Chapter 522: Chapter 177: "Miss Sazanoko, Stand Down—It’s All Right Now!
She tightly covered the dwarf’s mouth with her left hand, not allowing him to make any sound.
After slamming more than ten punches into the dwarf’s neck, Sazanoko finally felt the dwarf’s body "soften".
The dwarf’s life force kept leaking out from the dozen blood holes on his neck, his eyeballs rolled upward... and he collapsed to the ground like noodles, completely lifeless.
"Huff... huff... huff... huff... huff..."
For a moment, Sazanoko’s heavy breathing dominated the entire cellar room.
Nakamura Tsuki, standing aside, now had a "seeing a ghost" expression, with wide eyes staring blankly at Sazanoko, who was now splattered with quite a bit of blood...
——I killed someone...
This was Sazanoko’s first time killing someone.
Looking at the dwarf’s unclosed eyes, a strong sense of nausea surged from Sazanoko’s throat.
——Now’s not the time to get sick here...!
After sternly reprimanding herself with that in her heart, Sazanoko swallowed hard multiple times, forcefully suppressing the urge to vomit.
Once she composed herself a bit, Sazanoko extended her right arm to pull out the Wakizashi from the dwarf lying by her feet, cutting the ropes binding both her and Nakamura Tsuki.
"Miss Sazanoko..."
Sazanoko had just torn off the cloth from Nakamura Tsuki’s face when Nakamura Tsuki stared blankly at her, softly murmuring her name.
Her once lifeless eyes regained a glimmer of light.
"Let’s talk after we escape," Sazanoko said, crouching down to search the dwarf’s corpse for other weapons or anything useful.
The Wakizashi, now gripped in Sazanoko’s right hand, appeared to be the only weapon the dwarf had... After searching from head to toe, there was nothing but air.
——Is this the only usable weapon...
Sazanoko lowered her gaze, looking at the not-so-sharp Wakizashi in her hand.
They only had this Wakizashi as a weapon... but Sazanoko showed no sign of discouragement or disappointment about that.
"Ayue."
Sazanoko took a deep breath and stared intently at the stairs leading outside the cellar room.
"Stay close to me, I’ll take you home."
Sazanoko vigorously wiped the Wakizashi’s blade against her clothes, cleaning off the dirt.
The cleaned blade reflected a dazzling cold light.
Sazanoko’s eyes, now filled with determination, shone with the same brilliance.
...
...
Hunched over, Sazanoko and Nakamura Tsuki slipped out of the underground cellar where they had been held for several days.
The long-absent fresh air brushed against their faces... prompting Sazanoko to take several deep breaths.
She pressed her back against the wall, peeking out to survey the corridor outside.
The empty hallway was desolate, filled only with thick darkness.
Once confirming it was safe outside, Sazanoko signaled to Nakamura Tsuki behind her,
Sazanoko had a clear goal—head for an exit door or window leading outside.
This task wasn’t extremely difficult, yet not exactly simple either.
The reason it was "not extremely difficult" was that being connected to the cellar naturally put them on the first floor of the house.
Given their current position inside the first floor of the house, finding a doorway or window leading outside wasn’t particularly challenging.
But why was it "not exactly simple"... it’s quite simple actually.
The house was guarded by many sentries.
Sazanoko suddenly heard voices coming from one of the rooms ahead.
She quickly turned to signal Nakamura Tsuki behind her to remain silent.
Nakamura Tsuki nodded vigorously while using her little hands to cover her mouth and nose, calming her breathing as much as possible.
The corridor adjacent to the room where voices emanated was a route Sazanoko and Nakamura Tsuki must pass...
There was no way around... they could only grit their teeth and walk through!
Sazanoko silently exhaled, gathered her thoughts, and stealthily moved forward.
As they approached the room, the voices became increasingly clear.
"Damn it... so annoying, why were we assigned to guard those two women?"
"Sigh, I’m frustrated too, everyone else gets to have a blast at the settlement tonight, while we just stare at each other here."
"I joined the Anti-foreigner Group to fight those barbarians... not to guard two nasty women."
"Alright, enough complaining. By the way, isn’t it about time to change shifts? Who’s up next to stand guard at the cellar door?"
"Me. Damn, the more I think about it, the angrier I get... I really want to witness those hateful barbarians being burned to ashes at the settlement tonight..."
...
Tonight, the settlement, the Anti-foreigner Group, burning to ashes... these words combined, causing Sazanoko’s eyes to widen, her steps unintentionally slowing down.
At this moment, Nakamura Tsuki behind Sazanoko was wearing a similar expression, still covering her mouth and nose, looking in shock at the room full of chatting people nearby.
One terrifying thought after another emerged uncontrollably in Sazanoko’s mind, as if having a life of their own.
At this moment, a sudden unexpected change demanded Sazanoko’s attention from these chaotic thoughts - footsteps suddenly echoed from the corner ahead!
