Chapter 299: Chapter 201: The Candidate (3)
Li Guoqiang was too moved for words. It took him a long moment to compose himself. "How could I possibly take such advantage of you!"
"Don’t say that. You gave me a lot of support with my business back in the day!"
"You’re too kind!" Li Guoqiang felt that with Chen Xiao’s immense financial power, business was just a game to him. His own contribution hardly counted as "support," and it wasn’t like Chen Xiao needed it anyway.
"We should get President Cha and some of the old friends together for a get-together soon. After a while, I probably won’t be coming to Yunfeng Building as much!"
Li Guoqiang’s heart tightened. He and Chen Xiao worked in the same building, and bumping into each other frequently helped them build a closer relationship. Why would President Chen suddenly say he’d be coming to Yunfeng Building less?
"President Chen, are you changing offices?"
Chen Xiao said, "Yes. I bought the Kamen Lakefront CBD Center. It’s going to be the new headquarters for Junxiao Investment Group."
*Hiss!* He sucked in a sharp breath.
’Good lord,’ he thought. ’Every time I think I’m finally estimating your power on the high side, you prove again and again that I’ve been chronically underestimating you!’
’Do you only develop in quantum leaps?’
’The Kamen Lakefront CBD Center... that Jiangzhou landmark... and you just bought it to use as your corporate headquarters? How can you be so ridiculously rich and powerful?’
’Thinking about this, and then about the 20 million Chen Xiao had lent him, he realized it was probably no different to Chen Xiao than taking a couple of bucks out of his own pocket.’
"Anyway, let’s not get into it over the phone. Li, if you have time this afternoon, why don’t you come take a look with me!"
Even if Li Guoqiang didn’t have time, he would make time. What could possibly be more important than accompanying President Chen? He agreed to meet Chen Xiao at the Kamen Lakefront CBD Center.
He felt a little dejected, watching everyone around Chen Xiao achieve meteoric success.
Xu Wu went from being a sales director to a president in control of tens of billions in capital.
Cha Lan, whose company used to have an annual output of less than 200 million—someone Li Guoqiang himself used to brush off when he came to discuss business—had now, by following Dr. Feng’s Robot, or more accurately, by following Chen Xiao, reached an annual output in the billions.
Furthermore, he had acquired land in the High-Tech District, right next to Dr. Feng’s Industrial Park, and was building his own industrial complex. It was as if he was perfectly content to be a loyal follower of Dr. Feng’s Robot.
Ding Yong had been on the brink of bankruptcy, but after Li Guoqiang introduced him to Xu Wu, his fortunes had completely turned around, and his business was now thriving.
Even Ding Yong’s subordinate, Gao Yue, was now an influential figure in various circles. Only he, Li Guoqiang, had seen no real change, aside from making some headway by investing in the Hongmeng Intelligent Selection Car business.
It was Monday, and Chen Xiao chose this time to visit the Kamen Lakefront CBD Center because everyone else was busy, and he didn’t want to disturb them.
Xu Wu, for instance, was busy overseeing the general direction of all the subsidiary companies and organizing their key projects.
She had group meetings to attend and reports from the subsidiary chairmen to hear. On Mondays, she was so busy she barely had time to drink a sip of water.
Feng Feifei was no different. When Chen Xiao went to see her earlier, he could tell she already looked weary. The fact that he was able to take up so much of her time probably meant her assistant had been pushing back her other appointments one after another.
People like Cha Lan were now managing large corporations themselves and were swamped with work on Mondays.
Perhaps only Li Guoqiang, with his smaller-scale business, would be free. Besides, as an integrator, he had very little business toward the end of the year, so he was less busy.
Ma Jing entered again. Chen Xiao said, "I have to go out in a little while. You can just work in here. It’s quiet."
According to company policy, this was Chen Xiao’s office. As his assistant, Ma Jing was allowed in here when he was present, but she normally wasn’t supposed to work here when he was away.
But Chen Xiao never mistreated the people around him, so he granted her this special privilege. And surely no department in the company would dare to disregard his word.
Ma Jing stretched lazily. Chen Xiao added, "If you’re sleepy, go take a nap. No one else will know, anyway."
Her eyes went wide. "Are you trying to trick me into your bed?"
"Do I even need to trick you? I could just beckon with my finger and you’d come running!"
"Hmph, I’m not that kind of person!"
Chen Xiao got up, walked into his private lounge, and called out, "Ma Jing, come here!"
Ma Jing hurried over and saw Chen Xiao beckoning to her with his finger, just as he’d said he would.
"Brother Chen Xiao, you’re the worst!"
Chen Xiao walked over to the two-meter-wide bed and pressed down on the mattress with his hand. ’Not bad, pretty comfortable!’
He didn’t stop to think: how could a bed specially furnished for him *not* be comfortable?
He walked past Ma Jing, gave her a light flick on the forehead, and said, "I’m off. Hold down the fort!"
Ma Jing rubbed her forehead and muttered, "’Hold down the fort, hold down the fort...’ You’re only here for an hour a day. Who spends so little time at their ’fort’!"
Chen Xiao heard her quiet muttering and smiled faintly. He picked up his bag and headed out, leaving Ma Jing behind like a pouting newlywed.
As he crossed the main hall, he bumped into Qiao Xin. She greeted him cheerfully, "Brother Chen Xiao, off to talk business?"
He gave her a wave and a nod, then left.
"Xinxin, looks like your Brother Chen Xiao is a little cold toward you. It seems your Charm isn’t enough!"
"What do you know? Brother Chen Xiao is just shy and easily flustered!"
"What? You’re saying Chen Xiao is small?"
"Brother Chen Xiao is definitely not small..."
"You say that like you’ve seen it before."
When women started telling crude jokes, they were even more terrifying than men.
In the general manager’s office at the Junxiao Square Second Store, Lin Ya had just hung up the phone.
The call was from Xu Jun. Its message was brief and decisive, but it left Lin Ya utterly baffled.
"Do not renew the contracts for any of the Four Seasons Clothing brands once they expire!"
