Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Watch Out

The top-floor president’s office of the Kendrick Group.

Sebastian Kensington was buried in piles of documents behind his desk when the sound of the door opening suddenly broke the silence. He slowly looked up, and when he saw who had entered, the cold, rigid aura around him softened slightly.

"Grandmother? Why did you suddenly come to the office?"

Miss Kensington walked in with a steady gait. Her usually kind face was now incredibly grave, her brow furrowed with a lingering sadness. She spoke in a heavy tone.

"I just came from the Sterling residence."

Sebastian Kensington’s fingers paused. "You went to visit Miss Sterling and Mr. Sterling? How are they doing?"

"Not well." Miss Kensington’s brow furrowed tightly. "Miss Sterling is barely breathing, her life hanging by a thread. It looks like she won’t last much longer."

"That Miss Grayson clearly said she was confident she could cure them. But lately, not only have they shown no signs of improvement, their health has been declining day by day..."

A flicker of emotion crossed Sebastian Kensington’s eyes as he explained in a low voice, "The poison has accumulated for many years and is already deep-seated. Their bodies were already extremely weak, so it’s normal for their health to decline. No matter how skilled Miss Grayson is, she can only do her best. No one can guarantee a one-hundred-percent cure."

Miss Kensington sighed heavily, her expression grave. "When I went to the Sterling residence today, I felt that something was off everywhere. And I clearly saw finger marks on Mr. Sterling’s face."

"I suspect that child, Sean Sterling, has been outrageously disrespectful, daring to lay a hand on the elders who raised him. It’s clear he wants to seize control of the Sterling family’s power and fortune!"

Sebastian Kensington raised an eyebrow. ’He didn’t expect the old woman to see things so clearly.’

"That can’t be right. After all, that’s his grandmother and adoptive father who painstakingly raised him for so many years. No matter how cold-hearted he is, he shouldn’t do something so unfilial and rebellious."

"You don’t understand the dark secrets of these wealthy families!" Miss Kensington let out a long, sorrowful sigh. "For power and property, even biological fathers and sons, or blood brothers, will turn against each other and fight to the death. Let alone Sean Sterling! He has no blood relation to the Sterling family at all; he’s just an adopted son. Once greed takes root in a person’s heart, what kind of conscienceless, inhuman act are they not capable of?"

"On top of that, Julian Sterling now has the mind of a child—he’s a simpleton. There’s no one in the entire Sterling family who can keep Sean in check. Sooner or later, he’ll have them all in the palm of his hand!"

Sebastian Kensington stood up, personally poured a cup of warm, clear tea, and handed it to her, his tone calm and soothing.

"You don’t need to worry so much about the Sterling family’s affairs; it will only add to your troubles. Since you trust Miss Grayson’s medical skills, you should have a little more faith in her."

"What do you mean by that?" Miss Kensington looked up sharply, eyeing him with suspicion. Just then, she caught a deep, unreadable smile playing on his lips, and her heart suddenly tightened.

’Could it be that this boy is hiding something from me?’

Meanwhile, at the Grayson family villa.

Milton Grayson had been acting exceptionally strange these past few days. He was silent and sullen all day, his expression gloomy. Even when Joyce Rivers spoke to him, he was always distracted and frequently lost in thought. He had even been sleeping in the study for nights on end, not returning to the master bedroom.

This cold and distant attitude thoroughly provoked Joyce Rivers. Seeing the impatient look on Milton Grayson’s face, the resentment that had been building for days finally erupted. Her eyes red, she demanded:

"Milton Grayson, what is the meaning of this? Are you tired of being with me? Are you intentionally giving me the cold shoulder?"

"Stop making a scene. I’m tied up with important matters right now and don’t have time for your nonsense. Don’t go looking for trouble," Milton Grayson said, his brow furrowed and his tone cold, unwilling to explain further.

"Am I the one making a scene, or have you simply grown tired of me and have something else on your mind?" Joyce Rivers’ voice choked with sobs, her heart filled with grievance and indignation.

Milton Grayson couldn’t be bothered to argue with her anymore. He grabbed his coat from the back of the chair, stood up, and strode quickly out the door.

With her eyes red, Joyce Rivers stared intently at his resolute, departing back. Her mind was filled with suspicion, and she vaguely sensed he was hiding an ulterior secret. She immediately grabbed her car keys, hurried after him, and started her car to discreetly follow him.

