My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 381: Strangely Cute

  • Next Chapter

Zeke Walton knew Amina hadn’t quite figured out her feelings yet. He himself seemed to have only just come to his senses recently and didn’t know much more than she did. So, being seen by someone was a little awkward.

Amina went into the kitchen with the housekeeper, so he went to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth, planning to go to work with Amina later.

Halfway through brushing his teeth, Amina suddenly appeared at the bathroom door.

She leaned against the doorframe, blinking her big eyes and looking at him with an adorable expression.

She was so adorable, so innocent, that Zeke wanted to kiss her again.

"What’s wrong? Did you miss me this much after I was gone for one night?"

Zeke Walton felt a sweet warmth inside as Amina blushed.

"I want to talk to you."

"Sure," Zeke Walton said, his voice muffled by the toothpaste in his mouth.

"Go ahead, I’m listening."

"What were you doing last night?"

’A blind date.’

The words reached his lips, but Zeke Walton swallowed them back down.

It was true he hadn’t seriously pursued Amina, nor had he officially confessed his feelings or gotten down on one knee to ask her to be his girlfriend. But they had already come this far, and he had long since considered her his girlfriend by default. How could he tell her something like that?

Besides, it couldn’t even be considered a blind date.

They had tricked him into going; it was all their wishful thinking. Even if he never got married, he would never be interested in a woman like Yvonne Thorne.

"I went back to see my mom. I hadn’t been back in a while, and she missed me. I really didn’t notice my phone was off. I wasn’t intentionally avoiding you."

Of course Amina believed he wasn’t intentionally avoiding her; she had never imagined Zeke Walton would ever hide from her.

However, he went home to see his mother, which meant his mother must have told him about the blind date with Yvonne Thorne. Amina couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease.

"Oh. So what did you two talk about? I don’t think you’ve ever mentioned your mom to me."

Zeke Walton felt that Amina was acting strange today, but he couldn’t put his finger on what was odd.

’Is she being strangely cute?’

He reached out and pinched her cheek.

"What’s there to talk about? She’s just a middle-aged woman."

’His mother is so young, so beautiful, and so elegant, but in his eyes, she’s just a middle-aged woman?’

Amina shook her head. "I don’t believe that. Please, just tell me properly, okay? What does she look like? What’s her personality? What does your family do?"

It wasn’t that Zeke Walton didn’t want to tell her these things; he just didn’t think it was necessary.

Even if he told her the company’s name and what it did, she wouldn’t have any concept of it.

Besides, she had always been the type to tune out the rest of the world, seemingly uninterested in anything besides her job and her grandmother’s health.

If Zeke Walton were to force his family’s background and his parents’ capabilities on her, it would just seem like he was showing off.

"Why the sudden interest in all this? Did something happen to you while I was gone last night?"

Amina didn’t dare tell him about meeting Mrs. Walton yesterday. It was too humiliating. If she told Zeke Walton about all the embarrassing things she did, she would want to die of shame all over again.

"It’s nothing. It’s just that when I couldn’t reach you by phone, I suddenly realized that besides your name and your phone number, I know nothing about you."

Zeke Walton understood. No wonder she was suddenly asking about all this.

He didn’t want to burden Amina.

Their relationship was the simplest, purest thing in the world. You like me, I like you. They could see each other the moment they opened their eyes every day. There were no ulterior motives, no complicated games.

Zeke Walton rinsed the toothpaste from his mouth and looked at Amina seriously as he said,

"My mom is just an ordinary person, in her forties. As for her personality, it’s a bit unpredictable; I can’t really say. My family is pretty average for Veridia. We’re not short on money, but we’re not what you’d call rich, either. As for my dad, he doesn’t really get involved with my life, and his temperament is a little worse than my mom’s. But no matter what they’re like, I’m an adult now. I can control my own thoughts and make my own decisions, so you don’t need to worry about them."

Amina was not at all satisfied with Zeke Walton’s explanation. She was extremely unsatisfied.

The joy she’d felt just moments ago when she came in was gradually washed away by his few perfunctory words.

Everything she experienced with Mrs. Walton yesterday told her that his family was very well-off, that his parents cared about him deeply and were incredibly proud of him, and that they had a very clear plan for his future. And yet, Zeke Walton refused to tell her the truth.

When she first met him, she’d thought he was a destitute thief.

Later, she watched him start his own business and succeed with ease.

She had thought he was just lucky, but little did she know, he had never shown her his true capabilities.

’Was he deliberately hiding it, afraid she was after his money? Or was it that they met under such strange circumstances that Zeke Walton never considered a future with her, so there was no need to tell her?’

Amina was heartbroken. It was like you’ve never had a friend before, and then you finally make a very, very good one. You bare your entire soul to them, only to discover that you aren’t their best friend after all.

He has lots and lots of good friends, and you could be thrown away at any moment.

She had never felt this kind of discomfort before. Realizing this, Amina was suddenly startled by her own thoughts.

’Was she blaming Zeke Walton? Did she want to break up with him?’

No. She wasn’t sure about the other things, but she was absolutely certain about one: she didn’t want to break up with him.

But she no longer knew how to talk to Zeke Walton.

’Force him to admit his family’s wealth, and then what?’

’Would it look like she was after his money or something?’

Amina’s mind was a mess, more chaotic than it had ever been.

Zeke Walton ate breakfast with her and chatted with her just like always, but she didn’t hear a single word.

She finished breakfast in a daze and set off on her electric scooter in a daze.

Zeke Walton rode around with her on the street for half an hour before they parted ways.

"Alright, it’s about time. I have to get to my company. Here’s your scooter back. Go on, get to work. And like I always say, don’t ride too fast. Safety is the most important thing. If anything happens, call me immediately."

Amina nodded mechanically, watched him leave, and then got on the road, still in a daze.

She felt groggy and muddle-headed. Her vision seemed to be doubling, and her ears were ringing. A sharp, inexplicable sound kept ringing in her ears.

She shook her head hard, trying to force herself to wake up, to be more alert, but she couldn’t stop her mind from wandering, and the electric scooter started to wobble with her.

Amina snapped out of it and hurriedly tried to stabilize the scooter, but she accidentally hit the throttle.

The scooter shot forward a few meters, swerving uncontrollably, before it crashed, throwing her onto the pavement with a loud CLANG.

The front of the scooter fell backward and to the side, scraping right against a black car that was passing by.

The black car had been driving normally when it was suddenly scraped by the scooter. The terrified driver slammed on the brakes, and the cars following behind also braked hard.

In the blink of an eye, it had caused a chain-reaction accident. Four cars had solidly rear-ended one another.

Amina lay on the ground, dizzy and disoriented as she watched it all unfold, still too shocked to process what had happened. The driver of the black car, his face contorted with rage, rushed up to her.

"Are you insane? Do you even know how to ride a scooter? What are you doing, rushing to get reincarnated this early in the morning? You almost gave me a heart attack! I hate you delivery people the most! You’re either running red lights or weaving all over the road with zero traffic sense! Well, this is just great. Get ready to pay up! You got insurance? You caused a pile-up this big—you could deliver food for the rest of your life and you still wouldn’t be able to afford this!"
