immense benefits and were highly sought after. A single Qi Blood Pill usually cost over a hundred silver taels, and even then, demand far exceeded supply.
Upon confirming it was a Qi Blood Pill, Su Chen swallowed it while no one was looking. The effects were immediate and profound—several times stronger than the Blood Boiling Powder. The progress bar on his interface advanced by a tenth, proving that the pill Tan Run mentioned was exactly what the interface needed.
One day.
"Brother Ding, Dafeng City is just up ahead. Are you sure you don’t want to come to the Tan family with me?" Tan Xu asked, his tone laced with regret.
Hearing this, Su Chen’s mouth twitched, and he flatly refused.
If Tan Xu hadn’t spent all day plotting to "repay the life-saving grace by offering my younger sister’s hand in marriage," Su Chen might have considered staying with the Tan family for a while. But now? Forget it.
"Since our young friend Ding Peng doesn’t want to go, Xu, don’t force him," Tan Run interjected at the right moment.
Tan Xu could only nod helplessly and sigh heavily. His expression made it seem like Su Chen’s refusal to visit the Tan family was a monumental tragedy.
Su Chen paid it no mind. Through their time together, he had come to understand Tan Xu’s character: a promising, inexperienced youth who was grateful and boisterous. Naturally, Tan Xu wouldn’t hold a grudge over this.
A short while later, Su Chen gazed at the towering, majestic city walls before him. A hint of wonder flickered in his eyes, but he quickly withdrew his gaze.
After entering the city, he looked at Tan Run and Tan Xu, cupping his fists in a salute. "Gentlemen, all good things must come to an end. If fate allows, we will meet again. Farewell!"
Tan Run and Tan Xu nodded. "Farewell!"
After parting ways with them, Su Chen began to wander the city.
"Sir, are you new to Dafeng City? I have a guide here covering the various districts and marketplaces of Dafeng City. Would you happen to need one?"
He hadn’t walked far when his habit of looking around seemed to catch the attention of the street children, who deduced he was a newcomer. Before long, a young boy carrying a bamboo basket on his back approached him with the pitch.
Su Chen looked down and noticed a variety of books in the bamboo basket. A quick glance revealed the titles on the covers: "Da Feng City Districts and Marketplaces", "Dafeng City Sects", "Dafeng City Gangs"...
"How many silver taels for one?" Su Chen asked, slightly surprised but quick to inquire.
"One tael!" The boy smiled as he quoted the price, then explained, "Don’t think it’s too expensive, sir. We went through a lot of trouble to compile these. You won’t find them sold anywhere else."
"I’ll take one," Su Chen said, nodding after a moment of thought.
The boy pulled out a relatively thin book. They exchanged the money and goods simultaneously. Just as they finished, the boy added,
"Sir, just this one isn’t enough. I can tell you’re definitely from a wealthy family, coming to Dafeng City to seek a master and learn martial arts, right?
"This book on sects might help you find a faction that suits your desires. Oh, and this guide on gangs will help you avoid danger. There’s also this one, introducing the entertainment districts of Dafeng City. Oh, you’ll definitely be interested in this one—it records three hundred and sixty bedroom arts..."
The boy pitched the books in his bamboo basket with a torrent of words, pulling out several in quick succession. Su Chen didn’t speak; instead, he casually flipped through the book in his hand. After looking at it for a moment, he closed it and pointed at the guides on sects and gangs.
"Give me these two. I don’t want the rest."
Though slightly disappointed, the boy happily handed the two books over to Su Chen. Once the transaction was settled, he realized Su Chen had no intention of buying anything else, so he adjusted his bamboo basket and moved on to find his next customer.
Finding a nearby tavern, Su Chen ordered a few dishes. As he waited, he examined the books he had just bought. All three were very thin, resembling pamphlets. The information inside wasn’t detailed, merely providing a rough overview of the general situation.
