Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1531 - 1523: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Is Everlasting Love: Have Joseph Come Take Care of Me
It was Daxton Lancaster who took her to the hospital, without notifying any other members of the Lancaster Family.
The parents received the news the next day. Although dissatisfied with their daughter-in-law, they still had to go through the motions. At noon, the mother-in-law, Lorelei Howard, came to the hospital to visit.
Lorelei Howard carried two nylon bags filled with oranges and apples, and as soon as she sat down, she began to reproach displeasedly.
"Violet, how could you be so careless, tripping over in your own home? You’re lucky you married into the Lancaster Family and don’t have to work in a factory. If you were working outside, who knows what you’d do to yourself!"
Violet Zimmerman lowered her eyelids without speaking, the bitterness in her heart known only to her.
Her forehead was wrapped in gauze; her arm was slung in front of her chest, and the fingers of her right hand unconsciously picked at the sheets beneath her.
Violet Zimmerman’s lack of response made Lorelei Howard even more displeased. She glared at her unhappily and turned to vent her anger at her son, Daxton Lancaster.
"Daxton, now that Violet’s been hospitalized, find time for both of you to get checked, see what’s actually wrong!"
"Mom, please don’t make things worse! Violet is injured now!"
Daxton Lancaster felt helpless, very frustrated inside. He just wanted to give her some pressure but ended up being counterproductive. Considering Violet Zimmerman’s current situation, the plan probably had to be postponed.
"I’m making things worse?" Lorelei Howard suddenly stood up from the hospital bed, standing opposite her son, furiously scolding.
"Tell me, what’s good about this woman besides having a pretty face? She can’t lift or carry anything, which I accept! But she’s been married into our Lancaster Family for several months now and there’s still no sign of anything! Even if we bought a chicken to lay eggs, it would have settled in by now!"
In her fury, Lorelei Howard said whatever unpleasant things she could think of, while Violet Zimmerman continued looking down and picking at the sheets, still without any response.
Daxton Lancaster instinctively glanced at her, then guided his mother towards the door of the hospital room.
"Mom, you should go back first. I can handle my own affairs."
Lorelei Howard was forcibly led out of the hospital room by her son Daxton Lancaster. After pushing his mother out, Daxton closed the door and locked it.
Lorelei Howard pushed the door but couldn’t open it, snorted in anger, and turned around to leave.
Daxton Lancaster walked back and stood in front of the hospital bed, sighed, and said, "Thank you."
Violet Zimmerman continued to pick at the sheets; at this moment, she was already dead inside.
Daxton Lancaster added, "Thank you for not telling my mother."
Violet Zimmerman’s movements paused briefly; the lashes she had lowered trembled, and she struggled to whisper a few words.
"We are husband and wife."
A husband and wife should support each other.
It seemed as if something was stuck in Daxton Lancaster’s throat. He tightened his fist, then sat down beside the hospital bed. When he placed his long fingers on Violet Zimmerman’s shoulder and pulled her towards him, Violet’s body noticeably froze.
With a sigh, Daxton Lancaster said, "Violet, I know, what I’m doing is very selfish, but I’m also out of options. I can withstand not being the Family Head, and I can stand being driven out of the ancestral home by Uncle, but my parents cannot bear it. They’ve lived in the ancestral home for most of their lives, and no matter where they move, the ancestral home is their real home!"
Violet Zimmerman turned her head. In her line of sight, Daxton Lancaster’s eyes seemed distant as he stared ahead, his brows furrowed with unresolved melancholy.
Violet understood these reasons. Although she hadn’t spent much time with Uncle’s family, she could see that none of them were kind-hearted.
Aunt Eva Hayes was a classic unreasonable shrew, and Uncle was the same. Those two younger uncles were even worse. They hadn’t even greeted her.
Such relatives, if they ever gained power, would surely step all over Daxton Lancaster’s family.
Taking a deep breath, Violet Zimmerman trembled as she exhaled, "Let Joseph come to take care of me."
