My Cat Turned Beastman Won't Stop Kissing My Neck
Chapter 89: One Piece is Better Than None
"Either way, getting even a piece of it is a win," Chi Ye said, rubbing his hands together, his expression full of excitement.
Ling Xuan facepalmed from the side. ’Where does he get this confidence?’ she thought. ’Does he really think he can just take that piece?’
The spot Li Jiu found was inside the wall. Were they really going to smash the wall and take it with them?
Just as she was thinking this, the administrator finally arrived, followed by four guides.
These four guides were different from the ones Wen Qian and the others had seen before. Each one wore a pure black metal mask.
The masks had richly textured reliefs on them. Wen Qian couldn’t help but take a closer look, only then discovering that the design on each relief was different.
Spring, summer, autumn, winter—they were designed according to the seasons.
Winter jasmine and an unfamiliar bird; lotus blossoms and seed pods by a long pavilion; scattered red maple leaves with a snake; and frosty rime with falling snow above a frozen river.
Wen Qian couldn’t help but sigh internally. ’The people behind this are sinister, but they really do nail the details.’
"It’s you..." The administrator recognized Wen Qian instantly. He narrowed his eyes slightly, and after a moment’s thought connecting it to the earlier incident, he had his answer.
’Something to discuss? She was clearly just there to cause trouble!’
Seeing the man staring at Wen Qian, Gu Mian subtly moved in front of her. She said nothing, but her intimidating presence was palpable.
The man’s expression reined in slightly. He then snorted softly and shifted his gaze to Chi Heng. "Victor, come with me."
Chi Heng was escorted from the lounge. Only then did Li Jiu’s small head pop out from Wen Qian’s arms.
The group followed the guide into a deep, dark passage.
The passage was dimly lit. The administrator spoke some sort of code word, and the oil lamps on both sides of the wall suddenly flared to life.
The wicks glowed with an orange-yellow light, surrounded by silvery-white specks. Wen Qian couldn’t help but stare, only to have her cheek pinched by Yin Zhi.
His brow furrowed, and his voice was a bit heavy. "Don’t look."
The wicks were made from the tails of Elves from the Beast World and had a hallucinogenic effect. As long as the Elves whose tails were severed were kept alive, the lights could burn indefinitely.
At the same time, the expressions on the others’ faces turned grim.
They should have realized it sooner. There was no way Beastmen were the only ones who had fallen to Blue Star. As time went on, any creature from the Beast World could potentially appear on Blue Star.
Fifty-six Elf-tail lamps lit the path to the highest seat in the Beast Fighting Arena.
Next was another long, spiral staircase, its walls covered in dried bloodstains.
The stains were left here intentionally, a deliberate reminder to every Beastman who passed of the setbacks and hardships they had once endured.
Chi Heng glanced at it once before looking away. Wen Qian and the others hadn’t gone up the spiral staircase; they were waiting for him below.
He stood at the highest point.
The man’s gaze swept over the crowd before landing steadily on Wen Qian. Seeing her finger pointing toward the northern wall of the Beast Fighting Arena, he immediately understood and nodded.
He hadn’t heard a single word the administrator had said before. It wasn’t until a guide pulled back a red silk cloth behind them that he snapped back to reality.
"You can take all the winnings, or you can choose one item you like from within the Beast Fighting Arena to take with you." The administrator smiled and nodded at him, taking a small step back to reveal the dazzling treasures behind him.
"Anything at all from within the Beast Fighting Arena?" Chi Heng’s gaze didn’t linger on the items; instead, he turned his attention back to the administrator.
The man maintained his polite smile. "Of course. However, you won’t find anything more valuable than these."
Beneath the silk cloth were mostly antiques and jewelry, any one of which was priceless.
It was precisely because these items were so precious that the road to victory was incredibly difficult. To date, besides Chi Heng, only five others had ever reached the highest seat.
"I’ll take that, then." Chi Heng’s gaze fell steadily in the direction Wen Qian had just pointed, his voice firm.
The guide didn’t react at first, then asked tentatively in a low voice, "Are you talking about the lamp?"
"No. I want this wall." The corner of Chi Heng’s lips curved into a smirk.
The crowd erupted once more, with everyone speculating whether the man on the stage had gotten his brains scrambled in the fight.
The wall was big, but that was all it had going for it... Any single treasure on that stage could buy who knows how many walls.
Could it be that he had a grudge against the arena’s owner and was deliberately taking a wall to spite him?
That would be too high a price to pay...
Ten beast fights, ten life-or-death battles, all just to make a point?
That’s impossible!
While the crowd below buzzed with speculation, the administrator on the stage was also in utter disbelief.
He confirmed it several times, and seeing that Chi Heng was not joking, he finally went to ask his superiors for instructions.
Wen Qian had long since spotted the man watching the show from the shadows. He was concealed on a high platform in a corner, his cane planted firmly on the ground. His face, hidden in the darkness, betrayed no emotion.
This was the man who had set the trap for Chi Heng. It was just a shame that he’d been thoroughly outplayed; in the end, things hadn’t gone his way.
The guide bowed respectfully, but there was no need for him to relay the message; the man could hear Chi Heng’s words clearly. He tapped his fingers lightly on his knee a few times, then said something to the guide, who then retreated respectfully.
A moment later, a look of resignation appeared on the administrator’s face. "You can, but you’ll have to dismantle the wall yourself, and you’ll have to figure out transportation on your own."
He had added that last part himself. He had already botched the matter of the beast fights; he didn’t dare cause any more trouble for his boss.
A smile played on Chi Heng’s lips. "Fine by me."
Yin Zhi’s people had been waiting outside for a while. They sent for tools and, under the cover of darkness, actually started smashing the wall.
This wall wasn’t a load-bearing wall, just a solid partition wall within the Beast Fighting Arena.
Before they started, Chi Ye thoughtfully cleared the crowd. Only then did he confidently swing a sledgehammer and strike the wall hard...
Along the way, a few kind-hearted Beastmen even came to help. It wasn’t clear if they had been oppressed by the Beast Fighting Arena before, but their eyes were filled with relish as they smashed the wall.
And so, the several-meter-high wall was reduced to rubble in no time. The management staff glanced timidly at the man with the cane in the distance, but ultimately dared not say a word.
’He could never figure out the boss’s temper. He had no idea what the boss was thinking, letting these people run wild like this.’
’If he gets really angry, I hope he doesn’t take it out on me.’
The man was clearly also very curious why Wen Qian’s group was so fixated on a wall, and he remained seated, watching them. His aura was steady; it seemed he had no intention of leaving early.
But the group below was truly strange. All they did was smash the wall, and this made the man a little worried...
He wasn’t afraid that there was nothing in the wall; he was afraid that they would find what was inside and hide it before he could see it.
With this thought, the man gestured to the red-clothed woman beside him...
’Given the personality of the one from the Yi Snake Clan, they would never go along with this nonsense... so there must be something very important inside this wall.’
