My Cat Turned Beastman Won't Stop Kissing My Neck
Chapter 59: He Truly Cares
"No, it’s not me..." The man hurriedly backed away, but fearing he might hurt her, he simply took the kicks.
Wen Qian only calmed down a little when a crowd started to gather. Just as she was about to start a verbal tirade, her gaze shifted and she suddenly noticed another man curled up on the ground...
Blinking hard, Wen Qian finally realized that the person who had tried to hurt her was wearing a black trench coat, not the... leather jacket Chi Heng had on.
And his build... Chi Heng was a full head taller than that other man.
’Wait, what did he just say?’
’He said... it wasn’t him?’
"You..." Wen Qian looked from the man in the trench coat on the ground to Chi Heng, momentarily at a loss for words.
Chi Heng didn’t dwell on being mistaken for the attacker. Instead, he grabbed her hand seriously. "Let’s get out of here first."
Wen Qian hadn’t misheard. There had indeed been more than one person following her just now, and among them... Chi Heng hadn’t been one.
By now, a concerned onlooker had already called the police, and someone brave had kicked the short dagger that the trench coat man had dropped far away.
Wen Qian was still hesitating, but when she noticed two men in the crowd wearing clothes similar to the one on the ground, she immediately shook off Chi Heng’s hand and bolted across the road.
The man in the black trench coat was dangerous, to be sure, but Chi Heng was no saint either.
Clearly, Wen Qian had some trust in him, but not much...
After kicking to the ground the two men who tried to approach, Chi Heng took off after Wen Qian again.
The man and woman, panting for breath, ducked into an alley. Wen Qian scanned her surroundings, her eyes still sharp with vigilance.
Only after confirming they had completely shaken off their pursuers did Wen Qian let out a long breath. She was clearly exhausted, slumping down onto a step and dropping her head in fatigue.
Wen Qian tried to relax, rubbing her throbbing temples. She didn’t give the man standing across from her a single proper look.
After a moment, Wen Qian couldn’t help but sneak a glance at the man, and then immediately cursed Chi Heng up and down in her head.
’This guy can really run,’ she thought. ’That must have been several kilometers... and he’s not even breathing hard.’
"Don’t tell me you were just passing by." Having finally calmed down, Wen Qian lifted her almond-shaped eyes to glare at him.
This area was densely populated; bumping into someone by chance was like finding a needle in a haystack. She refused to believe their meeting was such a coincidence.
His gaze was a little shifty. The man looked down, hesitating for a long moment before speaking. "I’ve been following you."
Chi Heng had been following Wen Qian since yesterday. It’s just that the Wolf Clan has always been vigilant, with extremely strong counter-surveillance instincts, so he’d managed to remain undetected by her.
Hearing him say that, Wen Qian snorted, her expression clearly saying, ’I knew it.’
"But I was trying to protect you," Chi Heng added anxiously when he saw a flash of annoyance in her eyes. He had discovered many strange Beastmen lying in ambush around Wen Qian’s apartment complex, and some had even followed her to school.
"You, protect me?" Wen Qian was stunned by his words, and was about to ask where he got his confidence from. Then she suddenly remembered that he had indeed helped her just now, so she swallowed the harsh words with a cold face. "Well then, thank you so much."
’Since when was he this kind?’
’Didn’t he look like he wouldn’t rest until he killed me before...?’
"Qianqian, what happened before was a misunderstanding. I would never hurt you..."
Just as he was about to explain everything to Wen Qian, Chi Heng’s ears twitched. The gentle look on his face vanished. He shifted slightly, shielding Wen Qian behind him.
At almost the same instant, a figure flashed across the eaves of the roof... and lunged straight for Wen Qian.
Chi Heng’s movements were incredibly swift. Just as the attacker was about to reach her, he slammed him to the ground, and the two began to grapple.
The two figures blurred in rapid motion, and the sickening sound of muscle hitting muscle made Wen Qian’s scalp tingle. She got up to run, but had barely taken a step when... a sudden pain shot through her neck.
"Don’t hurt her!" A chill shot through Chi Heng’s heart. He stopped fighting and allowed the man in black to pin him to the ground.
"You’re from the Wolf Clan." The man holding Wen Qian hostage looked at Chi Heng with contempt, though he didn’t loosen his grip. His sharp nails slowly extended, gradually breaking the delicate skin on the girl’s neck.
Chi Heng said nothing, his eyes locked on the man behind Wen Qian. His voice was unsteady. "Who sent you?"
"None of your business." The man watched Chi Heng warily. Although he had been ordered to kill this human female, he wasn’t confident he could escape unscathed now that he was facing a member of the Wolf Clan.
"Wait, why are you trying to kill me...?" Wen Qian managed to get the words out, her head tilted back as she tried to distract him with conversation.
Having successfully drawn the gazes of both men to her face, Wen Qian discreetly reached for her pocket.
"You offended our Young Master," the man said, extremely vigilant. Then, he tightened his grip. "Don’t move!"
"Yin... Yin Zhi...?" Wen Qian only knew of one Young Master.
"Is the Young Master’s name something you’re worthy of uttering?" The man’s expression changed, clearly enraged. Just as he was about to lash out, he saw his companion suddenly clutch his own neck in pain. The next second, the tall man crumpled to the ground and transformed into a cat...
Looking back at Chi Heng, his chiseled face was cold and impassive. He was holding a Swiss Army knife, still stained with the blood of the man in black.
Fear and anger warred in the eyes of the man holding Wen Qian. He clenched his jaw, but in the next second, he let out a muffled grunt.
A knife had appeared in the girl’s hand at some point, and now it was plunged deep into the man’s thigh.
The strength in his hands instantly slackened. As Chi Heng moved in, the man was kicked brutally to the ground. Chi Heng pulled Wen Qian to his side with one arm, ignoring her struggles. He gripped her chin firmly and began examining her injuries himself.
"Qianqian, are you okay?" The anxiety in his eyes didn’t seem feigned.
"I’m fine, I’m fine, just don’t touch me..." Wen Qian shrank back, still very wary of Chi Heng.
The injured man also transformed into a cat.
Though unwilling to accept defeat, he still limped away.
He never would have thought that someone from the Wolf Clan would protect a human female, much less that she would be carrying a weapon.
Gently wiping away the beads of blood from her neck, Chi Heng seemed to think of something and asked, "Qianqian, why are you carrying a knife?"
Picking up the knife from the ground, the girl looked away guiltily. "I have a strong sense of self-preservation."
’She couldn’t exactly say she learned it from him, could she?’
’The last time, before she passed out, she saw him about to stab her with a knife. After she got back, she went and got one for herself.’
’Add to that the killing intent he’d radiated when they met at the bar later... Wen Qian was afraid Chi Heng would come looking for trouble again, so she started carrying it for self-defense.’
’After all, sitting back and waiting for death wasn’t her style...’
"It’s dangerous here. Let’s go." Seeming to sense something, Chi Heng didn’t press the issue.
