Chapter 311: The Frame Waiting For Her
The empty frame had Elara’s blood on its right strap.
Rina tested the stain at Post Four.
Blood type matched. Current injury did not.
At Mercy, Elara’s right shoulder skin remained closed beneath Kikaru’s pad. The strap beside her was clean.
Iseul tested only the stain already outside a body.
It contained scar-support medication Elara had not received and concrete dust from a ministry floor nobody had opened. White-cell damage suggested the blood had crossed at least four clock resets.
The sample could describe a possible route. It could not authorize treatment for an injury Elara did not have.
Iseul sealed half for evidence and let Elara decide the rest.
"Destroy it," Elara said.
The medicine keeper burned that half in a separate lamp. Room Nine recorded destruction of attendee material and tried to add evidence obstruction. Rina attached Elara’s current ownership of the sample and kept the objection open.
The Night Ground frame had a cracked rear weld and mud inside its left release channel. Its breath diaphragm had fired. The red return loop was missing.
It looked used because the route offered an arrival after the mission.
Room Nine accepted the offer as current fact.
```
ELARA: PHYSICAL ATTENDANCE CONFIRMED.
SUPPORT FRAME: DESTINATION INSTRUMENT.
HEARING POSITION: AVAILABLE.
```
At Mercy, Elara remained three clock bands from departure.
"Current location?" Sefa asked.
"Mercy workshop. Inside frame seven."
"Current blood on right strap?"
"None."
"Did you attend Room Nine?"
"No."
Sefa wrote `PROPOSED ARRIVAL, NOT PERSON` across the Night Ground frame.
The private venue rejected the label.
```
SUPPORT CONFIGURATION UNIQUELY IDENTIFIES ATTENDEE.
```
"A bed can identify a patient," Sefa said. "It cannot attend court."
The frame’s empty straps tightened.
Night Ground’s medicine keeper tried to release them. Her hands passed through the buckles and appeared on Mercy’s clean frame, inches from Elara’s chest.
Kikaru caught neither hand. He moved Elara’s frame back and asked the medicine keeper to withdraw.
Her hands returned to Post Four with red pressure marks around both wrists.
The offered arrival had begun connecting support workers before Elara crossed.
Room Nine opened dependent fields under the claimed attendance.
Pela appeared as `RESPIRATORY CONTINUITY HOLDER`.
Kikaru appeared as `STRUCTURAL BODY CUSTODIAN`.
Elara’s right arm appeared as `SUPPORTED ATTENDEE ASSET`.
None had accepted those roles. The venue had derived ownership from a useful configuration and a blood stain.
Pela cut her name from the printed field. The letters moved onto the empty breath diaphragm. Kikaru’s field moved onto the middle spine pad. The system preferred a support object to no holder at all.
Rina tested each part separately.
The axle carried a receipt from Mercy’s seventh weighted return.
The cracked weld carried a later load no current test had produced.
The breath diaphragm carried Elara’s selected failure pattern.
The blood carried a possible injury.
No part carried a current answer from Elara’s body.
"Can we destroy it?" Kestrel asked.
Kikaru looked at the current frame around Elara.
"If they cut a shared part, the current one may lose it too."
"Then separate the destination claim before the hardware."
Room Nine had attached arrival to configuration: three spine pads, open chest, wide rear axle, left red loop, breath diaphragm.
Changing any support could make the current frame unsafe.
Elara asked for the list.
She selected the left red loop first.
"Replace red with bare cord. Same function."
Pela threaded a piece of uncolored surgical braid through the current release pin. Elara pulled it twice. The return pin fell both times.
At Post Four, the missing red loop appeared on the empty frame.
Room Nine kept its attendance claim.
Elara selected the rear axle paint. Kikaru scraped one weld down to bare metal without changing width.
The offered frame grew fresh paint over its crack.
"It is correcting toward function," Rina said. "Appearance does not break identity."
Elara touched the breath valve with her left thumb.
"Remove one spine pad."
Caleb spoke from Cairo.
