Chapter 180: What Kind of Dark Universe Is This? Someone Dies Right at the Start?
[The person who came was none other than the Comedian.]
[Many years had passed. The Watchmen organization already existed in name only, and people once again no longer welcomed these vigilantes.]
[And so, he retired.]
[At this moment, wearing a robe that looked extremely expensive, he sat down heavily on the sofa and raised the television remote.]
[Click. "A nuclear test has appeared in the Bering Strait south of Alaska!"]
[Click. "President Nixon issues a warning to the Soviet Union!"]
[Click. "Scientists have moved the Doomsday Clock, which foretells nuclear war, to five minutes before midnight!"]
[Click. "Do you think Doctor Manhattan can really stop all this?" "In my view, the Soviets believe he's the threat."]
At the top of Stark Tower.
Tony could understand the earlier words.
It was nothing more than something similar to the Cold War mixed with the Cuban Missile Crisis.
But the words after that were somewhat incomprehensible to him.
One person could make the entire Soviet Union feel threatened?
No matter how one looked at it, this seemed rather absurd. That blue-skinned man was not Superman!
He shook his head and dispelled this unrealistic thought.
[Listening to the television endlessly repeating the same Cold War topics over and over, the Comedian sped up his channel changing.]
[Finally, after pressing more than a dozen times, he found a late-night erotic channel, so he put down the remote in satisfaction and leaned back.]
[But at this moment, from the corner of his eye, he saw a shadow appear in the crack of the door not far to his left.]
[In the next moment, a black shadow broke through the door and entered!]
[The Comedian stood up from the sofa. Looking at the murderous intruder, there was not the slightest surprise on his face.]
["I suppose the time comes for all of us."]
[His words carried some heaviness and some relief, as if he intended to give up resisting!]
[But in the very next instant, he threw the wine glass in his hand at the black shadow, then rolled toward the handgun on the coffee table!]
[The Comedian succeeded. He successfully grabbed that gun!]
[But when he turned around to shoot, the black shadow had already arrived in front of him and seized his wrist!]
[Unsurprisingly, the bullet went wide!]
[The black shadow was agile and completely suppressed the Comedian!]
[In only a few exchanges, he beat this old man until his face was covered in blood and he no longer had the ability to fight back.]
["It's a joke. It's all a joke."]
["Mother, forgive me."]
[These were the Comedian's final words. After saying this inexplicable sentence, he was thrown by the black shadow from a building more than twenty stories high.]
Inside the Batcave, Bruce licked his lips.
He smelled a long-lost and familiar scent of conspiracy, and it was clearly far more advanced than the Riddler's.
This made him somewhat excited.
Unfortunately, right now, he could only be a spectator.
Inside the room, Khonshu seemed to have merged with the shadows.
Marc, who had unknowingly returned to himself, knew nothing about this. He merely watched the screen and could not help shrinking his neck.
He had woken up to find that the previous video had inexplicably ended, and now this new one was even more exciting.
The title of the video was clearly Watchmen, yet in less than five minutes, one of them had already died.
What kind of dark universe was this!?
[The image sank into blackness, and a somewhat hoarse, somewhat cold voice-over rang out at this moment.]
[Rorschach's Journal, October 12, 1985.]
["Dog carcass in alley this morning. Tire tread on burst stomach."]
["This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are like endless gutters, and blood flows through them."]
["Once the filth crusts over, all the vermin will drown and die."]
["The accumulated filth of sex and murder will rise up past their waists, and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, 'Save us!'"]
["And I will whisper, 'No.'"]
[As the voice fell, a man wearing a mask with constantly shifting patterns abruptly appeared.]
Outside the screen, countless viewers' breathing immediately stopped.
This man's eyes were clearly covered, yet his gaze seemed like an invisible weight pressing down on them.
And that inkblot mask!
It was simply like a living thing from Hell, making people feel instinctive fear.
Gotham.
Joker narrowed his eyes slightly.
There was a smell on the other party that felt very familiar to him.
That was... Batman.
The corners of his scarlet mouth gradually curled into an exaggerated arc.
In certain ways, this man actually possessed the same qualities as little Bats.
This was becoming more and more interesting.
[Rorschach stepped on the shattered glass and carefully observed the Comedian's room.]
[Very quickly, he discovered the other party's secret room. Aside from a photograph of the second Silk Spectre, everything inside consisted of various firearms and weapons.]
[Clearly, the other party had not truly retired.]
[This death was definitely not as simple as the home invasion robbery reported in the news.]
[Besides, what kind of criminal could kill a "hero" proficient in lethal combat?]
[At this moment, the police officer standing guard heard the noise and came over to check. Rorschach had no choice but to knock one of them unconscious, then quickly leave.]
Inside Nite Owl's airship, the second Silk Spectre, Laurie, increasingly felt that her guess was correct after seeing her own photograph in the Comedian's room.
The man who had nearly raped her mother was actually her father?
This made her somewhat collapse.
[The scene changed. Inside an auto-repair shop, the first and second Nite Owl were sitting together, drinking and talking happily.]
[At this moment, the two displayed completely opposite personalities.]
[The first Nite Owl missed the carefree days of the past very much, and his words were full of pride and passion.]
[The second Nite Owl was somewhat shy. Most of the time, he acted as a listener.]
[As they spoke, the first Nite Owl began complaining about the Keene Act from six years ago, which forced vigilantes to either retire or work for the government.]
[He felt wronged on behalf of the second Nite Owl. After all, the other party had been in the prime of his life and had barely enjoyed any glory.]
[At this moment, a wanted notice rang out on the television. It was Rorschach, wanted for knocking down a police officer.]
[Daniel, the second Nite Owl, who was about to leave, shook his head when he saw this.]
[Back then, everyone had either retired or secretly worked for the government.]
[Only Rorschach had still not given up his identity or the justice in his heart, and he still wandered through the darkness.]
[He felt that the only thing capable of stopping him was probably death.]
Inside a dim cave, the statues representing the Seven Deadly Sins looked as terrifying as living things.
But standing here was a withered old man.
He held an enormous staff in his hand, his eyes bright, flickering from time to time with six kinds of divine power.
He liked righteous people like this, people who carried ideals on their backs and had stubborn hearts.
Unfortunately, the other party was not in his world. Otherwise, perhaps he would also have been qualified to shout his name.
[The heavy rain continued without end. By the time Daniel returned home, it was already very late.]
[But in the next second, he revealed a vigilant expression!]
[The door lock had been picked!]
[Although the name Nite Owl had retired, his body had not!]
[Hearing noise inside, Daniel angrily pushed open the door, intending to teach this blind little thief a lesson.]
[But when he opened the door, he suddenly froze.]
[Inside was not a thief, but Rorschach, whose inkblot mask was constantly shifting.]
