Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1601 - 1588: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Lasts Eternity: The Unfamiliar Guests
Violet Zimmerman was sound asleep, oblivious to Joseph Lancaster’s lips pressing gently against her lower abdomen. She leaned against the bed, sitting semi-upright, her head tilted toward the direction of the door, with her arms naturally resting beside her.
Joseph Lancaster kissed carefully, his thin lips just touching the small protrusion on her belly. As soon as his lips touched it, the tiny mound disappeared, only to reappear momentarily in another spot.
Watching the little mound shift positions continually, Joseph Lancaster unconsciously smiled, his phoenix-like eyes filled with unprecedented emotions—the gentle and kind warmth of parents watching over their children.
Perhaps weary from crouching, Joseph Lancaster switched to a kneeling position, his warm lips once again landing on Violet Zimmerman’s belly. Cautiously, almost reverently, he gently moved his lips, leaving soft kisses.
What kind of emotion was it? No one could comprehend. Beneath his lips lay his future offspring, and in less than two months, he would become a father. How miraculous.
The ticklish sensation on her belly disturbed Violet Zimmerman’s sweet dream. She frowned with displeasure, brushed her hand over the spot, turned her head inward, and continued to sleep.
Joseph Lancaster propped himself up and stood, then lay down beside Violet Zimmerman, turning his body sideways with one hand resting on her prominently swollen belly.
The corridor lights were turned off, and the dim light mirrored Daxton Lancaster’s face at that moment.
Standing like a statue outside the room door, he remained motionless for a long time...
Managing the household since he was fifteen, Daxton Lancaster’s capability and shrewdness were unmatched by ordinary people.
Joseph Lancaster’s behavior clearly demonstrated his feelings for Violet Zimmerman, feelings not typically held by a younger brother-in-law.
Daxton Lancaster observed everything, outwardly showing no reaction, but secretly making arrangements.
On the weekend, Joseph Lancaster was still working overtime at the company— a man new to the workforce, more diligent than anyone else.
At three in the afternoon, the family’s chauffeur picked him up and drove him directly to the old master’s residence.
The old master’s residence was designed like an apartment; upon entering the courtyard, the first-level banquet hall was where the Lancaster Family dined together. The old master lived in a small villa behind the banquet hall, a two-story building with an over 100-square-meter hall downstairs.
Joseph Lancaster hurriedly walked inside; now a company manager, he was dressed no longer in school attire but in a pure white shirt and gray trousers.
He wore polished leather shoes, shined to perfection, and his hair was styled with hair gel, neatly combed back.
"Grandfather, what happy occasion is it to have the driver fetch me so early?"
Joseph Lancaster strode into the hall, where the lively chatter abruptly ended.
Spotting a few unfamiliar guests, Joseph Lancaster instinctively stopped, and the smile on his lips froze.
Among them was someone he recognized—his university classmate, Emily Zimmerman.
At that moment, all eyes in the hall focused on him, especially the eyes of the three "unfamiliar" guests.
Emily Zimmerman was seated between a couple, smiling warmly at Joseph Lancaster.
"Joseph is back."
Daxton Lancaster stood up and approached him.
Lorelei Howard also spoke with a smile.
"This child is already working, yet still feels shy. Come on in, haven’t you noticed we have guests?"
Father Bodhi Lancaster spoke sternly.
"Come on in; Uncle Zhang and his family have been waiting for quite a while."
Daxton Lancaster had already reached his side, placing a hand on Joseph Lancaster’s shoulder, smiling as he said, "How come you don’t even greet your old classmate? Was it too sudden, caught you by surprise?"
