My God-Level System Can Rebuild Civilization in the Apocalypse!
Chapter 267: Hidden Waterfall
The so-called great misfortune meant seeking one's own death and certain death. Misfortune meant being trapped in a dangerous situation where death and injury were difficult to predict. Minor misfortune meant that there would be danger and the possibility of failure, but there was no sign that it would lead to death and destruction.
The mountain standing in front of the protected area was a natural barrier. After some animals from the protected area escaped, they had to pass through the mountain first. In fact, many animals did not have such an exaggerated amount of physical strength under normal circumstances. Usually, once they had climbed the mountain, they would not have the strength to continue moving forward.
Animals lived in the wild, and in order to guard against enemies, they would never use up all of their physical strength simply by traveling.
Because Sabi City had too many mountains, it was impossible to immediately prevent wild animals from approaching humans the moment they came out of the mountains. The manpower and resources required for that would cost an astronomical amount of money. Therefore, even now, there were still cases of wild animals attacking people or wild animals being frightened by humans.
When facing this kind of situation, the only thing people could rely on was "natural barriers."
Some mountains near protected areas had been artificially carved to make them even steeper, making them difficult for ordinary animals to pass through. On the other hand, some plants that nearby creatures were unfamiliar with, disliked, or even repulsed by were scattered across the mountains. At the same time, on the side closer to humans and more heavily populated areas, things such as "moats," "sinkholes," and "ditches" would be dug to prevent animals from approaching.
All living creatures had an instinct to seek good fortune and avoid harm, so these prevention and control measures could still have some effect to a greater or lesser extent.
Therefore, although Joo Joowon did not know the exact situation of the mountain on his side, he figured that similar measures should have been taken here as well.
However, even so, that did not mean there was no longer any risk on the mountain. After all, this place was so close to the protected area that it could not be compared with other places. No matter how much prevention and control was carried out, it was impossible to completely prevent wild animals from climbing the mountain.
Yet under such circumstances, there could still be a result of good fortune hidden within misfortune, which was truly unexpected.
Good fortune hidden within misfortune meant that gains would come with a small amount of risk and potential trouble afterward, but overall, the advantages would still outweigh the disadvantages.
Although Joo Joowon was somewhat puzzled about what exactly had caused the "good fortune," he had no intention of missing this opportunity. After all, this was the best choice available to him under the current circumstances.
No matter what, there was no reason to leave a good place alone and deliberately go to a dangerous place. He could just treat it as clearing the area in advance and eliminating potential trouble for himself.
There was a saying that went, "You can see the mountain, but the horse will die before reaching it." Earlier, when Joo Joowon had observed the surroundings from the wheel loader, he had not felt that this mountain was very far away. But now that he had actually started walking toward it, it truly took quite some time before he finally reached the foot of the mountain.
It had to be known that his walking speed could hardly be described as slow.
After reaching the foot of the mountain, Joo Joowon noticed that there was an unusually large amount of moisture in the air. He could not help but follow the direction of his Mental Power's perception and walk over to take a look. Only then did he discover that there was actually a waterfall here.
The waterfall was not particularly small, and the water rushing down from it flowed rather turbulently. Following the waterfall as it poured downward, the local people should have previously made use of this water source to dig irrigation channels in the relatively flat areas of the terrain and use the water to irrigate their farmland.
However, Joo Joowon had not noticed this waterfall when he had looked into the distance earlier. It was not because the waterfall had been blocked by vegetation, but because the waterfall was originally not located in this direction.
Earlier, he had been wondering why there were so many farmlands here.
Even if the villagers had been forced to move away but could not bear to abandon the land around their homes, the government should have dealt with these matters long ago.
After all, the reason they had been made to move away in the first place was to protect their lives. There was no reason to let them continue moving around in the surrounding area. What difference would that make compared to not moving away at all?
Moreover, given the terrain here, it was not particularly convenient to irrigate the fields.
Now, however, he finally understood.
These irrigation channels were not something that could have been dug in just a day or two. They showed clear signs of age and seemed much more like the result of the efforts of several generations.
Judging from the sound of the flowing water that Joo Joowon could hear with his current exceptional perception, the sound of the waterfall crashing down was not particularly obvious. Clearly, the water had probably originally flowed along the side of the mountain or perhaps from the rear mountain. In any case, it was impossible for it to have originally been flowing on this side.
Sabi City had never been a place that lacked water. However, because of the terrain, there had not been many places suitable for people to live here in ancient times, so there were still times when great battles broke out over the struggle for water.