"Your occupied test needed all three."
"Yes."
"Then do not spend the current support to beat a label."
Elara looked toward his feed.
"That is useful."
She kept the third pad.
Sefa returned to the venue’s own language.
"Does physical attendance require a current person?"
```
YES.
```
"Does the support configuration answer current questions?"
```
CONFIGURATION CARRIES ATTENDEE INTENT.
```
"Intent is not a current answer. Ask the frame whether it wants release."
Room Nine printed the question.
The empty frame did not answer.
Its straps tightened. Its diaphragm clicked. Blood spread another centimeter.
No person spoke.
The venue changed `PHYSICAL ATTENDANCE CONFIRMED` to `ATTENDANCE RECEIPT PRESENT`.
That smaller claim still named the frame as destination instrument.
Kestrel asked Post Four to receive hardware without receiving arrival.
The medicine keeper accepted one axle, three pads, one diaphragm, and straps as separate objects. She excluded configuration and attendee.
Rina cut the offered frame at every joint.
Each piece fell onto a different cloth.
The bloodied strap stopped bleeding when separated from the right pad. The cracked axle remained cracked. The diaphragm released one final empty breath.
Pela’s and Kikaru’s dependent fields went blank.
The right-arm asset field remained attached to the severed support sling. Elara denied it from Mercy. Sefa marked the sling as disputed object evidence and refused disposal until her current body arrived.
The medicine keeper stored each frame piece in a different house. No family accepted maintenance duty beyond one clock band.
Room Nine lost its destination instrument.
Elara’s current frame stayed whole at Mercy.
"Current entry answer?" Tali asked.
Elara waited through an unsupported breath. Eleven seconds.
"Yes."
Pela selected the next valve pressure. Kikaru held the lower spine pad. Caleb placed both hands on Mercy floor after two workshop keepers asked.
The rear wheels crossed the departure mark.
Caleb released.
Elara’s frame passed through Post Four in three parts of time.
The front wheels arrived first.
Night Ground soil pushed against them while the rear axle remained on Mercy tile. The frame stretched without growing longer. Kikaru kept the lower pad in Mercy and the middle pad in Post Four until Elara named both contacts current.
Her voice reached Night Ground second.
"Front wheels on soil. Chest in crossing. Airway current."
Pela’s bag pressure reached her from Mercy before Pela’s hands crossed. Elara accepted one breath and refused the second until the bag and hands occupied the same side.
Her current body arrived with the rear axle after both supports remained stable.
The right shoulder crossed last. For two seconds the arm remained on Mercy’s support pad while Elara could see her hand in Night Ground. She named the arm current and asked Kikaru for no pull. It followed only when the shoulder relation reached Post Four.
Pela and Kikaru crossed as current caregivers under separate Post Four receipts. Neither became part of Elara’s attendance.
Room Nine opened a new hearing position.
```
ELARA: CURRENT ATTENDANCE PENDING HER ANSWER.
```
"No attendance yet," Elara said. "I entered Night Ground."
The venue kept pending.
Miri Dast stood beside the frame with a boiled-water bucket.
She did not touch Elara or call the arrival a victory.
"Do you need water?"
"For my mouth. Not the frame."
Miri offered a cup. Elara drank one swallow through a bent metal straw and returned it before the Dast ledger could assign her a house.
The petroleum lamps smelled sharper than the recordings carried. Hammers struck out of sequence around the eight posts. Beyond them, Night Ground houses waited under a sky that had never completed morning.
Her first breath under the repeating sky lasted nine seconds.
The second needed Pela’s bag.
Kikaru adjusted the middle pad after Elara asked two fingers lower. Her right arm rested across a separate support sling.
No leash returned. No body restored itself because she had crossed.
Post Eight reached 04:17.
The eastern sky folded back.
Shadows crossed the frame in eight bands.
On the fourth band, Elara’s right shoulder lost contact with Kikaru’s pad.
The pad remained under her.
Her shoulder no longer occupied the support it touched.