The drive led them straight to a quaint, antique-style theater in the suburbs of Northolme.

"President Grayson, the person you had me tail just entered the theater." Seeing Milton Grayson get out of the car, a subordinate hurried forward and reported in a low voice.

Milton Grayson asked in a low voice, "Which private box?"

"The Empyrean Chamber."

This was the theater’s most private box with the best view.

Milton Grayson went to the box next to The Empyrean Chamber. The two boxes were separated only by a hollow, carved wooden screen, which allowed for a clear, unobstructed view of every movement in the adjacent box.

In the adjacent box, two elegantly dressed women with gentle demeanors sat side by side, arm in arm, chatting happily. Their soft, cheerful laughter drifted over intermittently.

"Chelsea, I never thought you’d end up marrying someone in Northolme. We lost touch for so many years; I thought I’d never see you again," Renee Rhodes said, her eyes gentle and her tone full of the joy of their reunion.

Chelsea Bell gently shook her head, her tone casual and nonchalant. "Don’t even mention it. Back then, my family’s fortunes declined and our company went bankrupt. My father, at his wit’s end, entrusted me to his best friend. Later, his friend’s son and I fell for each other, so we naturally got married. I always wanted to contact you, but I lost your information. I never expected to run into you by chance at the jewelry store yesterday. For a moment, I thought I had the wrong person."

"With something so major happening, why didn’t you ever come to me for help?" Renee Rhodes asked, her heart aching for her friend.

"The company went bankrupt due to poor management; it was already beyond saving. Besides, I don’t know anything about business. Why would I go and add to your troubles or burden you?" Chelsea Bell gave a slight shrug, her expression casual. "I’ve never been very ambitious anyway. I’m happy just living a quiet, stable life. Being a carefree idler is actually quite liberating."

Renee Rhodes couldn’t help but chuckle. "Who talks about themselves like that? Seeing you so radiant, I imagine your life is going well. Does your husband treat you well?"

"He treats me wonderfully. If I weren’t happy, I wouldn’t have married him," Chelsea Bell replied with a smile, then asked, her gaze falling on Renee with concern, "What about you?"

"It’s very good," Renee Rhodes said with a gentle smile.

"A man as distinguished, outstanding, and capable as Jenson Whitman, who is also so devoted and faithful, is truly a rare find in this circle of the rich and powerful," Chelsea Bell said, filled with emotion. "Honestly, I never used to believe in true love. But after seeing his deep affection for you with my own eyes, I finally believe that a love that deep, one that’s etched into your very bones, really does exist in this world."

Renee Rhodes’s expression was blank. An inexplicable emptiness spread through her heart, as if a crucial piece of her was missing, leaving her utterly lost.

Chelsea Bell was speaking with great enthusiasm when she noticed Renee’s blank, confused, and completely unfamiliar expression. She suddenly came to her senses and realized she had misspoken.

She quickly composed herself and tapped her lips in annoyance.

"I forgot that you had an accident back then, suffered a severe head injury, and completely forgot your past. But if you’ve forgotten, then let it be forgotten. The past isn’t that important anyway. What matters is that you and your husband are deeply in love and living happily now."

Renee Rhodes forced a smile. She had some missing memories that she had never been able to recall.

Chelsea Bell took a sip of tea and said regretfully, "It’s just such a shame. If you hadn’t had that accident, you would have had children of your own by now."

"What do you mean?" Renee Rhodes looked up at her sharply.

"When your accident happened, you were two months pregnant. If it weren’t for that accident, your child would be in their twenties by now."

’With an accident like that, how could the child have possibly been saved?’

Renee Rhodes was stunned. She gently placed a hand on her lower abdomen. ’So I had a child once.’

Seeing her dazed expression, Chelsea Bell said softly, "Don’t dwell on it. It all happened so many years ago."

Just then, the opera began, and their attention was drawn to the stage.

But Renee Rhodes was truly preoccupied. She’d had a child, and Lance had never told her.

Partway through, she went to the restroom. Lost in thought, she unexpectedly bumped right into someone.

She staggered, nearly losing her balance, but the man quickly reached out to steady her, reminding her in a low voice,

"Careful!"
