Cecilia Vaughn noticed that the man looked slightly similar to Reginald Trent. Her heart sank, but before she could ask more questions, the makeup artist forcefully pulled her away.

"Miss Vaughn, please don’t delay. It’s not good to miss the auspicious time."

The female makeup artist, whom Old Mrs. Trent found from somewhere, looked petite and delicate, but had surprisingly strong hands, clearly someone who practiced martial arts.

Cecilia sighed internally. Was it really necessary to guard against someone like her who was already drugged?!

...

Cecilia was brought to an elegantly traditional room. Even the makeup tools, though comprehensive, were all made to resemble ancient ones.

Goosebumps arose on Cecilia’s skin even more.

—Although she dreamed of having a Chinese-style wedding with Adrian Law, that didn’t mean she wanted a ghost marriage!

Normally, Cecilia would have appreciated the beautiful utensils, but now she felt like a fish on a chopping board, awaiting her fate.

...

"Um... Miss Makeup Artist, can I ask who that man in the red wedding attire at the hall was?"

The makeup artist was applying foundation to Cecilia’s face. Upon hearing her question, she spoke coldly.

"You’re about to have a coffin laid over you, does it matter?"

Though Cecilia was anxious, she noticed this girl, despite her cold tone, was much more amiable than Old Mrs. Trent, who always wore a hostile expression. Cecilia felt relieved and took a chance to build rapport.

"Miss Makeup Artist, we bear no hatred towards each other. Of course, I won’t naively ask you to release me, as I don’t want to implicate innocent people."

"But as the saying goes, better to die understanding. Surely I have some right to know?"

...

The makeup artist indeed didn’t expect Cecilia to still be so polite and willing to seek answers despite her cold demeanor, and showed little fear of the impending ghost marriage.

"Miss Vaughn, you really have courage... even now you find time to care about others."

Cecilia gave a wry smile.

"I’m not being gossipy, just curious why there’s a man in obvious groom’s attire in the hall. He bears some resemblance to Mrs. Trent’s only son, but you know Reginald Trent passed away three years ago, so how could he appear there?"

"That’s Reginald Trent’s cousin, Tiberius Trent..."

The makeup artist absent-mindedly replied while picking up an eyebrow pencil to delicately shape Cecilia’s brows.

Because the Sage giving Old Mrs. Trent ridiculous advice said Cecilia had to wear an ancient-style plum blossom makeup, since it was for a ghost marriage, the overall look shouldn’t be joyous, but rather carry a sense of sorrow and grievance.

...

The makeup artist felt an urge to curse at these absurd requests.

What constitutes a sorrowful makeup?

And for a wedding no less?

Is this a joke?

Cecilia didn’t know what the artist was thinking, but seeing the four-cornered floral pattern painted on her forehead, reminiscent of ancient palace dramas, it looked pretty, yet the overall atmosphere seemed so somber.

Cecilia naturally didn’t care about the makeup artist’s skill; she was thrilled to learn about Tiberius Trent’s true identity from her quick response.

"Miss Makeup Artist, does Old Mrs. Trent think her son is gone, but still needs a groom for the wedding, so lets his cousin replace him?"

This cross-eyed plan, leave it to Old Mrs. Trent to come up with.

...

Isn’t this self-deception?!

Even if Tiberius shares some blood relation and slight resemblance to Reginald, substituting him for a wedding is just too bizarre?!

Just as Cecilia was internally ranting, the makeup artist gave her a casual glance.

"I suggest, instead of pondering this mess, think about what will happen after the wedding ceremony when you get nailed into a coffin."

"..."

Uh...

Cecilia was rendered speechless.

She was agitated and restless, like an ant on a hot pan but unwilling to show a hint of it before outsiders.

Cecilia knew that arousing some sympathy could be useful.

Otherwise, the makeup artist wouldn’t be willing to converse with her.

"Miss Makeup Artist, so after the wedding ceremony, I’m going to be directly sent to..."

Uh, she couldn’t bring herself to say "coffin".

Having just tasted freedom outside prison not long ago, was she going to be thrown into the depths of hell already?!

This was too frightening.

...

"That’s not quite the case."

The makeup artist’s hands moved swiftly, almost finishing Cecilia’s facial makeup, only the lipstick remained.

She hadn’t decided on a color yet.

Damn, why torture herself so?!

She regretted taking the money; she’d dealt with lives before, like Cecilia thought, she was a practitioner, used to handling shady tasks for Old Mrs. Trent, who would imagine she’d be doing makeup for a ghost wedding this time.

If the makeup wasn’t done right, and that so-called Sage criticized it, she’d be in big trouble.

...

The more she painted, the more frustrated she became, and accidentally drew a long red streak across Cecilia’s perfect profile.

"Damn it... argh! Can it be simpler..."

The makeup artist tossed the lipstick aside, feeling even more irritable, seeing Cecilia who looked at her calmly, she decided to tell Cecilia most of what she wanted to know.

"Don’t worry, they won’t be that inhumane. According to that Sage, Tiberius Trent will wear a mask when marrying you, it’s just for show."

"After the ceremony, you’ll be locked in the bridal chamber for an hour, then the coffin ceremony begins."

"..."

Great, an additional hour.

Hearing that unit, she wondered if it was really two hours?!

Otherwise, why are they holding an ancient-style wedding?

Cecilia cautiously lifted her head.

"Well... are you not very good with lipstick? How about I do it myself?"

"Can you?"

The makeup artist looked at Cecilia skeptically, really tired of it, even didn’t want to finish the task.

Just as the makeup artist hesitated whether to let Cecilia handle it, sudden rapid footsteps sounded from outside the door.

"Blossom, are you guys ready?! The Sage is here! Get that woman into the bride’s attire quickly!"
