Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1539 - 1531: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Is Everlasting Love: Rebuked by Her Mother-in-law
Joseph Lancaster walked over and took the lunchbox from his mother’s hand. Lorelei Howard also came to the front of the bed, glaring at her daughter-in-law, who dared not raise her head, her face livid.
"Daxton is young and doesn’t know better, and you, as the sister-in-law, don’t know to watch out a bit. Doing something like this in public! Luckily, I was the one who saw it today. If outsiders saw it, what would they think? Even if you don’t care about your reputation, at least consider our Daxton!"
Violet Zimmerman kept her head down and dared not speak. After Joseph Lancaster placed the lunchbox down, he walked over and tugged at his mother’s sleeve.
"Mom, what are you talking nonsense for? I’m just tired and wanted to lie down for a while. Why are you scolding Sis-in-law!"
"Don’t pull me!" Lorelei Howard suddenly shouted, her voice rising sharply, scaring Violet Zimmerman into a shiver.
Lorelei Howard, displeased, turned towards her son, Joseph Lancaster, and asked in raised voice.
"You’re tired? You’re tired, and isn’t there an empty bed here? Why squeeze onto your sister-in-law’s hospital bed?"
"I just wanted to listen to music," Joseph Lancaster muttered defiantly.
Lorelei Howard knew there wasn’t anything improper between the two, so after scolding her son, she turned towards Violet Zimmerman, "I’ll ask the doctor later if we can discharge you. If not, we’ll hire a nurse to give you injections at home. We have enough servants, and Joseph doesn’t need to come over and take care of you!"
Lorelei Howard glared at Violet Zimmerman and turned to walk out.
On the hospital bed, Violet Zimmerman had a small piece of apple left between her fingers, her head down, lips pressed tightly together.
"Sis-in-law, don’t take it to heart. Mom is just temperamental, always making a fuss over nothing."
Joseph Lancaster walked over and lightly tugged Violet Zimmerman’s sleeve. As if electrocuted, Violet suddenly pulled away and stared at Joseph Lancaster blankly, seemingly forgetting to react.
Due to her hasty movement, the apple pinched in her fingers fell onto her clothes. Joseph Lancaster smiled helplessly, picked up the piece of apple, popped it into his mouth, and then grabbed the towel and turned to leave the room.
Leaning on the hospital bed, Violet Zimmerman bit her finger, staring blankly ahead, lost in thought.
Joseph Lancaster went to wet the towel, wanting to help Violet Zimmerman clean her hands before eating dinner.
By the time the young man returned, Lorelei Howard was already in the ward, with a nurse helping Violet Zimmerman with her IV drip.
With his mother and the nurse present, Joseph Lancaster had no choice but to hang the wet towel on the bed railing, as assisting his sister-in-law with cleaning her hands in front of his mother might lead to another scolding.
The young man sat on another hospital bed, waiting for the nurse to finish hanging the IV and leave. Lorelei Howard stood in front of the bed, her expression already unpleasant.
"I just went to ask, and the doctor said recovering at home is fine too. He’s off work now, so tomorrow I’ll come over to handle the discharge procedures for you!"
"Okay." Violet Zimmerman replied, her head down, after which Lorelei Howard turned to her son.
"Joseph, stay at the hospital a little longer to look after things. When you go home, I’ll send a servant over!"
"Alright, whatever you say." Joseph Lancaster intertwined his fingers in boredom, with his long, slender fingers interlacing in a seemingly indifferent manner.
Unhappily glaring at her son, Lorelei Howard picked up an empty net bag, "I’ll head home first, the driver is still waiting downstairs."
"Mom, take your time."
Violet Zimmerman politely saw her out, without a response from Lorelei, who opened the ward door and walked out in displeasure.
After his mother left, Joseph Lancaster jumped off the bed and grabbed the damp towel, gently grasped Violet Zimmerman’s hand where the IV needle was inserted, and while gently wiping it, he said.
"Sis-in-law, you don’t need to be scared. Mom is just a paper tiger, you’re the grandmother of the Lancaster family. She wouldn’t dare to do anything to you, there’s Big Brother and Grandpa."
