My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 405: Leone’s New Trump Card
After giving Jason accessories that would boost his fighting prowess, Leone received a message from Daedalus that the captain of the mercenary group, Lost Paradise, wished to talk to him in private.
This meant that his consciousness had to return to Grimjaw Mountain. But before leaving, he made sure to inform Kael and Ulric, asking them to watch over his clone lest it stir up another trouble while he was away.
When Leone’s consciousness returned to his original body, he didn’t see Yuni or Aria inside his room.
The one guarding him was none other than Blitz, who was currently resting on his chest.
When the squirrel noticed its master was awake, it did a little happy dance on Leone’s chest, which made the young man chuckle.
"Thank you for guarding me, Blitz," Leone said as he patted the squirrel’s head. "But where are Yuni and Aria?"
*Squeak*
"I see."
The squirrel told him that Aria and Yuni were busy cooking his lunch.
They asked Blitz to guard Leone while they prepared his food.
A sigh left Leone’s lips. Slowly, he propped himself up from the bed. Conall wished to talk to him about something important, so he shouldn’t keep him waiting.
Blitz crawled toward his shoulder. Clearly, the squirrel planned to accompany Leone as his guard while everyone was away.
After quickly grooming himself, Leone left the cave and headed to the villas designated for the members of Lost Paradise.
"You’re finally here, Leone." Conall greeted the young chieftain with a smile. "It seems that you’ve been quite busy as of late. I haven’t seen you since yesterday."
"I was doing something very important yesterday," Leone replied. "Do you need me for something?"
"Yes." Conall nodded before taking out a red glowing crystal from his pocket. "This is something my Master gave me before we headed here to the Aslan Tribe. He told me that when this crystal glows red, it means he needs to talk to you as soon as possible."
Since the Radiant Empire and the Borderlands were quite far from each other, Lugh decided to use the crystal as a means to communicate with Conall and Leone.
"Understood," Leone replied. "Let’s go to the Forgotten Temple."
He had to admit that he was curious to know why his great grandfather wished to talk to him.
When Leone and Conall teleported to the Dragon’s Nest in the Helion Duchy, they didn’t meet Lugh right away.
Instead, it was the butler, Jeeves, who came to fetch them.
"The Master is in an important meeting with someone right now," Jeeves said. "He asked me to let you know that he will come as soon as the meeting is over."
Leone nodded in understanding and thanked Jeeves for the report.
The butler bowed, then took out two chairs and a small, round table from his storage ring.
He then began brewing tea on the spot, preparing to serve the two some refreshments while they waited.
Leone was quite amused. The butler even had cookies and pastries in his storage ring, which he served to them after the tea was prepared.
While waiting for Lugh to appear, Leone and Conall made some idle talk, which quickly turned into a strategy meeting.
Blitz listened quietly while munching on some cookies on the table. And perhaps finding the little creature quite amusing, Jeeves took out some macaroons and served them to Blitz on a silver platter.
*Squeak!*
"You’re welcome, Little Master."
Leone smiled faintly at the sight because his vassal and the butler seemed to have hit it off quite nicely.
By the time Lugh finally appeared, Leone and Conall were already on their third serving of tea.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Lugh smiled. "I had a very important guest earlier. He had to visit me incognito to ensure that no one would find out about his identity."
"I see," Leone replied calmly.
"Aren’t you going to ask who that person is?" Lugh asked. "Are you not even curious?"
"Not really," Leone answered.
He wasn’t lying. The young man wished to return to Eden as soon as possible because things there still needed his attention.
Not satisfied with his reply, Lugh decided to tell Leone who he had been talking to a while ago.
"I was talking to the Barbarian King of the West," Lugh said calmly, as if he was just talking about the weather.
Leone blinked once, then twice, while Conall arched an eyebrow in response.
The Barbarian King of the West had some blood ties with the Helion Family, and to a certain extent, the Frontera Family as well.
That being so, Lugh finally saw the reaction he was looking for. Feeling smug, he sat on the chair that Jeeves had prepared and even took the last macaroon on the plate that Blitz was about to grab.
*Squeak!*
The squirrel pointed at the human who stole its macaroon with righteous indignation.
Lugh looked at the squirrel and the macaroon in his hand before looking back at Blitz again.
Without even batting an eye, he put the macaroon into his mouth and bit on it.
Blitz stood rooted to the spot as if it were completely heartbroken.
Fortunately, Jeeves was there to save the day, adding a few more macaroons to the plate in front of Blitz.
The squirrel blinked once before reaching out to eat the nearest macaroon it could grab. A look of satisfaction then appeared on its face as it completely forgot Lugh’s earlier transgression.
"Great Grandpa, please don’t bully Blitz," Leone said.
"Sorry. This little thing is quite amusing," Lugh replied before trying to pat the squirrel’s head with his finger.
However, Blitz moved out of the old man’s reach. Clearly, it didn’t have a good impression of the person who stole its food earlier.
"Great Grandpa, can you tell me why you called for me?" Leone finally asked him the most important question.
"Ah, of course." Lugh finally shifted his attention toward Leone to talk about important matters. "You know, I’ve been thinking a lot as of late. After talking with the Barbarian King, I realized that you don’t have a trump card."
"A trump card?" Leone frowned.
The young chieftain was genuinely confused because he had many trump cards.
"Great Grandpa, I actually have many trump cards," Leone stated.
"Are those trump cards of yours stronger than the Monster King?" Lugh asked in a teasing tone.
At that, Leone had no rebuttal. The Monster King was strong.
It was so strong that they had to fight tooth and nail just to defeat it.
"Sure, you might have many trump cards as you say, and they are certainly important in wars," Lugh said calmly.
"However, there are beings out there that can completely change the course of a battle the moment they appear. What if I tell you that both the Kingdom of Britannia and the Aurelion Empire have a trump card that is as strong as, or even stronger than the Monster King?"
Leone’s expression turned grim after hearing his great grandpa’s words. Sure, he had already considered that the enemy might possess that kind of powerhouse among their ranks.
In the Borderlands, his great uncle, Gundar, was said to be stronger than the Monster King.
He just didn’t know if this was just blind belief and a complete exaggeration from the barbarians. It wasn’t that he underestimated his great uncle but that he hadn’t seen the old shaman fight yet.
Leone had seen Gundar’s status page before, and it wasn’t as impressive as the Bronze Dragon’s stat parameters that surpassed 10,000 stat points each.
Still, he wanted to believe that his great uncle was truly a powerful person.
"Take this, Leone." Lugh placed a sealed scroll on top of the table. "This is my gift to you. And from now on, it will also become your trump card."
Leone was quite curious to see what the scroll was, so he picked it up and asked Daedalus to appraise it.
—————-
[Ancient Summoning Scroll]
Grade: Mythic
Item Type: Consumable (Disappears after one use).
Description: This scroll will summon a random Rank 9 Elemental King. However, there is a 70% chance that the summoned Elemental will attack the summoner after it is summoned.
—————
Leone almost dropped the scroll in his hand after reading its contents.
"G-Great Grandpa, this isn’t a trump card," Leone said. "This is just a bomb waiting to explode."
"I know, right?" Lugh chuckled in response. "Isn’t it exciting? The thrill of not knowing whether that summon will be friend or foe is the reason why I haven’t used it yet."
The corner of Leone’s lips twitched after hearing his no-good great-grandpa’s reply.
The scroll in his hand wasn’t a trump card at all.
If anything, it was a ticking time bomb that didn’t differentiate friend from foe!
