Chapter 1551 - 1543: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Eternity Remains

Seeing Violet Zimmerman open the door, Daxton Lancaster turned his head, the cigarette in his fingers still swirling with smoke, with an unreadable expression as he spoke.

"Did it work?"

Violet Zimmerman nodded with a soft "hmm" while holding the door frame, paused briefly, and slowly walked towards the large bed.

Instinctively, Daxton Lancaster’s gaze landed on Violet Zimmerman’s legs that couldn’t close. He brought the cigarette to his lips, took a slow drag, and his phoenix-like eyes narrowed.

Upon reaching the bed, Violet Zimmerman threw off the coat draped over her shoulders and lay down on the bed, without even removing her clothes underneath, pulling the quilt tightly around herself.

Daxton Lancaster took a few more drags on his cigarette and suddenly pressed the half-smoked butt into the ashtray, walking over with large strides.

Hearing the footsteps, Violet Zimmerman didn’t turn, curling up tightly under the covers.

Daxton Lancaster stood by the bed, looking at Violet Zimmerman’s back, his brows furrowing slightly before he lifted the quilt and lay down.

In the same position as Violet Zimmerman, he drew her close; in the past, Violet’s heart would flutter when held by Daxton Lancaster, but now, her body was stiff.

As if oblivious to Violet’s abnormality, Daxton Lancaster’s hand moved to her lower abdomen, rubbing gently, his face holding a slight tension, his phoenix eyes hinting at something, while thinking secretly that one time might not be enough; one should do this more often, as increased frequency raises the odds.

"Continue tomorrow night."

Daxton Lancaster’s voice devoid of warmth echoed behind her head, causing Violet Zimmerman to unconsciously hug her shoulders tighter.

Perhaps it was too cold outside, but right now she was chilled to the point of no warmth, the cold spreading rapidly from within, that even being pressed against Daxton Lancaster’s chest couldn’t kindle a hint of warmth.

The next morning, when Daxton Lancaster got up, Violet Zimmerman was still asleep. He didn’t wake her, and after dressing and freshening up, he left the room.

Almost simultaneously as the door closed, Violet Zimmerman slowly opened her eyes, staring forward, her gaze deadlike and silent.

Daxton Lancaster went to the old man’s place to eat. Upon arrival, he specifically instructed the cook to steam egg custard for his wife.

At six-thirty in the morning, the Lancaster Family gathered for breakfast, with all family members seated around two tables, except for Violet Zimmerman and Joseph Lancaster.

In about ten minutes, the cook emerged from the back. "Family Head, the egg custard is ready."

"Alright, take it to Madam," Daxton Lancaster instructed softly. "It’s cold outside, wrap it in several layers of towels."

"Yes, Family Head," the cook responded respectfully and returned to the kitchen.

"My Victoria is over four months pregnant and doesn’t get this kind of treatment. Daxton, isn’t your favoritism towards your wife too obvious?"

Across the table, Eva Hayes spoke with a sarcastic tone. The old man lifted his eyes to glance over but ignored her.

Lorelei Howard, sitting next to her, also glared displeased, though she usually had opinions about Violet, ultimately, behind closed doors, they’re one family, and a sister-in-law criticizing the daughter-in-law wouldn’t sit well with a mother-in-law.

At the other table, the second branch family didn’t respond much, accustomed to their mother’s sarcasm.

Only Aurora Lancaster muttered discontentedly, "Mind your own business!" Then she continued eating.

Daxton Lancaster paused his eating, lifted his gaze to Eva Hayes, his lip curled slightly in coldness.

"What? Do I, as the dignified Head of Lancaster Family, need to notify you in advance when caring for my wife?"

"You!" Eva Hayes was rendered speechless.

Seeing Daxton Lancaster’s anger, Atlas Lancaster scolded his wife displeased, "Eat! Even a dry meal can’t shut your mouth!"
