This change in his senses might require him to project his soul again and again before he could adjust to it.

When he returned to the place where the incident had occurred, he discovered that many small creatures had already appeared there.

They were not mammals. Instead, they were small insects, moths, and a few birds.

They were densely packed together, making anyone who disliked such things feel a chill of disgust.

Joo Joowon, however, was not afraid. In his spirit form, there were generally very few objects that could touch him, so he moved closer to take a look.

Within his field of vision, the flying insects flapped their wings, but their flight paths were somewhat stiff. They looked like puppets controlled by strings.

Joo Joowon’s expression became slightly strange.

Zombie insects?

Could insects also turn into zombies?

The ants he had encountered earlier had eventually been confirmed to be living creatures rather than zombies. Therefore, up until now, Joo Joowon had not discovered any creatures that were too inconspicuous to be noticed being transformed into zombies. He had still been holding on to the hopeful assumption that this had not happened.

At this moment, however, he could not help feeling somewhat complicated.

However, he could not make such a definite judgment. After all, the insects had not displayed any characteristics of zombies either.

But Joo Joowon still remembered that there were parasitic organisms in nature that could control other insects, such as zombie caterpillars and similar creatures. Perhaps some supernatural creature was currently controlling these little things and using them to scout the area.

There were quite a few cautious animals in nature.

Unfortunately, he could not smell anything in his soul form. Otherwise, he would have been able to determine whether they were zombies immediately. There would have been no possibility of him being unable to tell.

Joo Joowon observed insects of different species, using them to confirm whether his judgment was correct. It was not until he saw several insects whose bodies were missing half of their forms, with their internal organs already rotting, yet which were still flying, that he was forced to face reality.

Any living creature in this world could become a zombie, even an insignificant insect.

If creatures such as rats and cockroaches could still attract people’s attention, then tiny things such as small flying insects would truly be ignored without people realizing it. Who had not been bitten by a few mosquitoes these days? And who would have thought to pay attention to the fact that they could also carry the zombie virus?

But if bloodsucking mosquitoes became zombies...

Joo Joowon suddenly understood why the expansion had been called [Zombie Horde]. The evil gods and similar things that had appeared so far were clearly more terrifying and difficult to deal with. As for zombies, given humanity’s ability to organize itself, there would always be a day when they could be eliminated after humans regrouped and recovered.

However, he was no longer so certain now.

Those were mosquitoes!

Aside from those large black and white striped mosquitoes, there were also tiny wheat mosquitoes that looked like little black dots. No matter how hard humanity tried, how could they possibly eliminate every single zombie mosquito?

It would be far too easy for these mosquitoes to fly into human settlements and infect people, creating new zombies.

Although Joo Joowon felt that, considering the size of mosquitoes, even if they became zombies, the speed at which their bites caused infection should not be too extreme, and perhaps ordinary people might even be able to resist it, that was not how the situation should be calculated.

At the very least, Joo Joowon could not imagine how a human base could keep mosquitoes outside and prevent them from entering to suck people’s blood.

If this continued, zombies would never be completely eliminated. Moreover, judging from the situation with the spider zombie, zombies were also capable of producing "offspring." Even if they were killed, new ones would continue appearing in batches.

Mosquitoes were like cockroaches. They had existed for longer than human history, and they had not gone extinct after all these years. Now, it seemed even less likely that they could ever be wiped out.

Joo Joowon truly had never imagined that, even after the apocalypse, he would still be unable to escape the clutches of mosquitoes. In the past, humans had merely felt annoyed or disgusted by mosquitoes, but now their attitude would have to change into fear and vigilance.

This was different from ordinary zombies. Even if ordinary zombies looked no different from when they were alive from a distance, most people could recognize that the other party was a zombie as soon as it let out a roar. Insects, however, were different.

Unless they displayed some obvious abnormality, most people would have a hard time noticing that anything was wrong with them.

He also had no idea whether mosquito repellents would still be able to make them leave in the future...

Joo Joowon thought that, after returning, he absolutely had to remind Byeol and the others that they must never casually catch and play with these little creatures again. He always felt that, even if creatures of this kind increased in level, their bodies probably would not grow very large. It would be troublesome if they were bitten or otherwise infected.

Thinking about it again, he felt that the situation might not be quite so bad, at least not for supernatural beings.

With a supernatural being’s perception, it was easy to notice abnormalities. After all, zombies had no signs of life. Moreover, even the weakest zombie was stronger than the original creature of its species, so it should not be difficult to recognize them.

As for why he was currently unable to recognize them, it was purely because he did not have a body. In addition, this was his first time projecting his soul, so he was not yet familiar with how a spirit body sensed its surroundings.
